AH! Stop! A mod just got angry at me for testing out posting images in the test forums for the act of posting images. I fear that my image link may also be subject but I cannot seem to edit my post to remove said link...

GreedyTop -> RE: For those owned by cats... (7/15/2009 10:31:54 PM)

links are usually ok... images are not :) (welcome to the forums :) )

How DARE you scoff at me! Now you made me spill the tuna that I was feeding my cat all over the keyboard whilst fanning her with the other hand. I hope you're pleased with yourself.

Harumph!

Just sharing the joy, man....

I have a second water bowl in my bedroom (of course) for the last little kitteh I adopted....the boys are still snotty to her and I can't figure out why.  It's not a fountain, but a self waterer......she used to dismantle it until I literally duct taped the damn thing together......now she can't get it off.  Well, until she figures out the tape anyway......so far, so good! The fountain is in the living room.....the boys love it, the water is cold, and because of the flow, it makes a great place to teach little furry mice how to swim.......NOT!!!!!

Yep, I have a self waterer too.  He puts his paw up the bowl into the jug and then knocks it over, and THEN disassembles.  So, duct tape or not, it's emptying on the floor.  Ugh.

My cat does not own me...my cat does not own me...my cat does not own me...

Regards the cats not liking still water, well still water tends not to be the best water. When I get a bowl of water for the cat, I run the tap (faucet) for a while to get the bubbly water coming out, therefore the oxygenated water, not the stuff that has been sitting in my pipes a while. Cats like oxygenated alive water, still water is dead water. You know the difference between what comes out of the tap first and what comes out after it has been running for a while, the cat does too.

Also, what's in the water, the chemicals the water companies put in, here, chlorine, I can smell it and taste it, so can the cat, so don't be surprised if the cat turns up it's nose.

What we all need is a babbling brook running through our house if we want to keep a cat happy.

Interesting though, the cat will drink water that has been used to water a plant, the water that passes through into the saucer beneath, maybe crappy water company water when  filtered through plant material and earth is better water, the cat knows and is happy to lap from that.

Ok, here's one for all you bone idle cat lovers to do when you just can't be bothered to get out of your chair to play with the cat.

Get one of those laser pointers and let the cat see the red spot, once the attention is got, then move the laser around, the cat will follow it and try to get it. I do it with the visiting cats, it is amusing to lead the cat on with the laser spot until the cat goes into hunting mode and waits watching the spot, crouching down shuffling it's back legs ready for the pounce, the trick is to watch until the point where the cat just pounces, then move the spot, so it don't get it, a game for humans as well, you, your reactions against the cats. The cat missing it looks miffed, but it doubles it's efforts and tries a new way to get it. Interesting to watch, and good for the cats skills too and no blood unless you put the spot on someone else.

A friend did it in the pub to one of the pub cats, but put the spot on the Landlord's bare leg, the cat had him then legged it, my pal got ejected from the pub. So funny to watch a cat flying through the air, all legs posed with claws bared, hugging the landlords leg before bouncing off and out the door.

my neighbors cat comes over, and if I don't pay attention to her, she swats at me and hisses.

she's actually an annoying little beast.
