There may actually be some hope for y'all after all!

He was so twisted up in trying not to say anything concrete that he could be pinned down on later that his celebrated rhetorical abilities abandoned him. His message was incomprehensible, or there was none to begin with.

Contrast that with his speech to the NAACP talking about something he actually knows something about. Powerful and inspiring. Of course Bill Cosby was vilified for saying the same things but he will be lauded.

Lockit -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/22/2009 9:08:07 PM)

I just saw a report on that clinic in his old neighborhood that his wife started. Most interviewed were not white. They felt the hospital that Mrs. Obama was VP of treated the poor badly, sent them to other hospitals etc. I didn't get to see the full report, but there were doctors and all sorts of people saying the whole thing was a mess. One doctor said it was a good thing.

I am one of those who are ill and need change, but if it means that they will teach older and ill people, counsel them in how to take their life according to the link I posted above... fuck that.

It is clear that Obama doesn't know what is in the works. He keeps talking something ideal and yet... its a fantasy at this point.

Republicans are using the T-word - taxes - to attack the Obama healthcare program. It's a strategy based in a lie.

You know, when the Fred Thompson Show says that the sky is blue, I'd want to get a second opinion. And the woman he interviewed - Betsy McCaughey ? Works for the Hudson Institute funded largely by health insurances and pharmaceutical companies, a fact that Thompson conveniently forgot to mention. Of course, Thompson himself also has decades of experience as a corporate lobbyist.

Just one example of the BS in that interview: macular degeneration. The interviewee claims that in Britain "drugs are denied for it". Trouble is - it's usually preventable without drugs; you use vitamins (specifically, Lutein, Omega-3, etc.)

Actually, Obama addressed this issue at the press conference, when one of the members of the press asked him if this plan he is pushing forward would provide coverage to every American... and he was CLEAR in saying that the ONLY way to make sure that every American was covered would be to go to a Single Payor Plan... so why the FLIP aren't they doing that, instead of pandering to the profit-mongers by attempting this BS program that will do nothing more than assure continued padding of pockets?

What a waste of time.

To have a debate on an issue you need two sides.

This was an infomercial for the health insurance companies promoting the same tired alarmist propaganda that's been challenged numerous times.

Louve00 -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 6:21:04 AM)

Single payor plans will take away your choice, which is what so many people are against.

Personally, for me and my thinking, other countries do that and everyone's happy with it.  But I'm sure you've heard the scare tactics and logic of those (just here in the forums, alone) that don't want the choice to choose their insurance taken away.

The article has nothing to do with healthcare, and it is bordering on hysterical conspiracy theories of taxation.

Meanwhile, how is raising questions about how to finance a bill an "attack"? It includes 540 billion in increased taxes and then a huge gap supposedly filled by savings that are so speculative the CBO refuses to count them as offsets to the cost. Ie...probably more taxes will be needed. That isnt an attack, its probing the fundamental economic issues of the bill.

It is right of out of the Dem playbook to demonize anyone who asks appropriate questions and claim they are being attacked. Do your fucking job and answer the questions that you know have to be answered before they are asked, and you wouldnt be "attacked".

Lockit -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 10:28:50 AM)

Thank you rulemylife.  I am trying to load the page... it's taking a long while.  We are going to hear bs no matter what side is saying what it seems.  I hate the debate from one side to another and just want the right things done and honesty, although I know that is far too much to ask. Different views I can handle.  Different views based on lies is another story. I don't often get involved in the polictical stuff, but this issue is something very important to me and those I have worked with.

My experience has been that most the congress persons and senator's I have dealt with gave lip service. I found four who did not and were stand up people in my opinion. Most lied to me, but these four did not and actually moved to get things done even when they started on a different position that I was trying to talk them out of and did on a couple things and I have proof of that when they voted in the direction I was asking them to go after not wanting to go in that direction when we first spoke.

All of this is confusing to me and I can't know what is what as my brain isn't what it once was, but I know illness, how it goes for people with illness and loss and how it filters into society. That is something I know pretty well and I haven't lost it yet. I've been out of it all for a few years, but some things don't change.

I'd like anyone who lies to the public to get something passed to be removed from office or position, but that is as idealistic as some of this shit they are getting over on us is.

Its been over half an hour and I still can't load the page from the link and I have a good speed normally. Yikes!

Lockit -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 12:07:38 PM)

Well that link page is totally jammed up and I can't get it to scroll or anything. I can't even get it to close, but all my other windows are acting normally.

Lockit -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 12:48:28 PM)

Thank you Lucy! I will try that. I still can't shut that other page down! lol I kind of wondered at the start of it if it was traffic... but dang if my brain can put two and two together some days! But I really want to see what I can see about this bill! Not that I think we will have any choice here. They are going to put it through or not... it's not in our hands.

Lockit -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 1:27:05 PM)

So far I don't like what I am reading. It sounds like the elderly will have to have counseling and appoint or agree to others helping them to making decisions and though I am just starting out, the way it is all worded raises some red flags for me. Their decision will be basically up to the people in charge from the sounds of it.

Is this how they plan to lower medicare cost?

Anyone can be labled unstable or unable to decide for themselves. All it takes is a medical professional.. and not always a doctor... to say they are off somehow, even borderline stuff... as things are already and you are no longer able to be in charge of your medical care. I was labled and can prove no one ever treated me for what they labled me as... no one ever proved it with anything and I can prove differently, but am not given the chance. Only those doctors I questioned in how they treated me or wouldn't treat me and got mad at me because I stood up to them, labled me these things and funny thing is, they were friends. So in my case... I would have someone else deciding for me from the sounds of it.

that's not true. It isn't done in other countries. Other countries don't do that and that's why they are happy with it. Other countries have choices and decide between the patient and the doctor. Insurance companies make the decisions in the United States and and deny care. It's the Republicans that are using scare tactics and it's the insurance companies now making the decisions. You need to watch that show I posted from PBS frontline, sick in America

Brain -> RE: HEALTH CARE (7/23/2009 2:08:20 PM)

You're nothing but a mouthpiece for the insurance companies. I don't know why. Maybe it's because he owns stock in a HMO or maybe it's because you're an insurance salesman or maybe it's because you're a Republican. Either way you're definitely a Republican. But one thing you are not is objective and genuine. You're definitely disingenuous and misleading
