This is a hard question to answer. I think you need to know a lot about sociology and anthropology and culture. The more you know the better to answer this question.

Because some Caucasians, particularly religious ones, think they are superior. Adolf Hitler was a Catholic. And I must say Christianity has done a good public relations job to distance itself from its involvement in the inhumanity of the second world war.

So because Caucasians think they are superior they reinforce this thinking by making fun of others different from them. For example gay people, the Bible tells them homosexuality is bad and because of their faith they possess certitude their behavior is appropriate. So they make fun of gay people and even worse some of them resort to violence.

You said “the white man has fucked up more shit than any other race known on earth...and then applaud ourselves for doing so..…” That’s true but they also make fun of each other. People making fun of the Irish or Irish making fun of the British or Scots or vice versa. I know Greeks and Italian’s make fun of the English from cooking to the way they raise their children.

Christmas, Santa Claus and Easter with the bunny rabbits are a little different because they’ve been influenced by capitalism or consumerism. For instance, if you look into it, the present concept of Santa Claus, a fat man in a red suit giving presents, that’s all about corporations brainwashing us to spend money buying stuff so they can make profits. Santa Clause was a creation of the Coca-Cola Company, at least the modern version of the man in a red suit.

The rabbits have to do with springtime and love is in the air and procreating the human race and all of that stuff. Rabbits because they have many babies and it has to do with humans having sex and having children and the weather getting better in the spring so men and women going out together and having fun, including sex.

I think you need to know a lot about sociology and anthropology and culture. The more you know the better to answer this question.

I think you need to kinda take your own advice.

Everything about your posts scream "faux intellectual", from your name, to your facile, easy answers and utter certitudes of your proclamations.

Your understanding of culture, religion and history seems to be confidentially portrayed as the sole, correct and only acceptable viewpoint, yet the highest philosophical authority you cite is George Carlin.and some left wing websites.

You make claims of facts such as "Hitler was Catholic" in an attempt to associate  and besmirch the Catholic Church with Nazism, with no apparent understanding of Hitler's efforts, plans and attempts to destroy Christianity in his Nazi Germany.

You claim "Caucasians think they are superior" as a given in your post, giving a perfect example of racist thinking yourself - lumping all people of a similar race into one great big group and then judging them as a single entity.

Your attempts to somehow claim that Western holidays that are based in Christian religious history are somehow a twisted, evil capitalist plot. (Christmas, at the very least.  I'm not sure what evil you think rests in the Easter Bunny.) do nothing other than show your hatred for Christianity, capitalism, and Western civilization.

I've named what any reasonable person would call your beliefs in an earlier post, in another thread.  All I can say is that you are doing a damn fine job of proving my point.

Oh, wait ...

I see you linked to a couple of TV documentaries, too.

I guess that show that I saw on The History Channel proves that Big Foot exists as well. And Atlantis was in the Bimini Islands ...

Dig deeper.  Think harder. Post less BS.

Yes you do.  So why are you answrring when it's pretty obvious you have no idea?

Except when he wasn't and tried to destroy christianity and murder jews.  But other than that, yes, the myth that he was a good catholic boy.

I know quite a few greeks who would balk at being called a white.  And how all the Irish and all the Scotish suddenly become not British just shows your lack of understanding of what the word means.
The rest, is humour.

a debate on religion is foolish. it serves no purpose, no one changes their minds or even comes to see another's point of view, and it causes upset in most everyone.

I don’t mind talking about it with other people. I think we can talk about it without getting angry and being at each others throats. Look at Mike Huckabee going on the John Stewart show, they disagreed with each other about abortion but they had a very civilized discussion and it was also educational. But I thought George Carlin did a great job because he was doing his job as a comedian being funny but he also used his intellect or logic to point out the inconsistencies or what doesn’t make sense about religion. John Stewart show's are online.

If there is a God I don’t have any problem with it but there just isn’t any scientific evidence. In the old days if you were a pregnant woman and not married they would stone you to death. In fact, it’s still done in some places in the Middle East. I think that’s what happened with respect to the birth of Jesus. I think she was pregnant and not married and she didn’t want to die so she made the whole thing up about the baby being God’s to save her life.

For me that makes sense. I remember watching Judge Judy one day and she said if it doesn’t make sense it’s a lie. That’s what she said to a defendant. And that’s the way I feel about religion. There’s a lot of things that just don’t make any sense.

So is the assumption that they are in some way compromising their values by using a currency adopted as the national currency for the last two centuries.

Actually, the phrase didn't appear on coins until 1864 and on paper money until 1957.

In both cases it was pressure from Christian groups on Congress that caused the changes.

My most common cuss is "NURTZ!", and the next most common, when I'm really peeved, but it may eventually be resolvable, is "Merde!" or "Crap!" If I'm really on a tear, there's no hope for a solution, and I've been driven down to my very last nerve, it's "Shitpissfuckcuntcocksuckermotherfuckerandtits!" It’s just a bad habit like smoking. You know it’s wrong and it doesn’t make any sense but people do it anyway. It’s because we get brainwashed when we are children and told lies that there is a God and lies that there is a Santa Clause.

Watch this, George was right, and pardon the expression but God bless him.

George Carlin - Religion is bullshit.

Why would you wish to bless someone with something you dont believe in. a bit hypocritical there, even if it was a poor attempt at a joke.

I adore Carlin, and he was an intelligent man, but, his beliefs were his beliefs, they are not mine. Just as you cannot prove there isnt a god, you only have an assumption based upon what others have told you. Working as a nurse, i have seen many miracles, things science could never explain.

Mother Theresa didnt believe she was superior to anyone. Ghandi didnt either and he wasnt christian. Instead of drawing a coorleation between religion and nut cases, try drawing it between nut cases and psychology, you would have a much easier time and more people may believe you.

again, another HUGE assumption. Not all caucasians make fun of other people. not all believe being gay is wrong. We do believe stupidity is rampant and posts such as yours only strengthen our belief.

Research your facts please.

quote:

*The story of the most-famous of gift givers varies from one source to another, with many opinions in between. The most popular version of the tale of St. Nicholas follows.

Born in 280 AD in Asia Minor, St. Nicholas was a Christian Priest who later became a bishop. He traveled extensively and being of good wealth, was given to presenting gifts of money and other presents to perfect strangers, as well as acquaintances. Never wanting to be found out, he left his offerings in the homes of his receivers only after dark, when all were in bed asleep. And to this day, those who believe in Santa Claus are still warned that if even one peep or footstep is heard, St. Nicholas will not leave the treasured surprises that are anxiously awaited.

In 303 AD, Roman emperor Diocletian commanded that St. Nicholas be honored as a god. The conscience of Christians in Rome would not allow the serving of another god, and this angered Diocletian so that he imprisoned even Nicholas himself, for refusing to be served as the emperor wished. He remained in prison until Constantine came to rule in 313, and returned to his position as Bishop of Myra. It is said he continued his wise and caring ways throughout his life, which ended on December 6, 343.

By 450 AD, churches in Greece were being named in honor of Nicholas and by 800 AD he was recognized officially as a saint by the Catholic Church. By the 15th century, he was behind only Jesus and Mary as the most beloved religious figure---more than 2000 chapels and monasteries were named in his honor.

By the 1500s, the English began favoring Father Christmas, and as St. Nicholas’s popularity continued to grow, new and embellished stories of his true-to-life kindnesses, especially to children, were widely spread.

‘Santa Claus’ comes from the Dutch ‘Sinterklass,’ a pronunciation of St. Nicholas. As children the world over attempted to pronounce Sinterklass, the name was soon ‘Santa Klass,’ and finally, Santa Claus. Quickly the bishop’s wardrobe of handsome cloak and bejeweled gloves were replaced with the now famous red suit, hat, and shiny black boots.

Now, you can argue till your blue in the face, sadly, the things you have posted here lead me to believe you speak without thought, act on what you were told instead of knowing the facts, and have seriously underminded your credibilty with me, at least. and, of that, you can make whatever you wish.

I agree about the Nativity scenes and all the other things some people get upset about like saying happy holidays instead of wishing someone Merry Christmas.

I think this is different though.

I looked into some of the percentages that the group is claiming in the lawsuit and while the numbers vary a little the 15% with no religious affiliation seems pretty accurate, but if you include those with other religious beliefs (Hindu, Buddhist, etc.) the number jumps to 21%.

So you have over 1/5 of the population having their tax dollars being used to engrave beliefs contrary to their own on a publicly-funded building.

*sighs*...common sense in small villages in the USA?
I'm sad to say that on several (long) visits I've not had the pleasure to witness that yet.
What I HAVE firsthand experienced is very direct offensive behaviour because I would't go to church, that the lady friend I was visiting (no, no sleeping with, just visiting) was excluded at the schoolyards when she picked up her kids because I was visiting, that I got harrassed by police officers..all because the fanatics in town were the ones deciding all things.
And like I said, I've had all this happen several times , in several states and places.
Truth be told, the US cities may be a bit enlightened, but the whole countryside is stuck in a decidedly unhealthy religious fanaticism...in my opinion that is.

Religion is strictly personal and should stay as far away from state and government as is possible. Pushing one's fate on another, whether by state or by other persons, is a form of tyranny that's completely unacceptable.

Valid points, Rule. But there are those of us who do not believe in religion and do not affiliate with any organization, though still have faith. Not sure if this even matters in the argument, but the term "religion" keeps flying around.

"In God we trust" does not bother me in the slightest because i do trust Him. I can see the arguement but my question is where is this going to end? Our tax dollars pay to produce new monies, which also have that mantra.

And what about those that WANT our tax dollars to pay for the engraving? Seems we are screwed...and not the first time.
