Well, the line was uttered by someone who was 'supposed to' be British. Who knows what they eat at their carnivals over there.

I have a skunk raiding my honey bee hive. I was hoping after a long absence, it had moved on after last fall/winter. Apparently it loves my bees. I am going to have to shoot it and I don't want to. However, coming face to face, and far too close for comfort, while walking the dogs late at night, in the dark, is NOT good for my heart.

We've been lucky so far but I just know, one of these times, one of us is going to get it. Me or one of the dogs. If it was one of the dogs, my luck it would probably be the 12# redhead that is living with the delusion that she is 120# of vicious attitude. She likes to sleep in bed next to me, under the covers, against my stomach. Imagine the tunnel effect even with a deskunking bath.

I don't know about raccoons, but a radio host I used to listen to was more terrified of possums. He (jokingly) swore they were demons masquerading as animals, especially after seeing one in the pitch dark starring back at him, its eyes glowing because of his flashlight.......before it walked straight ahead and right up a tree without taking its eyes off him. He said it was like the thing was mocking him saying "Look....see what I can do?"

Possums are UGLY! I've had to whack two of them since living at the farm. Generic Dude thought I was losing my mind when I came in one night, splattered with blood, asking him to fling the body as far as he could out into the set-aside.

It was hilarious listening to this host talk about his possum woes. When he moved into that house, he said they found a dead one that, when approached......wasn't dead and promptly attacked one of the other guys on the show. I think one jumped in the truck and the other ran away. He said it still gives him the willies.

Lat..you can buy skunk repellent at a feed store. Or better yet, set a trap. Once you have caught it, wait until dark, call someone you don't like and ask them to remove the raccoon for you.

I think that's kind of cool.  Of course, if you knew me, that wouldn't surprise you.

I have a opossum living under my cottage (raised floor on stone).  I hear him scuffling around midnight almost every night, reassuring actually.  We "met" in the driveway one evening last fall. He lookd at me, I looked at him, he wandered off to his little spot by the corner of the house and crawled in.  My very own house demon.  I leave him alone and he leaves me alone.

IF, I didn't know that possums and skunks are one of the worst culprits with rabies around here right now and IF I didn't have pet animals, I might have left these two alone. But there is a rule with rodents at my house, you wanna live, stay of my yard. They didn't so they met my shovel and the shovel won.

I have the same rule with spiders. Only I replace "yard" with "sight."

Skunk repellent! What the hell do they use to repel skunks? Lutefisk?

I completely understand and if I was on more than my tiny patch of land in my little house, I would probably do the same.  I've lived on farms where these animals, skunks/opossums/raccoons, have done their fair share of damage and once discovered were "dispatched".

I'm not as kind to the mice that come in during the winter (and neither are my cats).

Just HAVE to chime in here...first of all, Possums are not rodents...they are marcupials. Second, it is VERY rare for them to carry/have rabies. Very rare. They are fabulous creatures with most interesting and amazing personalities and habits.
I am biased, yes, as I have one, a little boy, as a pet. But, before I got him I learned everything I could about them. Hate to see them maligned because of simple misinformation. Please don't kill them...they have it rough enough in the wild without our hands making it worse for them.

I accidentally came face to face with a spider like that....eye-level....on the ground. I was being goofy as a youngin' and 'pushing' my head across the floor because I was too lazy to stand up. When I did look where I was going, he was right there saying "Hello!"

Not a fun experience. I'm not afraid of spiders.....but I really REALLY hate them.

I once had a mamma cat eat a mouse right in front of me. That was.....appetizing.

I am completely opposed to spiders. There's just something thoroughly wrong about them, on every level.
