Normally I would not step in to disagree, but I do think that fetish is an appropriate usage, and a very relevant usage from my own perspective. From the OED: - Something irrationally reverenced (1837)
- An object, a non-sexual part of the body, or a particular action which abnormally serves as the stimulus to, or the end in itself of, sexual desire (1901)
Many, but certainly not all, fetishes deal with objects. I think the key is rather that a fetish is an abnormally strong interest or sexual desire in an object or action. So for example, a man aroused by women in high heels would not be a fetish, but if he fixates on the high heels to the exclusion of further and broader activity, then it is a fetish. The reason I bring this up, is that I think fetishes can be cultured, and can be useful. In my own case, I was not born being sexually excited by housework, rather I began to read and to masturbate and to think about housework as a means of harnessing my sexuality in a way which helped me be a better slave. Although there are physical objects attached to the activity (mops, brooms, the vacuum, a swiffer etc.), by an large this abnormal interest is rooted in the action itself. I have "fetishized" the activity of housework, and as such, it makes it appealing to offer no strings housework. Gradually the housework has become something of an end in and of itself. I am largely celibate and certainly would not masturbate or gain an erection while I was cleaning. though this housework is certainly more meaningful to me when it is performed for a strong woman.
