I like spunk and spirit but I won't abide a brat.  I think that bratting or otherwise bucking on a consistent basis is an insult to servitude.

The word "Brat" is not popular here.  I see you've figured that out.  It mostly implies a sub who CONSTANTLY disobeys to manipulate their Dom.  I believe the majority of us prefer to be with someone who has a personality that we like, which can be mischievous or impish, but not defiant.  It all pretty much depends upon the way such behavior is couched.  If it is perceived as just being playful, that's fine.  If it crosses the line into the realm of annoying or flat out disobedience, that's not good.

Impish is telling me that my electronic device is not working because I'm not using it the way the box says to.... but the box could be wrong.  Bratty is 'cleaning up' and rearranging all my stuff so I can find anything.  Deliberately breaking things by 'accidentally knocking them off the shelf' would be grounds for immediate dismissal. 

My Westie used to switch to his higher pitched "subby voice" when he corrected my errors - like when I screwed up the computer.  My new one enjoys "sassing" me and shooting me "the look" to see how I react.  Depending on the dynamic, some subs can get away with more 'bad behavior' if they do it in a playful way that signals to their Dom that they are only teasing.

i know i was mistaken by choosing "bratty", MsStarlett. i was trying to imply a submissive that's playful and maybe a little mischievous. i apologize for my screw up

Depending on the dynamic, some subs can get away with more 'bad behavior' if they do it in a playful way that signals to their Dom that they are only teasing.

Maybe a more productive question would be "How seriously should a domme take herself?"  Most dommes, I've noticed, like the 'impish play' stuff.  A few, though, put such behaviour under the heading of 'brattiness'.  One gets the feeling that for these dommes, allowing even the merest smile at a sub's joke would mean the entire world of D/s instantly shattering.

Faded, you just have to realize that just like male subs often 'present' as alpha male types in r/l social or business situations, many if not most Dommes (I wouldn't hazard a guess at the percentages) have a duel personality (for lack of a better term.)  There is a time and a place for that fun loving impish behavior... and a time when it will get you big trouble. 

Personally, I can't speak for all, only myself, but I'm no Ice Bitch.  Actually, I've never met a Domme who was that stereotypical Ice Bitch 24/7/365.  I can't imagine what trying to stay that angry all the time would do to one's blood pressure... not to mention the amount of Botox it would take to keep those frown lines off a lady's face.  I prefer to have friends who are lively, fun loving and into mischievous jokes.  I prefer my subs to be friends first, then add the layer of D/s on top of that foundation.  Basically, if I can't stand to spend vanilla time with you, I don't want to bother wasting my precious little D/s time on someone I don't LIKE.  But when I put on the stilletos and pick up a flogger, you better zip it and do as you are told or you will rue the day you were born.

Feisty !.. Real personality with spirit, a sense of humor coupled with the need to serve.. it's all good.
bratty seems to mean deliberately disobedient.. far too often.
