Mambo has a friend DOM....Master FARLO..twice he has taken girlz under protection..

Now to Him and them it means this :
 
These girlz did not fit or match his style/or he theirs or would not become his subs as such but they had developed enough communication and connection he felt he wanted to watch out for them..as they were newbies..
 
This consisted of looking at messages if they thought he may have insight..at times talking to prospective DOMS..and wow were assholes weeded fast...and he also kept and eye out for possible matchs...
 
IT worked well for the idea they had of it...
MAster Farlo is a big teddy bear Daddy DOM and likes to protect and mentor.
...and keep them from harm while at the same time ushering them into a delicious world with the best possible knowledge and help

I can't get past associating it with those Castle Realm people in the mid- to late 90s; they were always popping into IRC chatrooms and warning people, "Be aware that the lady you are talking to there is under the protection of such-and-such Knight of Castle Dragonskeep" or some such silliness, as though that was supposed to have some meaning to everyone. I've never been able to take the term seriously since then.

I started a great thread about that before the majority. My thread got the most hits too.  Everyone knows I think of the best topics and have the most insightful replies.

Some time ago, I'd gotten curious about that as well, and asked a close friend of mine about it.  He explained to me: "they basically watch out for the woman, advise her about people she's getting to know, and step in if they see someone getting too pushy with the woman."

My response was:  "And they make a big deal giving it a title? Isn't that what any friend would do?"

I've got half a dozen people I know of who do that exact sort of thing, but they just call it being my friend. And they were more interested in encouraging me to trust my own instincts and common sense than in encouraging me to rely on anyone else to do it for me.

It's not a phrase I believe I have ever uttered nor have I had it uttered about me, to my knowledge. 
That having been said, the things about which I would say this (And accept it being said about me) don't have anything specific to do with bdsm per se; I'd say it to mean (And accept it to mean) that if someone messes with a person, they're 'one of my people' and messing with them is akin to messing with me and is uncool unwise, and really just plain dumb (And, if someone said it of me, that would be an acceptable context assuming we had the sort of bond where that assertion was appropriate). 
In short: to me, it means: you mess with them, you're messing with me and, as always, actions have consequences.

Playing a bit of the devil's advocate here since so many comments are cynically derisive...

Perhaps it's just an affirmation of someone who's very into a caretaking, Daddy/babygirl dynamic. I think it can sound rather endearing, actually.

Can I give this understanding of it another "yeah, that" ?  This is how I see it.  He may not be in a romantic relationship with me or anything, but can still be looking over me, and providing a buffer against the scary ones.

And he got all that experience and insight and people skills by spending his days and nights at the keyboard, talking to girlz, whatever that is.. normally a load of crapola from someone who forgot to tell everybody that he is married and stuff.

I agree. When I was first looking I was new to bdsm and pretty much new to the net (I didn't even have yahoo messenger or msn).

I was able to:
Weed out the fakes and HNGs
Weed out the "Masters" who were nothing of the sort
Weed out the "married but looking for a bit on the side sort"

Did it all on my own. I guess because I am an adult!
