TheHeretic -> RE: If God is Insane and/or Evil, Should We Still Worship Him? (8/9/2009 7:30:22 PM)

I don't ID as a Christian, RML, though I do have a good foundation in conservative protestantism, the modern charismatic movement, and spent a few years incarcerated in Baptist school. I grasp the concept of the personal relationship with Christ. Some of it stuck, some is long gone, but my beliefs need a bigger framework than I find there. You say that the folks who do this used to be Christians, but I don't see it that way. I think some are still very stuck within that box of thinking. Their view of religion and spirituality is still defined by the limited paradigm of their own negative experiences. Their only conception of "God" is the Christian myth, and usually the most limited of Sunday School metaphor. Then we have the bigots like Bill Maher who don't get it, don't try, but like to feel superior to others. I really don't give a fuck what they think, but I'm happy to call them on their behavior. As for my nic, RML, leave me alone in a room long enough with people of any belief system, and somebody will start piling up the firewood. [:D]
