Christ. BoiJen is one thing. She knows exactly what she's doing. And I'm always rather impressed by a good "suicide by mod" attempt. But you actually think that your posts help your case. And are seemingly unaware that picking fights with mods isn't actually a good idea on most forums. Lulz. Seriously, you need to eat more fresh fruit.

Especially if they might be able to tell that the other person would suck it all up and react so predictably?

As Mod Eleven stated above, threads aren't closed at the request of users. I got pissed off about a thread I started when I first began posting on the boards being censored to the point I found it unintelligible. I asked that it be removed. My request was denied. Obviously, my head didn't explode as, for better or worse, and I hung around and made some friends, learned some things, etc. Wyzardsgirl, I defind your right to commit suicide by Mod if you desire (Though, I think if that's your intent, you could simply exit with less fanfare) but taking a breath and maybe checking out why you decided to be here versus your emotions right in this moment may be another option.
