One thing I like to keep in mind when hearing some Christian higher ups (or those from other religions) condemning BDSM, or anything else. How much do they really know about it? Those in religious positions of authority are supposed to be above reproach. Not that they all are, but I'd assume that to be the ideal. Which means that they have probably grown up in a religious home and known that religion all their lives. Again, not always, but generally. So when they were growing up, you know that things were even more stringent than they are now. So they never had a chance to get exposed to things like BDSM. How much can they really know? They know that it's "deviant" because that's what they were told. Whenever someone condemns something as evil, I always want to ask just how much they really know about it. Not to mention, I've often thought that religion is something of a haven for the close-minded. Something with a set of rules and morals that they can follow and then point to everyone else and say "I'm better and more moral than them." Again, I know this isn't anything close to the norm, but I think that mindset might be more common among those who look at anything they don't know or understand and call it evil. And even if someone does know something about BDSM, that doesn't mean they understand it. Some things you just have to experience to understand. And if you don't have a Dominant, submissive, painslut, etc. in you, then you're never going to be able to truly understand it. And it can be very easy to look at things you can't make any sense out of and say "it can't be right."
