What do you think of him now?

DesFIP -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 3:35:15 PM)

I'm praying he can get a universal health care package pushed through. It's past time that we had basic coverage.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 4:13:46 PM)

I think he took a crappy job... one that most of our population couldn't handle. I think he's doing the best he can with it, and so far, he hasn't done anything that has trashed the Constitution and is trying to make some inroads into trying to help people as best he can. I don't know whether what he's doing will help, but I know he thinks it will, and I have to give him credit for getting off the sofa and trying.

I think he's only had six months, and it takes forever in this country to change anything, because nobody wants a change that means that -they- have to have that change in -their- lives. We'd be all for Universal Health if Mr. President was paying for it all by himself, doing all the work, didn't touch anything that affected us, and we didn't have to do anything but take, take, take--but like everything else, change within the structure of a group requires compromise, and I think we are proving to be the most heartless, selfish, greedy, vain generations to have existed in this country, and it shows.

If even half the population would turn off the TV and do something, maybe the President wouldn't be in the minority working towards change in this country.

DC

I think he took a thankless, shit job knowing full-well that a lot of what needed to be done wasn't going to be 'pleasant' and he said so when he accepted the election results.

Considering the nature of this nation of cynical assholes, he's weathered the storm nicely.

DarkSteven -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 4:57:12 PM)

Frankly, I'm somewhat disappointed.  I have to admire how he's tried to rescue our foreign policy mess, but domestically he's continued Bush's concepts of less openness, individuals held without trial or justification, and bailouts for criminal misdeeds.

MusicalBoredom -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 4:59:54 PM)

I think he is doing a great job.  He is pushing for aggressive changes when most politicians are afraid to do so.  I also like the he stands behind his ideas and listens and lets others talk.  He is putting his agenda on the table, not behind closed doors for a change.  The people are being forced to stand up say what they think and get their representatives to hear them and represent them.

SpinnerofTales -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 5:29:04 PM)

I think that he's done some stuff I like, some stuff I don't like so well and some stuff that has made me smile or laugh. Ask me again in three years and let's see what he does with the rest of his time.

MarsBonfire -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 5:30:13 PM)

I'm a little frustrated with his continued attempts to coax evil shit sucking republicans into doing the right things via bipartisanship. (It's obvious they don't have the USA's welfare in mind by being the party of "no" and trying to lead the President into some sort of "Waterloo.") It's taking him time to fulfill his promises due to these worthless fucks feet dragging. If it had been left up to them, we'd be in a second great depression, and GM and several other US auto companies would have fallen like dominoes.

We're getting out of Iraq.
GITMO is being closed down.
We're trying to get health care for everyone.
GM was saved from the scrapheap.
The US credit system was saved from a black hole-like collapse.
Our reputation overseas is improving every single day.
Science is being treated as something other than a punching bag by creationists.

And let's see... what were the GOP alternatives? Um... well...
Oh, yeah... THERE NEVER WERE ANY. (Unless you count "more tax cuts for the fucking vampiric rich!") But at least they can be counted on for racist protests with teabags, and showing up at town hall meertings with bullhorns and loaded guns... (Yeah, makes ME see the value of their arguments...! [sarcasam]  )

Gosh, if only McCain and Palin had gotten in! We'd be living in fucking Utopia now, wouldn't we? (more sarcasam)

I must object to calling the Republican's in the congress "evil and shit sucking"....it's redundant.

I couldn't resist.

Deicide -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 5:47:15 PM)

I voted for him on the idea that he was the lesser of two evils. He's yet to do anything to change my mind about that, although I don't support all his actions thus for, such as sending even more troops to the 'war'.

Which war is that?

MarsBonfire -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 5:55:51 PM)

Spinner, I'm not sure that "evil" and being a "shit sucker" is neccessarily a redundancy. Maybe we should pop over to the "Ask a Mistress" forum and ask if a sub they do scat with is inherently evil.... But you bring up a good question though!  ;)

pyroaquatic -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 6:32:30 PM)

He was a human before and he is human now.

Musicmystery -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 6:46:30 PM)

I think he became President of a country headed for a shit field at full speed with a broken accelerator.

I didn't expect perfection, especially as he adjusted to the reality facing him (a wise thing to do). Most presidents (Bush was an exception, unfortunately) govern to the center of where they campaigned anyway (as they need to govern the entire country, not just their supporters). I like what he's doing generally, and cut him slack for addressing a big pile of messes. At the very least, his reasons make sense to me, even where they might not be my favorite approaches.

[And before someone asks, yes, I cut Bush the same slack, especially after 9/11 regarding invading Afghanistan, which I did not find such a good idea, but understood. The slack ran out over invading Iraq and the Patriot Act.]

cornflakegirl -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 8:24:23 PM)

I voted for him because the McCain Palin ticket scared the shit out of me. I still think that was the best choice. He's done some things that I find reprehensible, and he's working on some things that I find really amazing and wonderful. It's a nice change from a reprehensible/ok president, but certainly not my ideal.

I don't think my ideal exists outside of me running for pres anyway.

Louve00 -> RE: For those that voted for our latest President.. (8/15/2009 8:47:32 PM)

I think he's doing a good job, too.  I think he's trying to fix the economy, carrying on one war, end another, provide healthcare to a G8 country, a country, in my opinion that shouldn't have its citizen's despondant and in dire need of health care.  Is it too much?  Yes.  But do we feel anything is less important than another to put off? I don't.  I think he does, at least, try to understand the concerns of American people.  (At least, I don't know of another administration that allowed you to email the president and tell him what your beef was, and if your email was read, it would be responded to...by him.

I think though, he's still a politician and operates as a democrat.  In the ways that checks and balances go, in the long run, it takes a democrat every few years to bring back to focus the changes a republican administration runs by.  (Not saying democratics can stay focused.  The left side too, will need balancing for their way of running things.  But for the time being, I think that time for balance is due.

He seems to be a bit of a ham on the television, though.  But when I think of it, all the presidents abused their power in one way or another.  Wanting to be a comedian, throw alot of parties, and hob-nob with celebrities is hardly as bad as some of the power abuse that other presidents took advantage of.

I will say he's a bit enamored with celebrities and parties, which makes me see him as a bit of a socialite (Note, not socialIST lol).  But considering the power of position they're in.  Well, Nixon, watergate...Clinton, Monica and whitewater....Bush, international bully and irritant...

You misunderstand me, Mars. I wasn't saying "evil" and being a "shitsucker" was redundant. I was saying "evil shitsucker" and "Republican" is redundant.

(I know it's politically incorrect and probably offensive...but I'm gonna ride this joke like a pony at a kid's birthday party)

Ron Paul 2012 - don't die you bastard.

That was my thoughts exactly - the lesser of two evils.

I think he is doing better than John & Sarah would have done without any question.  Hopefully we get health care.

I am happy......

This is an interesting thought. It does seem that Obama likes being a celebrity. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. It means he's up there talking and that makes it easier to keep an eye on him. I would rather he stop at the Jay Leno show and cancel his planned appearance on Dancing with the Stars next season.

I'm very disappointed. I've lost a great deal of trust and respect for him already. He's showing a terrible lack of leadership on key issues, first with the stimulus bill and now on the health care debate. His arrogance is generally troubling and sometimes downright appalling. I'm shocked by the quiet deal he cut with the pharmacy lobbyists to get them on board with the health care bill, and feel that many of his campaign promises regarding openness and transparency in government, not to mention the influence of lobbyists on the legislative process, have been completely tossed aside.

In short, just 7 months into his term, I'm wondering who the hell this guy is and what he did with the man i voted for. I don't like this guy. I have no confidence in him, and very little respect for what I've seen of his character thus far. And i'm wishing Hillary had been the nominee. I would never have voted for her, but she'd be doing a much more effective job of presidenting. Sure, she's probably an even bigger weasel than he's shaping up to be, but she doesn't pretend to be anything but a weasel, and at least she would have brought with her a level of competence and effectiveness that he is woefully lacking at this stage of his administration.
