I totally agree with LP on this one. There are people with whom I will never engage in more than a casual conversation because of their message board behavior, making me realize that they have zero class whatsoever. It is very hard to develop a decent reputation, but it takes only a few short moments to destroy that repuation, even to the point of where it may never be re-established again.

These people would only have relevance if I were looking. I normally ignore such threads and if I do read them then I tend to forget very quickly who it was that started them.
If they continue to post to other forums then I may recall the name and picture but its doubtful I remember why I recall them. Posting is like advertising in that if we do enough of it we will start to become familiar and they say that bad advertising is better than no advertising at all.

The names I do remember are (like stella said) the ones who obnoxious women/men that continually use put downs. The keyboard warriors that show a not very nice personality.

Greetings LadyPact....

No. They should not create a new profile. That just compounds the problems they had originally and makes things worse for them because of trying to hide who they were. People will find out and will usually consider that a bad thing. Note that slaves/subs changing profiles when becoming owned or changing owners and who reference who they were is something else and not a bad thing.

As for dying by your posts. I think if they get such a bad reaction from their posts that they want to run, they should do so. Run away and never come back. If they can't keep from returning they should deal with what they have done, learn from it and move on and do better. I think much better of people who stick it out than who run.

Be well...

a new user simply tests the vibe of the board and gets a feel for how people react, as a alternative lifestyle board people often have misguided views of what the site is for and post them ex. "need mistress to bone!" or other lovly topic titles.
seasoned posters are more respected for the most part, iv heard many even some i hold a good respect for say stupid shit time to time, as for myself as a "regular?" i dont really care about my respect on the board community, i say what i think, i feel semi respected and generally get positive responses from my posts.

death by posting is doubtfull, people will agree or disagree no matter how enlightened or stupid you are, im sure my fav posters are not everyones, hell im sure one or two people out there dont have me in there fav spot.. (im in everyones top 10 im sure tho)

its pretty frowned apon by almost everyone to follow around someone and harrass all of their posts, ex. if i make a topic "women suck because.." you will look like an ass if you follow me into my video games posts and pick a fight with me there.

basicly what it boils down to is everyone has different opinions, someone i respect in their views on religion i could think is an idiot in relationships, besides i think the forums are pretty "fuck up freindly" for the most part.

No, this isn't a topic about any of us who are so addicted to this site that we've literally died at the keyboard.

So, what is your take on these kinds of things?  Would you recommend in these cases that a person just create a new profile and start over?  Is there such a thing as death by posting?

My take on that sort of thing is; basically I don't GAF, so long as their foot-shooting is entertaining to me.

It's all about me, see

I've buried a few and they still come back to haunt me. Why mail me to say they have blocked me because they find me disgusting and then continue to mail me to tell me so? Attention seeking? Masochism? The need to be Mod spanked? The love of asphyxiation?

I don't know. I can remember back a few years, some posters who did the same thing...basically destroyed THEMSELVES with their first few posts...yet, they hung in there and kept right on posting with the same screenname. Now, a couple of them, while still being a bit 'headstrong and over the top' are also some of the ones who give the absolute best advice.

So...I am going to say no. While yes, the first impression is a bad one...in my eyes, those who hang in there ( without trying to hide who they are or were by changing names ) usually come out on top down the road.

Just my thoughts on it though

Yeah, I am sure my first posts were pretty lame. Of course I am also certain  quite a few of my recent posts are pretty lame also. Sometimes I am not sure what is going through my head is what people actually are able to read in my words.

I actually gain respect for a person that sticks around after their bloody foot shooting, applogises and learns from their initial stupidity. I also like when they dig a trench and stick by their words, proving they are a worthless ass. Makes it easier to disregard them in following posts.

Some people are just purely, entertainment. Doesn't matter how many reincarnations, how many "flowery, wiser new me" profiles they create, the drama is still the same. It gives the sadist in me a masochist to toy with, and laugh at. Even if that is not their intent.

No stick with it and show you have grown as an individual and anyone not willing to accept people can change isn’t worth worrying about.

Often I go through profiles of people and I've seen how their attitudes towards things have changed during the time they have been a member; journal entries, profile rewrites. Having said that I've probably not changed at all and don't care to anytime soon.

Changing names never works because I can always basically tell who people are by the style of writing and their viewpoint. Also some people have profile pictures and if you select the option ‘don't display avatar picture’ you'll see the names change but the faces don't.

In your opinion, would you think that some of these things are basically death by posting?  That the writers have basically shot themselves in the foot to the degree that the best advice that you can give them is that it's time to change their screen name because they have made such a terrible impression?

No, I don't think it's death by posting.  Of course there are people who I think are complete assholes, but who am I?  Even those who I feel are morons will have a following of like-minded people.  Birds of a feather and all that.  Why should someone change their name or try to behave differently to impress a particular group of people?   You can't please everyone anyway, so why bother trying.  That would seem pretty neurotic to me.

For Myself, I'm going to say yes to all.  I tend to think those kinds of things are remembered by, at minimum, forum regulars.

There are too many forum regulars to think of them as a whole, or to think of them as some core group that posters should concern themselves with impressing.

quote:

In the case of the submissive males, the negative attitude towards women certainly allows at least a side of their personality out.  In the case of the Dominant outing someone, how could a sub trust such a Dominant?  Over indulgence of alcohol is often seen as a red flag, isn't it?

For every non trustworthy person, alcoholic, loudmouth etc, there is someone who will see them in a positive light.  The person I think is a irresponsible dom will impress another sub as the dom of her dreams.  People are impressed by different things, have different red flags, different turn offs etc.

I would only recommend they start a new profile if they've already dealt with their problems. Otherwise, the same negative attitudes are bound to come out again and again.

And I agree with Red. I don't need to wait and allow someone to be nasty to me when I already know they are nasty to everyone else.

What frustrates me is the folk who come in, having seemingly never read anything on the forum, nor taken any time to understand where they are at, and then begin spouting off all sorts of nonsense.

Do I think it is a death sentence for someone?
Honestly, no. Not everyone from the other side reads the forums. So someone could be a complete ass clown here and someone on the other side could be totally unaware. I don't think deleting and changing your nick and profile is the answer unless you are going to change your behavior or there is another underlying reason for the change.

Edited to add: Although my objective is NEVER to out right insult anyone at the same time it is also not my objective to kiss the virtual asses of anyone either. I think far to many get caught up in pleasing the masses or the "regs" and often feel as if they can not post or police how they post out of fear of backlash from them.

I think if you observe consisent poor behavior of someone on the message board, it can be a "death" of sorts. Death by profile or journal also occurs. Should the person start over? I think we've seen people make apology postings as a way of making a new start, and I've seen people re-word their profiles, both of which can be effective. However, if the underlying personality of the person is still negative or argumentative, I think it would still show through. Many of us have been able to tell if an "infamous" poster was posting under a dfferent name.

No. They are being totally honest and candid. We pair them up with the "Total honesty - I won't stand for liars because I never lie" crowd. A match made in heaven. If your death by posting argument held water this place would be littered with corpses.
