No offense but we all know that there is a large group of regulars who have a "mob mentality" when it comes to these forums.

Just for the record, I think most would consider me a regular. And I do have quite a few other posters here whom I admire and respect. Some of whom, I'm pretty sure admire and respect me. But I could point you to a few threads of mine wherein being a membr of the in-group didn't save me from being told...firmly *couhs*... that I was an idiot and/or jackass. I could name 5 thoughts bubbling in my head right now that were I to post them here, I'd get baked to a crispy crunch *chuckles*.

Sure, some of us post here a lot and we get known and get to know others. But at least from my perspective, it's not tightly knit enough to look like some high school clique. These are other adults we're talking about, not high school children. They keep their own council as do I.

when I look at a profile I look at forum posts link to see how they carry themselves.   while many don't use the forums those that I do come across that have posted even once 2 years ago I read it when I read their profile good or bad it determines how I will interact with them from that point forward.
Never get a second change at a first impression and while sure there are plenty of subs and slaves willing to message a Domme I wont be among them if they have made an ass out of themselves on the forums (or profile for that matter)

i see this a fair bit sometimes, posts can get kinda cliquey as some older(on time on site not the granddaddies out there) start talking to each other, you can get a vibe that the forum is populated by a big happy exclusive family,
but in reality i think there are many cliques, rouge agents, and wondering retards, i simply dont post where i see the above cliquey crap. death by posting will only hurt your street cred with one group for the most part, so i think dying by posting is pretty hard without posting alot

I'd agree.  And it's not unique to this forum.  It's the case everywhere, especially forums where some people know each other in real life.  (This place is nothing compared to other forums I've been on.  The comics forum where regular wars broke out between the pro  and anti Gaiman factions being just one example).  And these things are fluid.  People crossover between cliques all the time.  And new people find themselves accepted in one group or another very quickly if they 'fit' right.  And old people alienate each other.

I just find the whole "shut up there are no cliques on here and all my friends agree" stuff darkly amusing.

I would have to read each of these threads myself and make my own determination about what was really happening in them before I could say anything. No offense, but if you are talking about actual threads that actually were posted here, I wouldn't trust anybody's brief summation of them because all of us, however rational and reasoned we may think we are, operate under bias and are capaple of misunderstanding intention or meaning and of making mistakes. Human condition. Nobody's exempt, not even the dominants. ;)

So assume I read all those threads (I haven't, but one or two sound vaguely familiar.) If I judged these people as genuinely correct in posting these things (having good reasons to post them, writing things that make sense, messages are lorgical, they're clearly clearly written from an atttitude that has no axe to grind, the posts had some positive effects, they were honest if blunt expressions of feeling, and so on) then I'd say that anyone they alienated with their posts was well worth not having as a friend. The idea that everyone would be alienated by these people (thus leading to death by posting) though is highly unlikely unless the person becomes a repetitious troll, and this forum, thank the gods, has very few of that sort. Even the most unpopularly expressed opinions tend to have quiet supporters. This is especially true if some of these posters are also regulars whose other messages tend to make a lot of sense.

Is it? I could think of a situation where admitting your mistake could be very bad indeed. Say theoretically you were the leader of the free world and you admitted spying on North Korea this could lead to War.
oh please. I am a wife, mom and submissive, among the other hats i wear. Save that "leader of the free world" crap for the political thread.

So you're not denying it......?

I think where the OP is concerned is she is perceiving death in terms of not being accepted by the gang she is part of while failing to recognize acceptance into that gang was never the intent in the first place.
Not everyone coming to these boards is searching for a counterpart, acceptance, or even diverseness in thinking’s. It is rather like going to a restaurant where the food is below your accustomed standard but time is limited and the restaurant is close. You appease the hunger while knowing you will dine later in far more elegant surroundings.

WOW... we have gangs here?

Are there hand signals? Is there an illustrated text that depicts these hand signals? Are there gang colours, aka, something I need to avoid wearing now? Are there clearly delineated turf boundaries? Should we have turf wars?

These are things we need to know!!

You do know what particular fluid shows up under a black light, don't you?

I'm not quite sure I'd want to find any, but the decoder ring sounds nice.

Why, yes, dear Lady, I do...  but shhh!  we can't let the others know that we know.

(by the way, if I send you a decoder ring, will that make you part of my "gang?")

Sure.  I keep getting told that I'm part of a clique, but I wasn't exactly sure of who the other members were.  Maybe the decoder ring will help.

Is it sparkly?

Lets not assume that all cliques are bad though. A bunch of positive people who get along well could be deemed as a clique and the trouble with cliques is, you often don't realize your in one until its too late!
I had one friend who deleted me from her friends list because I happened to question something she said on the forums. Just because I become familiar with someone on here that I happen to like or respect does not mean I have to agree and ass lick everything they say and I certainly don't want them to do that with me either.
About six months ago there were three people on here that would write something on a forum one after another. If the first one said something negative, then the other two would be along to join in within the hour. Steve and me used to wage bets on it and it was hilarious!. Its those such people that I have little respect for and remember well.

I don't know about death by posting.  There are threads that I post on because the subject matter interests me...the political threads (rarely...I'm too conservative and get burnt out quickly), the Ask a Master/Ask a Submissive sections (more but not as much as some), and the General Section (much more often)...or because I've come to know the people there (Holly and Potty Show).  I post what I feel and what I think.  Sometimes it is agreed with and sometimes it is disagreed with.  I occasionally learn something...e.g., it was several threads a couple of years ago that led me to a belief in the necessity for the rare physical punishment.  I don't deliberately set out to flame someone or to flame someone's ideas but if I disagree with something, I am not going to hold back for fear of insulting those who I disagree with.  I try to be civil even during the course of disagreement but one thing I have learned is that when someone disagrees with us, no matter how we couch what we are saying, some are going to see it as a flame job.  I don't agree with the idea of "tribute" overall BUT I have noted a difference in the way that femdominants who use it handle it.  One group and the way they use it I can respect while still disagreeing with it.  There is another group whose way of using it only solidifies not just my disagreement with it but my dislike of it and I have no problem if they don't like what I have to say about it.  If I am to be judged by those posts alone, then I am lost here.  Fortunately, judging by the small but select circle of people who've wanted me as a "friend" and by those who are my friends without being identified as such on my friends' list, my words and actions over a variety of threads is what I've been judged by.

Hello LadyPact

You are assuming that everyone agrees with your take on the threads. There may be people who think the posters were right and you were wrong. I have not read any of the threads you are using for examples but I have found, here on CM and life in general, that there is always an opposing view... Even if hard for reasonable people to understand.

Hello Butch,

The three threads that I referenced I was specifically thinking of due to the fact that there wasn't a whole lot of dissension in the way certain responses were received.  In the Ask A Mistress thread, the male subs with the less than stellar attitude were called on it by darn near every femdom that responded to the comments.  In fact, it was even spotted as the example that I was using for this thread and a rather bright male went back to that thread and used the death by posting phrase after this thread was created.

In the Ask A Submissive case (as you can guess) no one was in favor of a post created that related to outing someone.

In the last, having read the responses, no.  It was more like someone needing help with their drinking.

These weren't exactly soft and furry threads.  I was going for examples where it was pretty obvious that there wasn't a whole lot of agreement with said posters, at least from certain groups.  That's the angle I'm looking at.

Thank you for your view.
