This is a discussion i've had several time with other subs, and im wondering what most people think.
Dominants please feel free to add Your opinion too.

I have come to learn over many years that calling a Dominant or so called Dominant by what they call themselves, ie Lord, Master or Sir, when you are not their submissive, not realistic. I am in no way disrespectful, i was brought up in the south to use the utmost table manors, and yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am and no ma'am. Please and thank you. BUT when i have a Dominant in my life, it feels very awkward to call another, by that name. To me it's kinda like well Your my Master and if i call him Master than do i need to get on my knees and give him a blow-job too, or kneel at his feet...etc etc... So please tell me what your opinion is.

(btw) this probably should have been posted in the general section, but most of the great people i know are usually here.

You are right although some like the idea of identifying themselves as a submissive in a group situation. It doesn't mean they would do anything for anyone within that group just that they like the fantasy that they could be asked to. For this type of person the qualifications of the person calling themselves a dominant are irrelevant all they need is to imagine such a person has qualifications. Thus for them bestowing unwarranted praise is part of their fantasy. I’ve noticed this a lot and some have even tried to force titles upon me to facilitate their fantasy.

Two mornings in a row that I have to agree with holly - the world must be coming to an end.

The only person I call Master, Sir, Daddy, the Lord High Grand Poobah, whatever title you want to think about, is Lumus, my Husband. All others are considered like a standard nilla social setting and called by their first name or online - their user names. It doesn't matter that I've known this dominant for 10 years - he's still "Dave" to me, not Master or Sir. When I've gone to play parties or munches, it was still first name basis except in a few situations where the person was known by a nickname, like we had XO in the club, or Lord Ambrose, the president of the club. Same in California, everyone was first name except for Master Robin; the club owner.

But honey......the best thing I always found was to straight out talk with your Dominant before going anywhere and checking to see what HE wants you to call people, and make sure to explain your Southern nature. I was raised in a similar style so it took getting used to.....

I am of two separate mindsets on this. If it's a total stranger I usually will not address them in such a manner. Though there is a couple exceptions to this, if I am good friends with a dom's sub and the sub asked me to refer tot heir owner as Sir then I will do so. The other example is a good friend of mine whom I have a high level of respect for, I will and do refer to him as Sir C. Granted I am not his submissive, it has always been a term of respect and he is okay with me doing so.

I was chatting with a submissive yesterday and we agreed that honorifics are a useful screening mechanism. If some dingbat 'Dom' insists upon everyone addressing him by his title, you've just learned all about him (although there's at least one Domme dim enough to insist as well on cm) you need to know.

Okay i can see this say if your at a bdsm club or event....but normal day interactions with friends and strangers than i strongly disagree. If i have a Sir. Master whatever than to call Him that is well if He wants than fine, but other than that hell no.....

i wasn't raised to address adults as Sir or Ma'am ...i was allowed to call them by their first names even as a child.

I'm going with Bear on this one. Although it is not my normal stance to call people Sir or Ma'am, there are a rare few who have garnered enough respect over the years, they get these titles.

I do not, however, throw the term "Master" around. Although if introduced to someone as Master Jim, I would call that person Master Jim in a public setting, there is an implied understanding he is not *my* master. I'm firmly in the "you can only serve one" camp.
