Sanity -> MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 8:59:04 AM)

MSNBC showed a video of a black man with an assault rifle outside an Obama event - the only problem? MSNBC cropped the video so tightly that you couldn't tell that the guy was black, and then,

quote:

Following the shot of the African-American man focusing specifically on the gun, MSNBC host Contessa Brewer said that "you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waists or to their legs."

http://www.politico.com/blogs/michaelcalderone/0809/Righty_bloggers_slam_MSNBC_over_gun_clip_network_responds.html?showall

You can't make this kind of stuff up! (Unless you're a lefty, talking about FOX News, of course!!!)

[;)]

Obermann showed the full uncropped video of the guy:

olena -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 9:08:15 AM)

What does color have to do with it? Because he is black does that somehow mean all of America is against Obama or are all black people suppose to be zealot left wing Obama supporters? Or if there is one black person against Obama that must mean that none of this outlandish out there behavior of hatred for Obama could be racial motivated?

There were also two people that came to that particular event with assault rifles and only one was black.

Of course MSNBC is quite left bent. They learned from it from FOX News and FOX News should get most of the credit for the increasing polarization of the country and news reporting. They are the founders and still champions of it.

response - Your right, color should have had nothing to do with it, but for some reason Ms Brewer wanted it to be...Now her comment might have had some merit if they had just shown a white man with a gun, but they didn't did they? "MSNBC host Contessa Brewer said that "you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waists or to their legs."

There were also two people that came to that particular event with assault rifles and only one was black.

response - Again, I agree color had nothing to do with it.

Of course MSNBC is quite left bent. They learned from it from FOX News and FOX News should get most of the credit for the increasing polarization of the country and news reporting. They are the founders and still champions of it.

response - of course, the other guy did it first, so it's ok. I am so getting sick of that for an answer to everything.

olena -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 9:23:45 AM)

I use to be of the mind that one should rise above it and other news networks should not stoop to FOX’s level but FOX has been around enough and done enough damage to the truth of what is happening in life that turning the other cheek is often preached so the bullies of the world can control and manipulate. So if you cannot beat them you might as well join them since FOX will blame them anyway for doing it so they might as well do it.

I also do not get FOX supporters who complain about these tactics being used to promote anti FOX agendas. I mean I get anti FOX people who want to take the high road but FOX people who complain are just giant hypocrites. When I mean FOX supporters I mean people who buy into blatant lies and misleading things that FOX does even if one is getting them second or third hand.

You're kidding right?

Your second link disputes what you are implying with your first link.

Both from MSNBC.

And I'm getting sick of those who do nothing but defend the most blatantly biased network on the air by claiming the rest of the media has a "liberal bias" so turnabout is fair play.

Just like the ridiculous charge here.

If you can argue that the initial story was done purposely to ignore the man's race then you certainly have to acknowledge it was more than corrected by Olbermann's broadcast.

Arpig -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 9:37:53 AM)

Looks like some folks at MSNBC are as stupid as some folks at Fox....six of one, half a dozen of another. This is why I don't watch either of those networks.

The original cropped MSNBC video was very carefully worded, they referenced "white people with guns strapped to their hips" of which there were apparently several...they never claimed there was white people carrying semi-automatic rifles over their shoulders. They certainly implied it, and in the end they were skirting the very edge of journalistic ethics. While they didn't actually lie, they should be ashamed all the same. What they did was not reporting the news, it was spinning the news, something that both MSNBC and Fox do far too often.

That's the same clip Sanity posted. And it doesn't change that the original clip certainly was edited to hide the fact that it was a black man with the gun, just as it was very carefully written to imply the man in question was a white racist without actually saying so.
Lets call a spade a spade. Bullshit journalism is bullshit journalism no matter who does it.

Care to show me where I was defending fox? And yes I still think it was the reporter that was trying to make it about race. Had she been smart she would have gotten a good shot of one of the white guys carrying a gun, but she didn't. She zoomed in on the camera and tried to make it into a race issue.

Yes it is, because I thought surely you had missed seeing it.

Why would they intentionally edit the first clip to conceal he was black and then have Olbermann go on and make no secret of the fact?

By the way, here's the proud leader who organized this, Ernest Hancock, and his loyal followers of Freedom's Phoenix:

A very good question...why did they edit the first clip to hide the race of the gun-toting guy and talk about white racists? And why did they then later on a different show play a different clip that revealed the guy to be a black guy (and thus rather obviously not a white racist, as they implied in the first clip)? Another good question...however I think I amswered both questions in my original post: "Looks like some folks at MSNBC are as stupid as some folks at Fox".

Face it, if a journalism student had pulled the same thing in a project he/she would have failed and gotten a stern lecture about journalistic ethics. Like I said before, I don't watch either of those entertainment channels. I do watch CNN sometimes (rarely these days unless I feel like some light distraction or the latest on the celebrity front). For news...actual news, I watch the CBC and the BBC. They still report the news rather than spin it.

MSNBC vs Fox....more and more they are flip sides of the same coin

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 11:23:46 AM)

You really see nothing wrong with the MSNBC report from the first link?

Brain -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 12:09:53 PM)

I don’t think anybody should be allowed to take guns to these events. It’s too dangerous, there are too many people there to have guns and all it takes is one whacko to cause a major tragedy.

I trust Keith Olbermann to tell the truth and as far as firing Contessa Brewer is concerned, she is a very hot hottie and she reads the news just fine, no way do I support firing her hot ass.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 12:11:03 PM)

Brain -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 12:17:38 PM)

I don't see anything significantly wrong with the first link because the truth is most of the people who bring guns to these events are white.

Brain -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 12:27:03 PM)

And another thing, I almost forgot bringing guns to these events has nothing to do with healthcare. It is nothing but intimidating healthcare supporters. That’s why they bring their guns. Well you know what? It’s not working! Read the article below.

New Poll: 77 Percent Support "Choice" Of Public Option

More than three out of every four Americans feel it is important to have a "choice" between a government-run health care insurance option and private coverage, according to a public opinion poll released on Thursday.
