Really? It was deceitful and deliberately misleading, and as I said earlier would have gotten any journalism student an F. The fact that it was done on a major network (even a pseudo-news network) only stands as an example of just how far the news business has fallen.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 3:14:00 PM)

Thank you Arpig.

Arpig -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 3:39:37 PM)

Your welcome Sanity, however keep in mind I have a similarly low opinion of Fox's idea of news as well. They are both infotainment networks who concentrate on spin and sensationalism over facts. Not unlike the tabloids in the heyday of yellow journalism.

You really see nothing wrong with the MSNBC report from the first link?

My take is you are making a point about MSNBC bias, but it is the same station that is showing the black guy in the second clip.

rightwinghippie -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 3:56:24 PM)

Arpig, would you have any specific examples of such shenanigans from Fox, preferably from a news program not a commentary, as this MSNBC piece was or Dan Rather airing the obviously fake documents.

Arpig -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 4:09:13 PM)

Thanks DK. Since I don't watch it, I really had nothing to post.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 4:10:32 PM)

Hannity, Beck, and O'Reilly are commentary shows, DomKen.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 4:15:36 PM)

Gretchen Carlson obviously misspoke, she meant 2% rather than two, or she otherwise had her figures wrong.

Show us where FOX has falsified video, like MSNBS.

~ Fast Reply ~

Why anyone would use FOX, CNN, or MSN as the sole source of news and information? They are first and foremost 24/7 editorial sources. Fit places to go for head-bobbers, needing confirmation when they find themselves insecure. Very little they provide is raw data, and even then, it usually comes with some discounting or false importance, contingent on the desired philosophy they want to impart. They are no place to form an opinion, and I only watch them when there is 'news'; switching back and forth dependent only upon who isn't in commercial and who has the best employment of cameras.

Similar to baseball umpires, when the news 'reporter' or commentator's name is as well know as the story he/she is reporting; their reporting should come with a disclaimer of some sort.

Is anyone representing that any of these commercial 'news' sources are unbiased? They are all PBS - without the 'subscriber fund drives'.

rightwinghippie -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 4:28:47 PM)

I specifically asked for an example of News coverage, and every single one you posted DK was a commentarry show.

Arpig, would you mind taking a look at the one he posted on end of life counciling. Do you actually agree that there is blatant lying of the sort in the MSNBC news clip.

At least the Media Matters clips are un edited and in relative context, unlike DailyKOS TV, which I just can't give any validity to an edited clip from them.

Arpig would you agree with DK that GC saying 2 transactions occurred in MN, when it was 2%, was an "outright, knowing lie"? Then corrected the next night, to be the same sort of thing? It's an old trick of Bias, Tell a lie on the front page, then a small correction a few days later on page 15. Gretchen corrected it her self in the same show (equivilant of page).

Arpig -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 4:45:08 PM)

Well said Merc. They are not valid news sources. They are valid sources for getting the latest spin put on events by either side, but that`s about it. I find CNN less biased, but it seems to be pretty much a celebrity gossip network these days, very little real news on there anymore.
One phenomenon I have noticed that is really perplexing is how much time these two spend reporting what was reported on the other....the news coverage itself has become the news. Edward R.Murrow must be turning in his grave.

Arpig -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 5:29:33 PM)

I have no idea when Gretchen corrected herself,it isn't in any of the clips presented. As far as the MSNBC clip being a lie...they didn't lie, as I pointed out they were very careful not to lie about anything (damn good writers). They did imply things that were not supported by the clip they used, it was deceitful, but it was not a lie. The Fox and Friends clip did contain a few factually incorrect statements, and thus they actually did lie. They need better writers I guess.

You are wasting your time trying to convince me that one is worse than the other, neither is a news channel, neither is unbiased, and neither is a valid source of factual information. They both suck. I don't watch either. As I have said before if you want to see what a news channel looks like watch the CBC or the BBC.

That waterfall looks cool.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 7:53:27 PM)

Way cool.

Those are the Paulina Creek Falls, which are down a short cliff side trail in a little canyon below a campground  in Central Oregon.

The water going over the falls moves kinda slow through Paulina Lake before it gets to the falls, and Paulina Lake is one of two medium sized lakes in the caldera of the Newberry Volcano, so the water there is clean and cold, but not glacially cold. It's just absolutely perfect on a hot summer day.

Yes, it's very nice down in there, as nice as it looks.

What's bad about the MSNBC clip is that they had to mask the video, not just clip it.

It was doctored.

But my main point in this is, we have all been warned that Fox News is the work of the devil, and that we'll be instantly possessed with demons forever if we even watch a minute of it, just once.

But how many people are aware that CNN and MSNBC and ABC and CBS and Reuters and AP and the New York Times and PBS and the BBS all have far left agendas, and that they push twisted agendas of hate and bull shit and lies?

This is just one small example of many that are out there that I can provide, but I don't know what a tit-for-tat will really prove, if anything. People just have to open their eyes and not believe everything that they see or hear on whatever information providers they choose to tune into, and that its good to vary it and do some checking once in a while with some third party analysts.

rulemylife -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 8:17:21 PM)

Well, that settles it.

You've convinced me.

Every major news outlet is liberally biased and we can only rely on Fox to give us the true story in a fair and balanced fashion.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...............Joe the Plumber......who they later hired as a foreign correspondent and had to let go, right away.

They knew who the fuck he was......don't be so fucking ignorant, Sanity, 'cause I so know you fuckin' ain't.

Sanity -> RE: MSNBC's Blatant Lies and Bias (8/21/2009 8:20:38 PM)

I don't pay any attention to anything put out by DailyKos. Nobody does, do they? They deal in absolute  garbage, they're the bottom of the barrel.

Keith Oberman has more integrity. Chris Mathews isn't as biased...
