I agree Jeff, when applied to human relationships or human orientation most terms are fluid and complex, even ones you think should be clear cut, for example my lesbian friend who is marrying her boyfriend in a few weeks. People take words and run with them, it doesn't matter if you are a sub or a slave or a dom or a domme or a giant pink sausage what you call yourself is unimportant at the end of the day you are just a person trying to make yourself as happy as you can be

Exactly.

And if the thread were about finding such a dom vs. defining the submissive, I'd say forget the labels and seek the man--then follow and obey.

For example, what "slave" means is far less important than "What would being a slave to this person mean?"

I have to admit, I do not see why the term submissive wouldn't already cover this.  Between all of the 'may or may not be a part of' examples listed, it could be applied to almost anyone within a dynamic where one party has more authority than the other party.  There's no need to create even more words to attempt to describe a dynamic.  It's enough for most people to take certain terms and realize the nuances of definition as they apply it to themselves.

Well, if it has to be a term on it's own; hows about JuneCleaver, or one-of-a-kind-bitch?

Linguistically charming,

Ron

after another moments pause:

How's about 'The Beave'?

so create your own word for it...it's not like you would be explaining it any LESS than folks who already explain what the word "submissive" or "slave" means, specifically, to them.

the continuing American perversion of the English language sort of relies on "new" words being created all the time, doesn't it?  so why not make up your own word if the ones in the dictionaries don't it for you?

I'm sure defining the term free companion is like defining slave or sub.

Not among Goreans.

You'd have to define Gorean. :-)

Seriously,  I agree with LadyPact: It's enough for most people to take certain terms and realize the nuances of definition as they apply it to themselves.

Confucius says that all words are random without other words surrounding them.

OK he didn't say that but he should have damnit.

I propose we call it bob.  It seems to work for radio stations that want to play things their way.
