Now to my questions:

Do you agree that there is more than one kind of switch?

Yes definitely.

If so do you agree with my switch categories, or do you have your own?

I do agree with your categories, though I'd add a few, but since that's the next question...

Are there some categories I've yet to identify?

I'd say I'm a gender based switch. I'm in a LTR (engaged to be married) to a man, and when I'm looking for a man to commit to I always, always look for a dominant man. Once I'm with a dominant man I can have fun dominating submissive men if the mood strikes me, as long as it's not sexual play, but I can't enjoy doing that unless I belong to a dominant man who I love.

With women on the other hand...I'd say I'm about 95% heterosexual, but that 5% of me that is attracted to women is also very dominant. I would never submit to a woman, but I have a lot of fantasies about dominating one in a threesome type thing...ie holding her head while my fiance rapes her throat, or helping him to tie her up and being his torturer's assistant. So I'd say mostly my switchiness is along gender lines. With men, I love to be the submissive. With women, I will only be the dominant.

Also I'd say another distinction should be drawn between switches who stick to one role with one partner and a different role with another, and switches who switch between roles with the same partner.

This thread's interesting! Thanks for posting it.

greetings to all,

Yes, I agree that there is more than one type of switch personality.  I am a firm believer in "different strokes for different folks".

I haven't truly thought about it; I know that I am just who I am (a definite "beta" personality, who will submit to alpha males, and dominate beta ones; I also tend to be dominant over women, regardless of whether they are alpha or beta personalities themselves).

I don't honestly know if you've forgotten any categories of switches; I've not ever given much thought to the fact that there may be different categories myself; I've been too busy discovering my personal truth, and just being who I am.

well wishes,

There are many different types of switches, but I don't think it's possible to define them in any rigid way. Many "switches" see "dominance" and "submission" as relative attributes. They will act in a dominant way towards those they see as more submissive than themselves, and vice versa. Many switches simply do enjoy both roles and choose whichever is most readily available at a particular time. There are also many persons who take both roles without being true switches. For instance, many dominants will wish to experience being beaten, just to know what it feels like to a submissive, so they can do it more effectively. Or they take a sort of pride in being able to say they don't inflict any punishments they have not themselves endured. Many persons will switch temporarily out of a strong desire to please a particular partner. Some switch occasionally from mere curiosity. Some "switches" are simply thrill seekers who want the maximum variety of sensual experience. Terms such as dominant, submissive, switch are useful shorthand, a simple way of describing our interests, but we shouldn't take such terms too seriously.

One of the more interesting categories of pseudoswitch is the person who is primarily submissive, but who chooses to take on the dominant role in order to please a lover or spouse who is submissive. Of course, that raises the question of who's really dominating whom. That's always a good question, in any dominant/submissive relationship, but the issue isn't really so obvious. Dominance/submission offer a limitless supply of paradoxes. For many, that's probably part of the allure.
