It's funny. I would have thought that you guys could find a less harmless figure to crystallise your hate upon than a middle-aged lady who lost her son to a useless war.

This thread demonstrates how much some of you warmongers need to redefine your spiritual priorities.

I agree Loki. Her behavior is something her son would not have liked.

Oh, you knew her son, did you?

Said the person who just engaged in the type of "board guerilla tactics" she's rolling her eyes at.

What's funny to me, though, is that you have no trouble fighting against "guerilla tactics" on an internet message board, but you're somehow against the U.S. fight against known enemies who use the same tactics to murder innocent people.

Talk about mixed up priorities.

Ok, so she's against the war. She speaks out on that opinion, as is her constitutional right. I did my time in the service, in defense of the Constitution that guarantees that right of those that occaisionally didn't support the policies that sent me wherever to say so. I would rather have some dissent at home, the free speaking of opinion, than the alternative. I may not always agree WITH their opinions, but bless 'em for expressing them, it makes it all worth it.

She expressed her opinion. I expressed mine. Funny how that works as well, ain't it?

I feel sorry for her son, to have his memory and sacrifice pissed on by her continued antics. He joined up because it was something he believed in. He paid the ultimate price. And she's done nothing but piss on his memory and his sacrifice ever since.

Since she lost her son, she has every right to express her views on the war. You think she hasnt made a sacrifice too, really ?

Edited for spelling

Lots of people lose people. But she is choosing to piss on her son's sacrifice and service by what she's doing. He KNEW we were at war when he joined. He KNEW he was going to fight. And he did so because he believed in it. She has since used his death for attention to speak out against what he believed in.

If I am not mistaken, her husband left her because her views on the war were not what their son was over there fighting for and not what he would have wanted. This is an all volunteer force. He enlisted to go there for a reason.

I hadn't heard that, but it doesn't surprise me in the least. If I had a son die in a war that he (and I) believed in and my wife started using that death to push her contrary agenda...the marriage would definitely be over. (We'll chalk this up to another reason I don't plan on ever getting married.)

FR...

its not about her right to do anything...

Its how the media covered her visits to Crawford and The Vineyard

AND

the subplot of course is the way The Democrats used the Peace Movement

I wonder how long it will take for her to realise that she was just being used by the democrats and the liberal press. They tossed her to the side like yesterdays newspaper.

"I have tried ever since he died to make his sacrifice meaningful," she wrote. "Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months".

I'm gonna have to agree w/her on that point.

Personally, I'd rather see proof of that statement. Just because something isn't talked about constantly doesn't mean people don't care. People choose to watch and focus on things like TV because it distracts them from the reality they face daily.

Since her son believed in what he was fighting for, I find it very disingenuous of her to claim she's giving his death meaning by what she's doing.

It's funny to me that people like her are perfectly fine with the status quo as long as it doesn't affect them. She didn't have one peep of protest when he joined up, but now that he's gone, she's jumping in front of any camera crew that will give her two seconds of airplay.

It was the same way with the woman who started MADD. She couldn't give a rat's ass that other people's loved ones where dying because of drunk drivers, but when it was *her* loved one, THEN something more just *had* to be done.

How the fuck do you know what she may or may not have told her son before he even signed up on the dotted line? The fact is, you have absolutely no idea, and yet you stand here on your imaginary ivory tower, behind the barricade the Internet provides you with, erecting yourself in moral judgement of a woman who lost her son to the stupidest war that was declared by one of this country's most vapid leader.

You said:

Are you fucking kidding? Her son died! "Doesn't affect them" indeed  . Tell me how it feels when the fruit of your loins carks it in Iraq.

Loki , HIstory especially recent history is chock full of causes that were started by people, not just women, who didnt care/know until it affected them personally. You simply cannot be aware of all the inconsistencies in life until they happen to you or someone you care about. Thats how most causes start.
I dont know the case of Cindy or her son, but as a parent the worst thing that can happen  is to lose a child. You simply cannot predict how you will feel until the worst happens. Or what directionthat anger and sadness and heartbreak will take you.

No, I don't know what she said to her son. But I sure don't recall seeing her setting up camp outside Bush's ranch until *after* he died. People were dying long before her son. In your post, you appeared to mock how this country seems to care more about American Idol than those dying over there. Well, I'd suggest she was one of those people. She didn't give a rat's ass until it was *her* son who died. Until then, she was just another voter for the next "Idol."

The better question is are *you* kidding *me*? Apparently you need to re-read what I wrote. And then re-read what I said above. This woman clearly didn't care one bit about the *other* people already dying over there. She only began to care when it was *her* son that died. Like I said...disingenuous.

I'm aware of that, Lucy. However, I'm simply pointing out, in response to kitten, that this woman wasn't unlike any one of us. She didn't join the 'peace movement' until it personally affected her. I've seen MANY protesters who do what they do without having lost anyone in this war.

One more thing, kitten. In response to your continued reference to the "un-neccessary" nature of this war. Since Sept. 11, 2001, the terrorists have been fighting us on *their* turf, as opposed to ours. They've been taking losses as great as, if not greater than our own.

When you continue to call this war 'un-neccessary,' I can't help but wonder. Did you enjoy Sept. 11, 2001? Would you like something like that to occur again? Because, of all the bone-headed things Bush did while he was in charge, the undeniable truth is that the terrorists have an awfully hard time hitting us like that again when they are busy fighting us on their own soil.

I guess you'd prefer to fight them here? Because let me say this as clearly as I can, those people who think it's justifiable to bring down civilian buildings, killing thousands of citizens who are *not* soldiers....they don't want "peace" with us. They never have. They are not going to be convinced one day that "oops, they made a mistake" and we're really "nice people" they want to be friends with. It ain't gonna happen. If you gave those people a nuke tomorrow, we would lose a city the following day. Of that you can be sure.

So *you* can sit there behind the anonymity the internet grants you and claim all you like about this war. The fact is, we would be fighting this war whether we were 'over there' or not. The difference is, if we weren't fighting it 'over there,' we'd be fighting it 'over here.' You're apparently fine with that.

I'm not.
