That's awfully simplistic, isn't it? That's literally like saying that Obama's policy is to destroy the economy and explode the deficit.

Newt Gingrich and the Republican class of '94 had a heavy hand in Clinton's budgets, and Reagan having unleashed free market forces helped, as well as his hand in winning the Cold War which provided one hell of a peace dividend.

In other words, the Clinton economy was a lot more complicated than you're letting on.

Okay.  How about Clinton's policies, which were to try to grow the economy and balance the budget?  I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY businesses that wouldn't be happy to trade Bush's economic policies for Clinton's.

Sanity, I agree that the economy under Clinton was the result of many factors. At the same time I remember Clinton taking all of the credit for the economy being what it was under his administration. If the same logic Clinton used is applied to the current administration, then all of the problems we face now are Obama's fault and he cannot be viewed as a fiscal conservative. At the same time it cannot be fully blamed on the Bush administration either since the last two years he was in office Congress was under Democrat control.

The economy is always more complicated than any administration is willing to admit. Any reasonable discussion not only has to look at what actions were taken by the administration in office, but the actions taken by Congress, the actions taken by previous administrations and Congresses, as well as any outside factors like natural disasters, terror attacks, and wars.

Hello airborne92, and welcome to the forums.

I agree with what you wrote except I'd add this - G.W. Bush never vetoed a single spending bill, so the deficits that accrued under his watch were indeed his responsibility.

Bush was no fiscal Conservative, I'll be the first to admit it. A big spending Liberal is more like it.

I am not arguing in defense of Bush, just making a point. There are many things Bush did that I do not agree with. I do respect him for what he tried to do,which was do what he thought was right for this country based on the circimstances he faced while in office. I am not saying he was successful, or even right in his choices. Only that I respect him for trying. I respect that Obama is trying to do the same, even though I disagree with most of what he stands for.

Back to the original question.  There is no way that Obama is fiscally conservative.  I do not believe that any of our Presidents have been fiscally responsible.  Take a look at Social Security and Medicare.

In the early 1960's President Johnson  "borrowed" money to help pay for the war in Viet Nam.  Every President since then without exception has raided the social security surpluses to pay for one thing after another.  This has been to the tune of more than 180 billion dollars a year.  None of this money has ever been repaid.  The total the federal government owes to Social Security and Medicare is 2.4 trillion dollars.  These funds could have been earning interest for the last 50 years.

This is not our tax dollars.  This is money that belongs to we the people.  This is a part of our retirement benefits.  How many other business and individuals have been prosecuted for taking peoples money?  Enron.  Madoff.  So why do we allow our government to do the same at will with no fear of reprisal?

I agree, and that is why we need to ask hard questions of our Represenatives and Senators. If they aren't willing to give straight answers, which most are not, then they need to be prosecuted for violating the oath they swore and crimes against the citizens of this country. Too many, both Democrat and Republican, are lying to the American people and are guilty of various crimes, but are never prosecuted because they are in office.
