ORIGINAL: SpinnerofTales quote:
Well I think this is where indoctrination comes in. I know it's a "dirty word" but, kids need to be taught in no uncertain terms what a civil society requires of them, a secular ethics, if you will, and they need to be taught logic in grade school, so they're not such mush heads when emotion and hormones (and later, politicians) try to crank them up. ORIGINAL: Kirata We're not in disagreement on this matter. The dumbing down of America is an amazingly wide ranging and consequence filled problem. I see, on both sides of the equation, a total lack or either civic responsibility or logic in most issues right now. But another aspect of the problem is that the power structure is reaping the benefits of this situation and have no stake in changing it. agreed, mass confusion and a lack of knowledge about politics helps both parties keep a firm foothold in the political arena. educating children on the workings of US politics can only be a bonus. how many times did i have to explain what is required by US law for a bill to become a law? its amazing how even the simplest of facts are often ignored in education.
