I argued on behalf of the lesser of two liberals, rml. How long are you going to go on trying to tell me what it is that I believe?

Look up the polls yourself. The last president whose approval rating dropped this quickly was Gerald Ford immediately after he pardoned Nixon.

There's a clue-by-four for you, but I seriously doubt that it will help.

A lot of people are starting to wake up and realize that we've put a radical in the White House. Not everyone, but that's to be expected. There will always be a few who remain faithful even in the face of overwhelming evidence, and those people will deny the reality of the situation 'til the bitter end.

Ok

Show me the overwhelming evidence that is clearly factual.

No, I'm going to tell you what you said.

Which is the beauty of the CM archives that we can present people with their own quotes, and point out how they have altered their views, even when they deny it after the fact.

[;)]  Here's another clue-by-four for you - my old quote that you posted didn't show me supporting McCain, it showed me laughing about how popular a real conservative was in comparison to McCain...

What you posted proved my consistency on the subject!

Still, when it came to Bush vs. Gore, or Bush vs. Kerry, or McCain vs. Obama, I had only those two choices.

Voting third party only helps the one who you despise most...

So in those elections I threw my weight behind the candidates who would drag us into the fire the slowest - Bush and McCain.

You get it?

The poll numbers don't show me we have put a radical in the White House.

No.

So what you are saying is you vehemently supported people you did not really agree with.

No Sanity, what you've done, like so many conservatives on this board, many who claim themselves Independents when they constantly espouse GOP talking points, is to support what you now claim to have disagreed with.

SpinnerofTales -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/7/2009 9:50:50 AM)

It seems there are a whole lot of people calling themselves conservatives who aren't, according to the "real" conservatives. Maybe you guys should see a lawyer about stopping all these lying bastards from abusing the good name that has been so carefully established by the radical right wing.

You know, I get the same feeling when someone says "But he's not a REAL conservative" as when others on the other areas of this board start pontificating about how x or y isn't a "REAL submissive"

The "radical right wing".

Hmm.

They anything like nazis or commies, Spinner?

I'd agree; the actions and disclosure of agenda do which in turn generated the polls.

Tell you what would be a more difficult task - point to one thing coming from this administration that wouldn't be considered on the left wing radical side of the spectrum.

You've got to appreciate you've got a hell of a battle to fight rml. Damn, I bet you'd with McCain and Sarah were elected, maybe then your posts would be relevant for more than just to serve as an attempt to distract from the sad reality which represents this Administration.

But cheer up; tomorrow he can draw upon the 'victim' card; looking pitiful as he gives wonderfully scripted and delivered speech. Its resemblance to the intended "What can you do for the President" version long since shredded and burned. Then there is Wednesday's prime time special on Health-care. You think it will build on his exclusionary last comment of; "Republicans get out of the way..." or will he work the "can't we all just get along?" angle? Either form of rhetoric doesn't change the reality. As currently constitute Obama and his party can pass any damn legislation they want with impunity. Given the representation prior to the recess of this being "critical" what is the delay?

You'll most likely say that's because Democrats distinguish themselves as not always voting along party lines. But point to one of those 'thinking Democrats' who do so in direct contrast to those polling numbers you previously found irrelevant.

Except usually in this section of CM, its usually employed when the liberal, conservative, democrat, republican, needs to use it in an attempt to avoid focus on the issue; like this case. Better to name call and say "no you're not!". Much easier than staying on point or making a counter argument, when your side (whichever it is) doesn't have one.

This sounds like something that could have been said in 2003.

As much as I enjoy debating you as well, Merc, it is my turn to call a heartfelt BULLSHIT.

First, I have enough respect for your intelligence to believe you can tell the difference between saying to a young student "How can I help the President" and "What can I do for the President" in the context of any civics discussion. The question wasn't "What can I do for Obama?" or "How can I serve Obama?" it was "How can I help the president?". I don't believe I would find that question inappropriate no matter who was in office.

Second, it is a very easy tactic to claim that his speech will be inoffensive and appropriate BUT it wasn't the speech he was going to give. It is a very easy thing to claim that the speech he INTENDED to give was laced with "Serve me. Worship me. I am Obama". We could also claim that, had the situation not been exposed he would have chanted "Hail Satan" in pig Latin for forty five minutes. In both cases, the "He would have done something terrible if we hadn't preempted it is not a very good advancement of a position.

As it is, I see different things than you do. You can decry "Damage Control" all you like. I personally see it as a man who can take feedback on a range of things and modify them to improve them. I think that far better than those who will stick to an idea or policy like a bulldog and never make a change.

If that's true, if people were starting to think we'd put a radical in the White House in 2003, then why did Kerry lose to Bush at the end of the following year?

The fact is, we're a center right nation, and Bush and Kerry and Gore and Clinton and Obama, all ran as centrists, except Bush may have presented himself as slightly center right. Republicans have been trending left for a long time now, and the Democrats have been trending left for a long time now, and SURPRISE - the country is going to hell.

In this mornings news China is 'alarmed' by US money printing:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/6146957/China-alarmed-by-US-money-printing.html

And a double dip recession (depression?)  is, according to many, becoming increasingly likely:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/6147211/Barack-Obama-accused-of-making-Depression-mistakes.html

As a nation I think there's a growing consensus that we've moved too far left and that our formerly trusted media elites have been neglecting to vette our politicians in any meaningful fashion, and we are due for a correction.

At least, I hope we are.

Actually, as I read the polls, Sanity, the country is losing a bit of faith in Obama's policies, although they still like him personally. Additionally, while democratic policies have been losing approval points, republican policies haven't been gaining any major approval lifts. So we have is three and a half years for the economy to rebound, some resolution or progress to occur in Iraq and Afghanistan and for the republicans to jump out of bed with the rabid Sarah Palin right and come up with a) some new ideas and b) a viable candidate.

So temper your glee. This course correction is not as certain or as beneficial as you seem to think.

Personally, I like the idea of deciding on an administration with the general rule "Is my life better now than it was four years ago." We still have a ways to go before we can or have to answer that question.

Ummm...the pathetic attempt at health care reform which is really nothing more than a weak attempt at insurance reform that does nothing to address the problems in American healthcare maybe? I have said it before and I am pretty sure I will have to say it again. Obama is not a radical left wing politician, he is a slightly right of centre politician. A truely left wing radical would have nationalized the banks instead of bailing them out with loans.
