We have a really good school education program in our district, and we voted in a better food program in schools, with no soda or dessert. The thing is our community ALWAYS votes to increase taxes to pay more for these things that are good for our kids. However I am also being educated to teach and there are many common horror stories about districts not far from ours, where the kids are always hungry, because there isn't enough food, and they have to deal with other life horrors like their brother's friend was gunned down the other day. It is very difficult for these teachers to not be an emotional basketcase, and almost impossible for the kids to forget their hunger and their lives to focus on school. Why are children in the U.S. going hungry, when we clearly have so much food here, that we ship it to other countries? ANd of course they pay the teachers almost nothing.

So he is against the takeover of the media in Rawanda by one tribe, thus cutting off the voice of the tribe to whom they are exacting genocide. And he supports Chavez who apparently didn't get to state his case to anyone but the Latinos in his area, if that much, but still won the vote by 56%. Apparently the gov't in the U.S. feels he is evil for keeping his own power when they tried to oust him and others tried as well. But apparently the people he represents like him quite a bit, but he isn't taking orders from America (Bush), which is probably a wise choice. I would think a diversity Czar needs to keep apprised and opinionated on world events. So what is the deal? Where are the desparaging words? OK, you can make a ridiculous statement to try to divert Arpig. Thats great. Chavez has been threatening his neighbors, making tight with Putin, Arming revolutionary groups, in his neighbors. Silencing dissent, killing protestors, ect Is Human Rights watch an acceptable source? I can find more if not. Which again, does absolulty nothing to adress the fact that he currently is a massive Human Rights Violator. But you get a dig in at the USA...Interesting. America silences Dissent? Kills protestors? Am I correct in assuming you don't mind his Human Rights Violations, because he is anti American?

I am not studying current events in school, so my lack of knowledge about Chavez has no bearing on our school system. Nice leap, but it was into the abyss. I have no idea why Chavez is doing what he is doing, but I do know that Bush called anyone against him, or saying anything against him a terrorist. I also know that the Patriot act allows a person to be detained on suspicion, without any evidence, for three days, without any charges being brought, and the right to search my home without a warrant or probable cause. And they are allowed to tap my phone and email if I am a suspected terrorist. And what do I have to do to be a suspected terrorist? Oh yes, say anything against the President. SO Arpig is correct. THe GOv't has bought up of our News Stations. (see if you can find anything Pro Dem on Fox. I am sure the Repubs feel the same way about MSNBC reporting their side.) Interesting that you feel that a fellow who is voted in at 56% and reclaimed his seat twice (once when Bush tried to take it, then again more recently) is evil for enforcing his power, when Bush behaves similarly.

Presumably the US wouldn't sell him any, so he turned to another country that would. And as to joint exercises, well why not hold joint exercises with one's allies? The US does this every year, both with Canada in North America and with NATO in Europe. There is nothing wrong with either thing, other than the fact that one is a leftist with anti-American views (which would have nothing to do with the fact that the US tried to depose him, now would it?) and the other is Putin...who I am not entirely sure why he is a bad guy, but apparently he is, and being friendly with him is somehow similar to being a client of the USSR.

Arpig, which is a perfect illustration of your previous assertion that Canada is like our "retarded little brother", which depends on the US to take care of it. So your happy, to depend on us for security. But you have a problem with us trying to prevent a massive human rights violator from forming a millitary alliance and bringing the Russian army into our back yard. You like taking advantage of the free security we provide, but complain when we provide it... And if you paid any attention to history, Chavez was anti American long before he got any power at all.

As I pointed out in the Chavez hijack thread before it slipped down the page, I am not complaining about anything, I am merely pointing out that there is nothing particularly sinister about anything that you are accusing Chavez of doing. He is no greater an abuser of human rights than was Pinochet or the Argentine Junta, or Somosa, or Batista for that matter...none of whom were considered a threat.The only difference I can see between Chavez and a long line of Latin American dictators is the fact that he is a lefty and that he dislikes the US. He is doing exactly what the US taught Latin American rulers to do...he's following your own playbook word for word (well except for the getting elected thing...that's his own twist). And to be 100% honest, I am do not feel in the slightest bit threatened by Venezuela, nor by there being Russian military participating with them for exercises.
