Sanity -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 11:41:37 AM)

Shortly after the White House told Democrats that the White House would  'Punch back twice as hard'  at the town hall events SEIU-related violence and other disruptions and anomalies began occurring at various town halls across the land.

A mere coincidence? Depends on how gullible you are, I suppose.

My other links established connections between the SEIU and Obama and documented some of that town hall violence. As I said before, there is a lot more information out there, but I'm not going to track it all down for you primarily because there has been enough evidence posted in this thread and other various threads to convince those who aren't burdened with the sort of blind faith that Obama seems to inspire.

Rich contributed this link which shows video of SEIU goons attacking a black conservative protester, and when you look into the incident three union members were charged over it.

quote:

Citation 1: In a meeting of proponents of healthcare reform, David Alexrod urged supporters to make sure they were well prepared for the town hall meetings, mobilized fellow supporters and said "If we get hit, we will punch back twice as hard"...this of course didn't mean countering the opposition's arguments with more emphatic counter arguments. This is, as you point out, a code for "We will bus in union goons to bust heads".

GotSteel : And if the perjury is denying receiving a blow job, that was received, does that not mean that the impeachment was about a blowjob? Does 1+1 not =2 anymore? And the point of the blowjob question and the "proof" of the dress, was simply to prove he was a sexual deviant capable of sexual harassment on Linda Tripp, which was the actual crux of the impeachment. The accusation was sexual harassment in the workplace, but really, has anyone seen Linda Tripp? WHo would bother there? He was probably just trying to make her feel pretty, and she had never experienced that before. I bet she accuses men in bars of sexual harassment too, now that she hs a new face and boobs.
Personally, I would deny any extramarital sex if it would bring shame and embarrassment to my wife and kid. it's just a blowjob.

Your facts are wrong. Paula Jones NOT Linda Tripp filed a sexual harassment lawsuit. Linda Tripp's lawsuit was of a completely different nature. Allegations that he exposed himself to a non consenting employee (Paula Jones) and raped Elizabeth Gracen are more than just a blowjob.

You might well be right, Spinner. It's also possible that this tactic DID in fact come from the highest levels, and I'm completely wrong in suggesting it was a figurative reference. The SEIU was showing up all over the place for a little while. ORIGINAL: TheHeretic

It is also possible that lawn gnomes are whispering orders into union leader's ears suggesting that they send their membership to kidnap conservatives and paint them iridescent purple so that the mothership can find them and take them back to the planet Trafalmadore. In both cases, unless there is some shred of evidence to back it up, I am not going to be overly quick to take it seriously. I feel that this is as much a naked, false accusation as the "government death panel" nonsense that was being thrown around until it was conclusively disproved.

Further, as you mentioned in your own post, the SEIU was showing up everywhere for a while, and the only "head busting" that anyone has been able to point to was a woman shoving a cameraman and a pushing match between two guys with no lasting damage to either. It's hardly a recreation to the '68 democratic convention, is it? In fact, as "union goon head busting" goes, it's pretty weak stuff.

There is a story (probably apocryphal) about Lyndon Johnson. During a campaign, Lyndon Johnson instructed an aid to start a rumor that his opponent was enjoying sexual relations with the pigs on his farm. "Do you really believe that this man is a pig fucker?" the aid asked in shock. "I don't care if it's true." Johnson replied. "I just want to make him deny it!"

When blatant lies are told, it is not unreasonable to confront and debunk them.

And when history clearly shows that such things happen under Democrat leadership, Spinner, is it so out of line to wonder if it might not have happened again?  He IS from Chicago...

It would seem that believing someone could be 110% right about anything might denote a lack of education about how percentages work.......

Nevertheless this is largely good news for those of us able to string a sentence together based on reasoned argument deriving from widely accepted facts we have taken the time to learn.

Except of course for the facts (possibly) that no one likes a smartarse and those incapable of verbal formulation so based often tend to resort to ever lower common denominators to make their points.

E

I was completely amazed that it took five pages of replies for someone to point this out.  I found it very ironic that anyone wanting to point out just how right Bill Maher is about the intelligence level of Americans would use such a silly way to express it.

Not that I'm particularly disagreeing with the premise.  Something Maher himself might be grateful for, as it's the ratings those same American people are providing in order to keep him on television.

I picked the story intentionally and deliberately. If I had picked anything from a republican administration that was illegal and hard to believe, I would have been accused of "republican bashing" For eaxmpe, I could have pointed out the enemies list of Richard Nixon or the entire watergate conspiracy. I could have mentioned Reagan and his contragate debacle or the idea that he made a deal with the Iranian's to hold the hostages until after the election where he beat Jimmy Carter. The list of election irregularities that occured in Bush II's first election to Washington is off limits as a conversational topic as is the very idea that something about the whole 9/11 attack seems to indicate that all we have been told isn't true. So I picked a Democratic action in hope of avoiding all the howls of outrage about how only republicans are attacked.

I still haven't seen a bit of reliable evidence (sites telling us that as his bipolar disorder goes into a depressive phase, Obama is planning to make us all sign loyalty oaths to him or face a government death panel to euthanize them whether they are sick or not nonwithstanding) that indicates that there was any organized campaign of violence against anyone, far less that Obama had anything to do with it.

I again urge a return to the realm of reality when the "Let's throw the most ridiculous crap we can come up with" hour is done.

In the first one, the only part you could possibly be talking about is this "Senior White House adviser David Axelrod and deputy chief of staff Jim Messina told senators to focus on the insured and how they would benefit from “consumer protections" in the overhaul, such as ending the practice of denying insurance based on preexisting conditions and ensuring the continuity of coverage between jobs.

They showed video clips of the confrontational town halls that have dominated the media coverage, and told senators to do more prep work than usual for their public meetings by making sure their own supporters turn out, senators and aides said.

And they screened TV ads and reviewed the various campaigns by critics of the Democratic plan.

“If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard,” Messina said, according to an official who attended the meeting." which you are free to interpret meant actual hitting, but reading the actual words preceding the quote from Messina about hitting, it is clear to ME he meant discussing healthcare topics, and for the Dem senators to brush up so they are well educated in their responses. They also said the Senators should work to have as many of their supporters at the town hall meetings as possible. Pretty sure he didn't mean rounding up folks off the street and forceing them to show.

This is the wrong thread to go into too much of a detailed discussion of Obama - SEIU connections, but feel free to continue it on any thread related to that topic that you would like.

ok all im going to say on the matter is stop looking for someone to blame i mean seriously it is not the schools fault people arent taught shit if parents are so concerned about education they need to step up to the plate and do something about it

secondly our government is fucked up big deal but again it is not theyr fault we are the ones who give them the power to do shit and if some dick gets into office we have no one to blame but ourselves this is why i hate politics because all it is is a bitch fest

oh and 3rdlythe govt doesnt do a damn thing for people the people who have to do nothing are merely people who know how to play the system the majority of people indeed are a bunch of dumbasses but most of these dumbasses still bust theyr ass for what they have

Not sure how this one http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/15/powerful-19mmember-union-_n_86860.html relates to your point. The SEIU were trying to get the Democrat Presidential candidates to come speak to them and they endorsed all three.

How does that prove Obama sent them to rallies to knock heads together as goons?

Oh and as an aside, I love that one of the "goons" had to walk with a cane...very intimidating! ;)

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 2:42:49 PM)

THis is from the SEIU website:

Reality Check: False Claims Debunked About Last Week's Town Hall in St. Louis

FALSE CLAIM: Multiple SEIU members hit/kicked Kenneth Gladney, a conservative activist from St. Louis, while he was minding his own business selling buttons.
REALITY: In fact, it was an SEIU staffer --a disabled minister--who was assaulted. When the video that has been all over the radio and cable news shows begins, the Reverend Elston McCowan is already on the ground. Rev. McCowan is also seen clutching his shoulder, which was dislocated in the fall, once he is finally able to get up after the attack. He also sustained a chipped bone during the fall.

REALITY: Even Gladney, in the video, doesn't claim this happened. He only claims his hands were "hit"--which has been disputed--and he never claims that this took place before the disabled Reverend was hit.

FALSE CLAIM: There's video evidence of SEIU members beating Gladney from the town hall meeting.
REALITY: Videos taken that night, edited and unedited, do not support Gladney's claims. In fact, in this freeze-frame video, it's pretty evident that the person who has been pushed to the ground -- on his back -- is a wearing a purple SEIU shirt--and is not Kenneth Gladney. Teabaggers have consistently confused Rev. Elston McCowan with Gladney, a conservative activist who has said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with "Don't tread on me" printed on them.
REALITY: Newspaper reports from that night cited no witness accounts of the incident, only Gladney's story. There are two sides to every story, and right now Gladney's is the only one being publicly told.

FALSE CLAIM: Gladney was rushed to the hospital after the alleged 'attack'.
REALITY: Gladney left the protest upright, walking and talking--and conducting live television interviews. In the video, Gladney does fall to the ground at one point in the shuffle--but he jumps back up and is standing up less than two seconds later. Furthermore, as Media Matters' excellent deconstruction of the supposed "union beating" points out, Gladney was not whisked away by an ambulance and "hospitalized" immediately after the town hall. Rather, he sought treatment of his own accord to treat injuries to his "knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face." All that from a two-second fall to the pavement?

That same night, Gladney also did interviews on live television. Yet two days later at an anti-SEIU protest, Gladney attended in a wheelchair. His lawyer claimed that Gladney was "under heavy medication" and would not be speaking at the event.

FALSE CLAIM: This was a "hate crime."
REALITY: Kenneth Gladney is accusing an SEIU staff member (and minister) who is African-American. SEIU is the nation's most diverse union: 56 percent of its members are women, and 40 percent are people of color.

FALSE CLAIM: Gladney has no health insurance.
REALITY: At the anti-SEIU protest, Gladney told reporters that he was recently out of work and had no health insurance, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. However, by Tuesday, his story had changed and conservative blogs were reporting that Gladney does, in fact, receive insurance through his wife. When Gladney's (now-former lawyer) David Brown was asked about this, he replied: "Well, who doesn't need a donation? If people want to give him a donation because he's injured and unemployed, that's up to them." Brown said Gladney has raised about $1,100 in donations so far. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 8/9; Washington Independent, 8/10)

FALSE CLAIM: Gladney was only hired to sell buttons at the town hall meeting, and has no ties to the broader Tea Party movement.
REALITY: Gladney, along with his lawyer (at the time), a Tea Party activist, were spoiling for a fight. Gladney came to the protest with his lawyer and Tea Party activist, David Brown. In February, Brown formed an LLC in Missouri under the name The Political Mint LLC. The Political Mint has openly promoted the fact that they are involved in "Tea Party Fundraising." Despite walking away from the protest, Gladney and his lawyer then contacted reporters and conservative bloggers with their tale, appearing on Fox News the next day. They immediately announced that they would be filing a civil suit. Brown's brother, Andrew Beeney, is going to be the lawyer officially presenting him.

FALSE CLAIM: The Tea Party protesters are only voicing the concerns of real Americans in the healthcare debate--and the protest in St. Louis is an important part of that debate.
REALITY: The Teabaggers themselves admitted that their real goal is "no reform at all;" the focus on St. Louis is an attempt to distract from our national healthcare crisis. On a private conference call, top Tea Party and conservative activists--including organizers from RecessRally.com, American Liberty Alliance, and "Tea Party Patriots"-- openly admitted their real goal: to defeat ANY healthcare reform bill. "The goal is not compromise, and ANY bill coming out this year would be a failure for us," said the call's moderator, according to reports at Greg Sargent's blog, The Plum Line. The report also indicated that one of the organizers on the call also added, "The purpose of Tea Parties is not to find a solution to the health care crisis -- it is to stop what is not the solution: Obamacare." (The Plum Line, 8/11/09)

As opposed to the reasonable websites you cited? The one's that tout headlines that Obama is bipolar, not a us citizen, planning death panels and plotting the overthrow of democracy itself? I know I've been asked to tone back on the ridicule (and been called an Alanski-ist for it) but this one is just too good to pass up.  Please find websites not run by people on heavy doses of lithium to cite before criticizing anyone else's citations.

As an addendum, even if you are right that the SEIU and Obama are and have been tightly aligned, it is a long leap from that to say that what seem to be minor and isolated cases of violence between union members and the idea that this is any organized "head busting goon squad" tactic by union officials. It is even a farther leap to say that Obama is part of this conspiracy theory.

Even though I personally view Obama with general approval, I can see that there are valid criticisms to be discussed and considered. Why do you feel the need to avoid those and move into the realm of the birthers, the flat earthers and the endless trailer park residents who swear they were anal probed? And please don't respond with a message claiming I am trying to govern what is discussed and when. I respect your right to make whatever charges you wish at any time you wish. I also support your right to shove crab apples up your ass and sing the score from Fiddler on the Roof in Swedish. In both cases, though, I feel the need to ask why you would want to.

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 3:06:50 PM)

As I said, you can interpret it as you like, but it proves nothing except the SEIU was trying to get Obama to deal with them as they were Leiberman and CLinton.

And yes, the SEIU gets to have a say in what happened, just as the opposing side gets to have a say in what happened. Oh, and look at that! They said the same thing I saw when I first watched it. A fellow was shoved to the ground, then another fell, and the shover claimed to be assualted. WHat a surprise. Too bad they didn't record the whole incident, so we know what actually happened instead of just extrapolating our impressions from the end result.

And on two fronts, I'd like to point out that ALLEGATIONS ARE NOT CONVICTIONS and people are supposed to be proven guilty, nnot prove their innocence. All that was proven about Bill was that he got a blowjob, NOT that he was sexually harassing or raping anyone.

Obama is not guilty by association, because this group wanted to be associated with him, does not mean he ordered anyone to do anything. ANd there is nothing that proves any goons were there, not in any of the links provided, which by the way was a pain in the ass to read through, since much was not related or information had to be twisted to suit your intention.

What I linked to that you're complaining about was video, Spinner.   [8|]

Video of a Congressman discussing a relatively well known controversy that had Obama withholding federal funding from California on behalf of the SEIU... effectively, Obama was blackmailing a state on behalf of the SEIU.

Just about common knowledge, or at least it is if you get your news anywhere other than the New York Times or CNN, etc.
