that has already been addressed, gift. do try and keep up with the thread. he admitted his mistake, took ownership. the "liar" comments dont quite work after admitting an error.

Arpig -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 9:49:02 AM)

Ah but tazzy, gift doesn't seem to actually care about such details, as long as he can rant and rave against the evil lefties who are out to destroy America with their base ideas of equality and fairness.....

Sanity -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 9:51:45 AM)

Do some basic research, they're busing the goons and other DNC operatives in and having them set up the 'town hall' meetings, having them limit who can come in, they're intimidating people... its all very coordinated (apparently through the White House) and the goal is to control public opinion.

No big deal unless you value free speech and that sort of thing, which I do. No big deal if you want the kind of government they have in your typical banana republiuc, or gangland Chicago.

Let's try to keep the discussion in the realm of plausibility at least till lunchtime, shall we?

It's 5:00 somewhere, Spinner, and I have been known to start drinking when that somewhere is in London.  Even cold sober though, I get that Sanity was speaking figuratively about the sorts of things that were going on with the union assholes.

True. i keep forgetting how some have to be letter "perfect" while others can make "mistakes" and then say... lighten up.

im learning though

It can't last, folks. ORIGINAL: Sanity

Isn't it amazing that every problem in this country is caused by the democrats? Thank you for pointing that out, Sanity. As usual your bi-partisan, results oriented postings illuminate any discussion.

I have to call "foul" spinner. Sanity didn't ascribe the problem solely to democrats, or to the majority party, with any specificity. He used the words "majority in government" which I interpret as being inclusive of all in government regardless of party affiliation.

Awesome Tazzy.

Gift: seriously, learn to spell. If you can't you can get the computer to do it for you.

What did I spell wrong in my last post?

Oh, you are talking about my post from yesterday? Well, I did learn how to spell the word "liar." If you look at my last post before this one; I spelled the word "liar" correctly. But, I do appreciate you delayed comment on my spelling.

Your drinking comment reminds me of a story I once read about the supreme Court in the early 1800's (I believe this to be the time frame don't quote me). It seems Justice Marshall liked to drink. The other justices of the court were a bit concerned about this and made a rule that on consultation days, the justices would not imbibe unless it was raining. At the next consultation day, which was a fine, blueskyed day, Justice Marshall was found drinking. When reminded of the rule, he is quoted as saying "This court represents the entire United States. Somewhere in the United States it's raining. Bring on the rum!"

As to the rest of your post, the initial conversation was not started by an ambiguous statement open to misinterpretation. What was said was "The White House appears to be sending union goons out to town halls to bust people's heads". When I requested citations, I was given no less than seven links of incredibly dubious value, rather than any sign that there was any misunderstanding in what was being said.

Sorry, but in this case a baseless and unfounded accusation was thrown out, for purposes I will not speculate upon and no amount of backpedaling will change this. Just as I have admitted and apologized when I was incorrect in a posting, I believe the proper response would be for the poster of this outright falsehood to admit the same.

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 10:32:50 AM)

Yeah, I'm sure Bush's people never staged a speech. I'm sure he was just doing some skydiving and decided to drop in on the battleship and declare victory in Iraq, with a nice smattering of women and black people standing behind him apparently supporting him.

Interesting though that there is so much footage of anti healthcare questions at the town hall meetings, and yet some folks claim there is no free speech. One chick even spoke out calling Obama a Nazi. Dumb, but free. Bush would have had her arrested and detained for three days (as the Patriot Act allows, an abomination to the Constitution) and called her a terrorist, had he been the brunt of such slander.

One dude, went up against 25 and you call him a goon? Misguided and foolish perhaps, but not a goon, and most likely not sent by the Gov't to bite fingers off. More of a Mike Tyson move.

Gift: healthcare is now accepted as one word in many English dictionaries.

I have to give some validity to your "foul" call, Nasty and ask for clarification.

Sanity....was your original posting designed to speak of the Republicans and Conservatives in current government as well as the Democrats? If so I will be glad to admit that I misunderstood your intent.

What "majority" were you talking about, Sanity?

Lostkitten3 -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 10:41:26 AM)

Gift: Far more than the one word, and although I don't want to go back and edit each and every comment you have made, I will use these two for an example:

"I don't believe that McCain was suppose to win that election." The correct word would be SUPPOSED, not suppose. Supposed means required to do something. Suppose means you assume something to be true.

"How dare you try and construed the facts to work with your argument." Here you needed to use construe, not construed. The "ed" means it happened already, but the rest of your sentence is in the present tense.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/healthcare (not a word )

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/healthcare (In order for it to be a word you must insert the - symbol between health and care) How about you learn how to use a computer program to spell.

Anyways, I don't think Obama has sent any goons to any town hall meetings. However, I do support the theory that many representatives have.

Sanity -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 10:50:52 AM)

McCain is Liberal. Bush is very Liberal... there is an entitlement attitude prevalent throughout D.C.

You might well be right, Spinner.  It's also possible that this tactic DID in fact come from the highest levels, and I'm completely wrong in suggesting it was a figurative reference.  The SEIU was showing up all over the place for a little while.

DavanKael -> RE: Bill Maher : most Americans are Dumb and Uneducated - And he is 110% right, as always :) (9/6/2009 10:59:27 AM)

I enjoy Bill Maher and agree with a lot of things that he says.  One aspect where he and I diverge is his tendency to take extremist positions.  I will do this sometimes where-as, he does it as a matter of course.  I don't know if it's for ratings, his actual beliefs, or both, but he goes with the extremist party line too often then follows with 'anyone who doesn't agree with me is stupid' which is not the way to win hearts and minds.  Again, though, I am a Bill Maher fan.  Comedically speaking, though, I think Carlin said many of the same things Maher said but did so with greater intellect and humanity.

The beauty of Carlin is (in addition to being Mr. Conductor) that he didn't finish high school. He did join the Air Force, but that cat is brilliant. Much like Chris Rock, his comedy is so funny because it's true.

Bill Maher, I love him. He is hilarious, and most people, like myself, watch him for comedy. Again the beauty of good comedy is when it is based in truth. Yes, Bill goes overboard sometimes, and calls people stupid, and ideas stupid, but we all know it's his opinion, and we have the right to agree or disagree. He is not brainwashing, pretending everything he says is true (unlike some Fox "news" folks) and is far more in control of himself and his speech than Glenn Beck (who ironically is being medicated for depression and suicidal tendencies.) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/28/fox-host-glenn-beck-obama_n_246310.html

"Just because a country elects a smart president..."

While Maher may have a point regarding the intellect of the American people the events of 04 Nov 2008 prove his point - what happened that day happened because he is right and not in spite of the fact that he is right.
