thebongripper -> Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 9:47:44 AM)

I'm not talking about that stupid ass green day bullshit.

I'm talking fucking Grindcore. Crust. Peace Punk. Original Punk. Doom. Sludge. Down-Tempo. Black Metal. Depressive Down-Tempo. Stoner Doom.

No, I don't consider myself a "Punk rocker." I'm just trying to see if anyone out there listens to good music and not the fucking radio.

In Grind we Crust.

pahunkboy -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 1:22:57 PM)

do you have any links?

Arpig -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 1:33:42 PM)

True punk? You mean the real stuff like The Sex Pistols or the The Ramones, or the modern crap that passes as punk these days?

Level -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 1:34:30 PM)

How about Green Day?

Arpig -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 1:39:15 PM)

Well everyone loves trumpeting that their bands are "true" punk or "true" metal. That's an argument based on perspective but dressed up as fact.

For the sake of the post, I'll go ahead and list some of the metal bands I enjoy. I gave up a long time ago trying to put them down into specific sub genres.

Iron Maiden
Iced Earth
Queensryche
DIO
Megadeth
Savatage
Judas Priest
Blaze
Bruce Dickinson
Glenn Tipton

One thing I thank punk for, is Henry Rollins. Don't especially care about Black Flag, but I like his later stuff.

porcelaine -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 2:18:00 PM)

i listen to all sorts of stuff, though most of it is angst ridden metal. i prefer black or the dark goth stuff myself. but that doesn't prohibit me from liking other styles as well. my selections are based upon mood and rarely influenced by fads.

recent stuff on my playlist includes songs by:

all that remains
as i lay dying
cannibal corpse
carnifex
cradle of filth
distorted
dying fetus
enslavement of beauty
him
hypocrisy
killswitch engage
otep
pain of salvation
queensryche
rammstein
slipknot
suicide silence
waking the cadaver

just to name a few...

You're only 18. You weren't even born when true punk was around.
I loved Suicidal Tendencies and the more obscure Husker Du.

You weren't either, True punk died in the 20's with the dada movement lol

Man I have bin liners older than you, this is NOT a knock at you or your age, just  a comment on how ancient I feel today. I went to my first punk concert in 1977, I was 15 , saw sid n johnny doin their thing, after that there was the stranglers, clash, buzzcocks, sham69, the Jam, the skids etc etc, then I went another direction, didnt give up my pink hair or black makeup for a few more years,,,,now I just have the memories of a misspent youth and how much I enjoyed it. [:)]

trappedinamuseum -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 3:17:39 PM)

No, I don't listen to any of that.

But, thanks for putting your definition of what equates to "true punk" onto everyone else.  Awesome.

DarkSteven -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/7/2009 7:29:26 PM)

So I suppose that Glen Campbell, the Carpenters, and the Archies don't count?

The OP asked, "if anyone out there listens to good music", so of course those have to count, along with Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, and Donovan.

Relax...I was just poking fun at the OP for his use of the term "true punk".
If you want the truth I don't like either punk or metal, the occaisional piece yeah, but as a genre, no.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Does anyone out there listen to true punk or metal? (9/8/2009 5:44:20 AM)

There is only this small window of opportunity for listeners of depressive down tempo to reply to this thread before they’ve made their wrists look like a Tube map with a razor blade.
