tazzygirl -> When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 4:53:29 PM)

From Beck's newsletter (year, i get that... lol)

quote:

President Obama was called a liar in the middle of his speech yesterday on healthcare. Rep. Joe Wilson was out of line, and admitted he was acting on raw emotion. How did the President and others around deal with the heckling? Glenn reminds us to always watch what the other hand is doing. The press wants you to focus on the R and D game being played after the speech. Why? Because (as you will see below) Washington is rife with corruption and they don't want you to notice. STORY

Sorry, its in my email,. so i cant link, but im going with the idea that you can find it on his web site.

This is the link from Beck's web site

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090910/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_health_care_heckling

So, i thought... ya know... finally.. most sources are agreeing. Then i thought.. ok, most say Fox is about as republican as you can get, surely they would have a spin on this if anyone does.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/09/congressman-yells-lie-obama-speech/

And, believe it or not, almost the same exact story.

When all the reports are coming out against an act, you know that act was bad. Im extremely gald to see there isnt a spin on this one.... and that the Congressman has appologized. The republican party say they will decide later if he will be punished. In all truth, i agree with Pelosi on this one... dont. If reports are correct about donations to the man planning to run against this congressman, the public will punish him enough.

If I remember correctly, President Bush was booed several times by democrats when he had his  State of the Union address. The left was silent when it happened to Bush. Another double standard and I for one am not suprised.

tazzygirl -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:23:29 PM)

The republicans came out against him just as strongly as the democrats. Which is what this was about. Finally a bi-partisan consensus.

servantforuse -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:29:03 PM)

Maybe the democrats should also do the right thing and critisize their own when rude behavior happens to the President on the other side of the aisle. I guess the republicans just have more class.

tazzygirl -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:31:12 PM)

Oh yeah, the congressman showed lots of class [8|]

Louve00 -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:31:43 PM)

If you ask me Pelosi is just cashing in on a republican snafu.  Graciously and appreciatively accepting an apology is seen as a good thing by all sides.  Joe Wilson gave the dem's a chance to be 'the good guys', in a frenzy of "they're the bad guys".  This is the first time a congressman ever heckled a president in an address like this.  And the buzz going round with black americans is the first heckling of the first black american president.  Even if the repubs demanded Wilson apologize (which he clearly did with knowledge he was doing what he was told to do), they are creating a divide that is going to be hard to forget and overcome. IMO

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who spoke to FOX News before learning who delivered the yell, said she didn't intend to move to sanction anyone for it.

not sure how that is cashing in....

servantforuse -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:35:33 PM)

When the dems booed President Bush, that was heckling. This certainly was not the first time a sitting president was heckeled, and it will not be the last.

Louve00 -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:42:33 PM)

Pelosi is as left as they come.  If I had just her word to go on, I'd be as skeptical as some of the things I'm hearing and seeing on the right.  I'm not going to argue or agree with points Pelosi brings up though.  The apology was to Obama, and it gave him a chance to be gracious and forgiving.  As for punishment, I do agree he sealed his own fate politically.  I think if the shoe were on the other foot, the right would cling to this like white on rice.  Its just my opinion, but I think the left isn't going to let this go on.

Louve00 -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:44:13 PM)

Grumbling, booing, and low whispering is not quite the same thing as shouting "You Lie" to a presidents address.  Bush was never heckled.  Maybe obvious disagreement was expressed, but no one outwardly started name calling.

Well, maybe Bush was heckled when those shoes were thrown at him...but it wasn't a democrats shoe, or any American's shoe for that matter.

tazzygirl -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 6:54:05 PM)

His own party is talking about punishing him... no one else. Seems to me, he already has been.

I hardly think boo'ing someone in protest will ever be seen along the same lines as calling the President a liar.

servantforuse -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 7:00:19 PM)

Rep. Joe Wilson was the only guy in the entire building last night that did tell the truth. This will not hurt him one iota in 2010.

Louve00 -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 7:08:21 PM)

I agree with you there.  Whether or not he's formally punished is moot to what he did to himself when he let his emotions get out of control.  I can certainly understand what made him angry, but in his position, self-restraint and respect should have superceded.  Further, since he was being made to apologize by his party, instead of making it "sound" sincere, he clearly let it be known he was being made to say the things he did by his party.

Joe Wilson showed a complete and udder lack of self restraint and preserverance.  While he was ranting like a loon, John Shimkus, R-Illinois, quietly walked out of the speech.  That is someone being truthful to himself with dignity.  So no....Wilson wasn't the only one...just the one who heckled the president [;)]

tazzygirl -> RE: When they all agree, you know you screwed up (9/10/2009 7:25:32 PM)

I have to admire a man with that much self restraint. Though, i dont understand why someone would walk out on a speech given by a man they dont trust. Guess its just me wanting to know the whole story... and not what im told later.

I was waiting for someone to make this the Democrat's fault. After all, the republicans have been so forgiving, bi partisan and reasonable. On behalf of all us big, mean democrats, I sowwy.

Feel better?

Might make for an interesting election...

Wilson's shout is giving a financial boost to his Democratic opponent. Wilson's 2008 opponent -- a former Marine named Rob Miller, who is challenging him again in 2010 -- said he has received more than $450,000 in contributions since Wednesday night. It's not clear whether the people who made the donations live in South Carolina.
