I don't follow this birther stuff very closely. What is it these people want to see? And why doesn't Obama just trot it out in a spirit of transparency and make them look silly? Dunno. The whole issue is not a big question in my mind. Frankly, I'd rather it went away. If Obama were to be proved ineligible, we'd end up with Biden as President. Think about that one for a few minutes.

This issue would be too big if it came to light that so many people were accomplices to this level of fraud. Not to mention the many news organizations who have said they have touched and verified the authenticity of his birth certificate. As crooked as i believe our government can be, i find it extremely hard that even they can cover this up to this extent without someone getting nervous about it biting them in the ass later.

Ok...I'll bite. Tell me ONE way no matter how small or insignificant, that the controversy over Bush's election is germane to the discussion of Obama's citizenship. I don't mean "well if you lefties hadn't so unreasonably questioned Bush's election we noble conservatives wouldn't be so reasonably be questioning Obama's citizenship" nonsense. I mean why is the way Bush was treated have a damn thing to do with the situation. Why is it any different from me saying "How dare you talk about the health care plan? Remember that a republican stole my cab a year ago!"

I'd rather it went away too, Kitara. My proof that it is a tempest in a teapot is simple: If there was anything to this whole "non citizenship" nonsense, SOMEONE running against him would have dug it up. Even if one wants to believe that it wouldn't be checked out in a US senatorial campaign and even if you want to believe that the republican party moved so far away from the policies of Rove, is anyone going to tell me Hillary Clinton wouldn't have found a way to find the facts and bring them up?

If there was any fire behind this smoke, it would have been made public back in the primaries.

There is a difference between posting a contrary point of view and misrepresenting the one you're objecting to, no matter how jolly you think you're being. I hardly equate criticism of someone's political technique with intimidation. Anyone who can actually be intimidated by such criticism could be mugged through the mail.

While I know this is not going to be everybody's opinion, I think that even if this charge was true, it is not a good thing to pursue. Look at the level of acrimony in this country. Now just think about the fallout from removing a sitting president on what is, when all is said and done, a technicality.

It does beg the question: Are there things so important they are worth keeping one's mouth shut about or is the revelation of the truth paramount no matter what the other considerations? It's a knotty philosophical problem.
