It went nicely in LA- and LA is sprawal.   Cook county has more parks then any other city in North America.  I think RIO fits and EARNED the 2016 games.

Had RIO not been in- then Chicago would have done just fine. Chicago would have done us all proud.

Daniel Burnum and Samual Cook, Louis Joilet- all key figures in our westward expansion.

Hang on Lake Shore Drive- and when you factor everything in- they could handle the games.

Here we go - why didn't someone on collarme think of this. Blame it on Bush! From the Chicago Sun-Times:

quote:

Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment?

Some Chicago officials say anti-American resentment likely played a role in Chicago's Olympic bid dying in the first round Friday.

President Obama could not undo in one year the resentment against America that President Bush and others built up for years, they said.

"There must be" resentment against America, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, near the stage where he had hoped to give a victory speech in Daley Center Plaza. "The way we [refused to sign] the Kyoto Treaty, we misled the world into Iraq. The world had a very bad taste in its mouth about us. But there was such a turnaround after last November. The world now feels better about America and about Americans. That's why I thought the president's going was the deal-maker."

Too bad the Playboy Club closed years ago. The bunnies hanging out at Oak Street Beach may have tipped the committee in favor of Chicago.

The eye candy at Oak Street without the bunnies is very nice.

Oh absolutely!! my bike rides always seemed to take a long pause there.
But compare Rio's eye candy to Chicago's.

Rio has a reputation for it. Chicago does not.

Sanity -> RE: Chicago Olympics 2016...Not all Chicagoans seem happy (10/5/2009 7:11:51 AM)

Though comedy, it was a brutal little skit, it certainly appears as though Obama's adoring fans are sending him a message. I even decided after posting it here that it probably belonged better in Firm's 'Is the media abandoning Obama?' thread, or even Merc's 'Some Adversaries Don't Talk - They Do.' thread.

Too late to change that, though.

I do wish you'd stop trying to continue the myth that anyone who supported or supports Obama is an adoring, hero worshiping demozombie, Sanity. It is about as appropriate and correct as the idea that everyone who opposed or opposes him is a racist. I think everyone who has supported Obama knew he was a politician and therefore by no means perfect. Now that he is president, we condemn what we don't like him doing, critisize his policies when we feel they merit it and political humorists make fun of him just as if we weren't mindless cool aid drinking fanboys and fangirls.

These things you point out aren't a proof that anything is changing. It is proof that the whole "the left thinks Obama can do no wrong" and "Obama is getting special treatment" models was wrong from the begining.

Really? I don't find it difficult in the least. Usually when mocking ridicule is used it's an indication that there is no merit. When an actual counter position or perspective is given, it indicates that there is another way to look at things.

Of course this is heavily influence by those who first need to determine the 'party' behind the position and then decide whether they are going to 'head-bob' or not based upon the party source.

Yes Merc, because as you keep reminding us you are not a Republican.

Yet, you keep seeming to "head-bob" over any Republican talking point or issue.

Sorry you have a perception problem. Maybe its just the issues.

I abhor waste and failure - maybe that is reflected in being against this current Administration, but that a position based upon results not politics.

Unlike, some - I was against the first stimulus not just Obama's 'Bush II' initiative. I am also against, and always been against, the deployment of more troops being provided as cannon fodder for war escalation in Afghanistan. Currently I am confused on the Administration's position on this issue. He campaigned on escalation but seems to be vacillating now - maybe by the end of the week I'll be supporting his Democratic party led surrender to the Taliban. I won't understand why the situation changed on the ground since January, but appreciate Obama's status change in the US.

I also support this Administration's current continuation of incarcerating prisoners at Gitmo.

I think it's just issues Rule and your perception. Or maybe you and me differ in that I don't check the political label of the person before determining if I should be for or against an issue. I don't see the difference that you do. I hope I never do, because it seems to make people paranoid.

So does that mean they'll be sending back the "foreign aid" checks uncashed?
That "KYOTO" scam was rejected by the senate 99 to 1 I think.
And what is"The Reverand" Jesse Jackson doing injecting his putrid opinion into the political arena again for? Shouldn't he be tending to his flock or something? He needs to stop speculating on what "the world" may or may not "think." He'd have a better chance at hitting the Powerball lottery than trying to guess what "the world" "thinks."
