ORIGINAL: tiedtothebed trying to override the bill of rights and take away the right to bear arms (Hitler's first act in Germany after he took power) will leave the citizenry merciless at the hand of the government. It is sad sad country if our main weapon against government is .45. I was told our weapon is our right to vote, to choose democratic government, and to dispose of it if we dont like it. Do you honestly believe you have constitutional right to bear arms to protect yourself against government? Like Waco, TX, or Oklahoma, OH, which recent case would you like to quote. Yes I do, just like Washington, Jefferson, Adams and all the other founding fathers had the god-given right to send the English back across the pond. And in doing so they bled and suffered to give you the first government in human history that enumerated your god-given right to defend yourself effectively. A right way too many people are willing to throw in the garbage in return so they can vote for a government that is willing to (illegally) put a gun to other's people heads and make them pay for *YOUR* healthcare which is no one's responsibility but your own or to force people to follow your own fundamentalist environmental views. It's clear that a near majority of people in this country don't realize the government guns being used for your "benefit" today can be used to blow your own brains out tomorrow. And what the hell do you think the word "dispose" meant in the declaration of independence ? That the founding fathers had a right to vote the English out but didn't have a right to defend themselves when the redcoats began killing them ? Any republican form of government that is still following the people's will has no need to be "disposed". "Dispose" has nothing to do with elections. I used to wonder during high school/college western history classes how a society could get so screwed up that it can vote a Hitler into power and not only stand by but cheer on when the genocidal slaughter of the chosen scapegoat class begins. Now I wonder how I can possibly prevent having to experience something similar in my lifetime. If friggen amazes me what people are willing to give up in order to make other people pay for their own personal responsibilities. Or in other words, if you don't have health insurance why the hell are you even able to post here ? Certainly health insurance is a more important responsibility than Internet connectivity (or cell phone, cable, or car payment, ad infinitum). I wasn't really worried until I woke up one night last month and instantly realized I no longer had any fear of death (still have plenty of fear of pain, well, the wrong kind of pain anyway). Since that change wasn't the result of a month long fast or a 48 hour meditation session and since I don't engage in pharmacological recreation I have to assume I'm being prepared for something potentially ugly. The most benign possibility I can think of is my time is short and that i'm due to cross in some stupidly useless way (ie car accident, heart attack, etc). It's nauseatingly weird to have that potential kind of event to now be listed in the "not so bad, I can deal with it" category.
