~FR~ There is an explanation for this that has gone unmentioned. There are many smokers who feel extremely picked on right now. Let's face it, smokers have become very much second class citizens. Accepting that being a smoker is a stupid thing indeed (and I say this as a smoker), it's a hard addiction to break. Now, in addition to the other harmful effects of this condition, smokers have to deal with a society that seems determined, while not making tobacco illegal, which would help some, if not all, break the addiction (if only by not having it available in every drug store, deli and gas station) to make life as unpleasant for smokers as possible. While I know that this is an all but impossible request, put aside the fact that smoking is indeed a destructive thing and take a look at it from the smoker's point of view: 1) Cigarettes are now taxed to the point where the taxes are about 3 times the cost of the product 2) There is virtually no indoor public place where smoking is allowed. (a very pleasant thing when it's 2 degrees, snowing and windy) 3) There are efforts being spoken of to ban smoking in the hotel rooms rented by smokers 4) There are plans to start banning smoking in places like parks and beaches and other outside locations. 5) There is a very large group sentiment that smokers don't deserve such things as health care because they are "doing this to themselves" (as if everyone else was living on tofu and jogging to work every day) Now, I am pretty sure this is going to turn into a "look how bad smoking is" thread, but the point I make is simply this: There are some smokers who feel very picked upon. Hence the bumper sticker.
