Had to share this and I feel this is the place for it because of the quasi-political content of the sticker  (Is that a word?).

The bumper sticker said  "Hitler was a non-smoker"

So am I as a non smoker like Hitler?  and when Obama was a smoker, was he NOT like Hitler but now he is?

But then I got to thinking.  Jesus was also a non smoker (There was no tobacco in the Old World until the 16th century for those who are historically challenged) so..........

Anyways, I'm half venting here and half looking for other insights.  Smokers and Non smokers, what do you think about the sticker?  Witless???? Worse????

A trifle sickening, but Hitler went for cremation, not smoking

To me it sounds like someone has some major defensiveness about smoking.

Perhaps it was a convertible?

Notice it didn't mention WHAT was being smoked... (which could explain a few things)

My favorite bumper sticker... from 2006: "Impeach the Cheerleader: Save the World."

I think it's kind of clever. Apparently, they're making the point that being a non-smoker doesn't make one some great human being. If Hitler was a non-smoker, just being a non-smoker doesn't make one great. There's worse things than being a smoker is the point. See?

BTW...just an add-on thought here....the stupidest bumper stickers I've ever seen are when people drive around great big gas guzzling Escalades and Hummers with the ribbon magnets on them indicating how much we should pray for our troops and bring them home safely and all that. Don't they realize they're part of the problem? A big part? Hmmmmm..........

Interesting.  I have a bumper sticker that was given to me, depicting Hitler returning the stylized "Sieg Heil" salute, with a caption of, "all in favor of gun control, raise your right hand."  It's not on my car, for a number of reasons, but I put it on a locking chest that contains items best kept secure.

Godwin's Law applies, but yours does make a statement.  Hitler and any sort of individual liberty just don't go together.

Unh, wanna spell out your reasoning here for me? I was not aware that we had troops in harm's way fighting global warming.

one of the best stickers I've ever seen was "I'm a PBS person in a FOX news world"

apparently, Hitler was also a vegetarian.  Non-smoker.  lotsa of other current PC things.

From what I've read, anyway..........

I think it's been suggested that the invasion of Iraq might have had something to do with its untapped oil resources.

~FR~

There is an explanation for this that has gone unmentioned. There are many smokers who feel extremely picked on right now. Let's face it, smokers have become very much second class citizens. Accepting that being a smoker is a stupid thing indeed (and I say this as a smoker), it's a hard addiction to break. Now, in addition to the other harmful effects of this condition, smokers have to deal with a society that seems determined, while not making tobacco illegal, which would help some, if not all, break the addiction (if only by not having it available in every drug store, deli and gas station) to make life as unpleasant for smokers as possible.

While I know that this is an all but impossible request, put aside the fact that smoking is indeed a destructive thing and take a look at it from the smoker's point of view:

1) Cigarettes are now taxed to the point where the taxes are about 3 times the cost of the product
2) There is virtually no indoor public place where smoking is allowed. (a very pleasant thing when it's 2 degrees, snowing and windy)
3) There are efforts being spoken of to ban smoking in the hotel rooms rented by smokers
4) There are plans to start banning smoking in places like parks and beaches and other outside locations.
5) There is a very large group sentiment that smokers don't deserve such things as health care because they are "doing this to themselves" (as if everyone else was living on tofu and jogging to work every day)

Now, I am pretty sure this is going to turn into a "look how bad smoking is" thread, but the point I make is simply this: There are some smokers who feel very picked upon. Hence the bumper sticker.
