LOL true, that's funny.

Haven't met anyone from here.

i am finding it oddly curious, however, how many people would do a background check and yet how many won't do references. Not necessarily the same people, but such overwhelming numbers on each option. i am perplexed!

I dont do references nor use folks, but I do believe in networking and people helping peolpe.. When and If I can do a trip to the US i will take up all the offers to meet and coffee /dring good peat smokes single maly whisky and generally make new friends face to face.... Same with a trip to the UK... That would be something very special.

I'm of the opinion that we aren't interviewing for a job here. So I really don't look to have someone as a references. If a person I'm talking to need references and we're looking at a relationship that will be more then just passing friends then obviously this person has baggage. Since I only deal with baggage when I'm traveling and only if it's mine, I'm not going to deal with this persons baggage. They can come back and try again when they're better equiped to handle a relationship on an adult level.

If we're just looking at being friends and they need references then I tell them "Don't let the door hit ya where the Lord split ya on your way out." This isn't a popularity contest.

Just an aside to the Dom i quoted: emotional baggage is part and parcel of being human and accumulates over time. I only object when a Man has negative patterns he uses to "handle" this aspect of his life. Most people are able to find positive ways, and make wonderful ADULT friends and lovers.

As for the Op:

If i gave references it might not be lifestyle people, since i've only known about D/s for 2 years, but it would be people i've know 20, 30 years. i think the idea of references is sound; helps a little to replace the "neighborhood" we all think existed, where people knew one another & looked out for one another. Just try to think of Yourself as a whole person. Many people in Your life can, e.g., attest to Your integrity.

Lastly STILL looking for coffee buddies in Cleveland, Ohio. *sigh*. We evidentially are a shy bunch here.

I'm not sure why it is that you feel the need to follow my posts in threads and respond to them, candy, but alright. I'll play this little game. LOL

I don't know if you really realize it, but other then a slight difference on what we probably consider baggage, we actually are in agreement on this point. What you said above is what I meant by they could come back and try again when they are ready to handle the relationship on an adult level.

psst.. the letters only have to be touching any other part of the word and not next to each other for your words to be accepted, so use the 's' and 'ed' and 'er' letters to extend the words even if they are not touching your last letter.

Not following YOU, Sir, just Your interesting ideas. You correctly assessed the ssituation; i took what You said to mean a person could have no baggage whatsoever, not in how it was managed.

Good to know W/we agree.

Well I've met/know 8 people? That I know of anyway. Half of which won't remember meeting me in the first place. One isn't really even on here anymore though his profile is. Another is so rarely here, that she might as well delete her profile. Another keeps changing his ID on here as if the mafia is out to get him (or maybe he's just hiding from me.. hmm)

I've been doing the meet people from online .. for like 10 yrs now. If I feel the need for references, then something is fishy and its just safer to stay home.

just about there on tumbleweed, now i have to do squishies for my prsonal badge..lol (OT, sorry about that..lol)

i know a few on here i wouldn't mind giving them a reference strictly as a person and a friend, but mostly i don't do the reference thing either. How do you tell someone yes, and another """no way in hell""" -- and knowing my luck, they'd be meeting each other..oy!!!

What i am always pleased and touched (when asked) is to be someone safe call. That says a great deal about our relationship...and one i treasure.

Happy Saturday, y'all...

Probably my friend, because you don't talk shit or trash talk people.. You have demonstrated honour, integrety and common sence. Makes your posts worthy of following or agreeing with even if some times it is to agree to disagree.

If someone specifically asks me about someone...I will certainly be honest with them. However, I will only make commentary on those I know well enough to do so....and I won't get into the "Well...I heard....." or "So and so told me". I will also not say anything to someone else that I would not feel comfortable in saying if the person being discussed were standing right before me.

Pretty much ditto here too (hi erin), I know a half dozen or so personally, that have a profile on collar-me, and generally only offer information if I'm given a heads up that they offered me as a reference. Even then I limit the information to basics unless asked to do otherwise, like yes I know them and yes they are real. If someone expresses interest in visiting, we usually do offer a contact, like the moderator of our local munch group as a reference, just so they do know a real life person that will say that we are, who we say we are. Not sure how much that really proves actually, but it's better than them thinking we don't know anyone.
