That's a distraction, please stay on the topic we were discussing. Defend this position or yield it.

just because he claimed to be religious, his actions proved he was not.

I just did. Over and Over. Someone can CLAIM to be religious, and be lying. Someone can CLAIM to be a cop, and be lying. Someone can CLAIM to be a Dr, and be lying... all simply to do what they wish to do.

False, whether Oliver O’Grady was or is a religious person is a different topic from whether one should call for an end to religion because of the actions of O'Grady.

First of all thank you for an on topic post. I agree with this, keep going.

'So far I've come across exactly one pro Islam poster on this forum, he claimed that all religions engaged in Jihads, I pointed out that was false, mentioned that some religions are actually peaceful and pointed out the religion from which the term pacifism was coined. Then it turned into a contest to see how many people could post "the Amish" simultaneously. I haven't seen him since. '

LOL I nearly spit pepsi all over my screen reading that and picturing an Amish Jihad.... [:D]

'LOL... now your promoting a universal religion for everyone to follow??? '

The religious version of Esparanto i'm sure [:D]

Yeah, that concept was brought up at the time and it was hilarious.

No....
The question I suppose you're referring to was based on a "Tazzy thinks that........huh?"

There is no single correct religion for everyone.

Could you walk me through the process of how a theist comes to that conclusion?

Again, you believe there is a single religion that would cover everyone?

Well, they have the beards for it at least.

rockspider -> RE: Believer(s) of god are plague to this world. (11/22/2009 7:12:02 AM)

There is one religion which do not have Jihad in it. Budhisme. The teachings of Lord Budha quite simple forbids any form of violence in his name.

How about the Jains? Or Wiccans, come to that.

Religious Orthodoxy.. im assuming you are referring to religious people.

I don't think that's an accurate portrayal of his position. If you feel the need to resort to ad hominem attacks you should probably base them on positions he's actually taken.

I say again Steel, the woman is not interested in honest debate but engages in vitriolic name calling and playing ther victim card as her technique. From the very beginning she cried out "bigot" and even took a vote in some star chamber of her imagination.

I asked and she feigned to answer What would Jesus say. Well, let's see what he did say according to the G of Luke 6:27-36
quote:

Luke 6:27-36 (New International Version)
Love for Enemies
27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful

She may claim to be a Christian and actually believe she is but her speech and her heart betray her. Clearly she fails to meet the prescriptions and commandments of love set forth in Luke. The poor woman has lost her way. I repeat my previous suggestion that she retires to the quiet sanctity of her heart and have a good sit down and review of her bitter and venomous name calling with her Jesus. Doubtlessly she will find forgiveness.

Well gee, k, I'll bet that gave your god a big shot of confidence. Was probably feeling a little down in the mouth, a little blue and woeful hanging out there in his celestial paradise all by his lonesome self and bam! there it is, proof that he really exists. Perked him right up it did. "Gee k really likes me."

Oh wait, he's the omnipotent one, and the all knowing one, isn't he? Do you suppose it really matters whether you believe in him or not? Yeh, that's what I'm thinking. lol! No big deal.

Good night all. Nighty night, god.

See, now this is what people having been trying to tell you. You don't really have the slightest notion of whether or not I actually believe in a "God" per se, or what my conception of Deity or the Divine might be if I do. All you are about is dropping your pants at any opportunity to shit on some bogey man in your head.

K.

Word games, K. It is commonly taken in our culture when one uses the word "God" with a capital "G" one is refering to the judeo-christian god. If you do not wish to have your POV taken ambiguously then have the honesty to state it clearly rather than hide behind self-defined clever-cute remarks and I will give you respect for it.

LOL

I dont ever recall claiming to be "christian"

GotSteel -> RE: Believer(s) of god are plague to this world. (11/22/2009 9:56:13 AM)

Yeah Moonhead, Jainism is certainly my first example.

You know my stance on belief; I'm wondering about yours, you don't think a belief in Christianity includes a belief that it's the right answer for everyone?

Also, don't get distracted, I'm still waiting for evidence that Mr. O'Grady isn't a religious person.

In a lot of cases, but not all. There are definitely denominations which are happy to let others be wrong and go to Hell after they die, if they wish. Converting (or killing, whichever is easiest) infidels isn't one of the central strictures of the faith as it is with Islam.

Yeah she puts up red herrings and distractions constantly. But people don't tend to stick to a technique that consistently doesn't work so I'm hoping that if enough of us call her on it enough times that she'll switch to a more honest style of debating.

Actually those people tend to be sure that they worship the one true god, that they have the right answer and that all other religions are wrong.

Im sorry neither of you like me calling vinnie by a bigot. But that is what he is, its the traits he was displaying.

I put up no red herrings. Again, its not my fault neither of you can come down off your high horses long enough to admit when your wrong. Its your own faults you are assuming things not presented.

Im sure there are many christians who believe their faith is the "one true way". Im sure there are many other religions who believe that as well. Neither of which is what i believe. I do not believe their is a "one faith fits all" religion.

And im still waiting on proof that he is.

He never actually made the claims that you attributed to him, that's one of the reasons why he's making statements about your honesty. I don't really have an issue with a little name calling; religion tends to be an emotional subject, the discussion gets heated, it happens. My issue is that when asked to back up your claim about Mr. O'Grady, you keep changing the subject.
