No, you made your point quite clearly. The point you may be missing is that DK constantly plays these kinds of games when he is trying to defend an untenable position, which also hijacks the discussion from a topic uncomfortable for liberals into a semantic game.

I'm not sure that Palin's even as creditable a spokesman for them as Limbaugh, frankly. About the only attempt she seems to have made to "live the planks of [The Repubiclans'] platform" that anyone can point involved refusing her daughter an abortion and bringing her own kid with Downs' syndrome to term.

But, in all honesty, the party cant even agree on the issue of them being tolerant or not.

Lol, a campaign speech where he is trying to get beyond some issues that differ from the mainstream (though far from all) of the GOP. If you take campaign speeches as gospel, health care reform legislation would be developed by a coalition of health care experts and televised.

Dems and Repubs should get together and find some "common ground", things they can agree on and work from there.
It really does get tedious listening to you two groups sniping at each other. Plus, you don't get anything done!
There are more people registered as "Independant" or "Unenrolled" than Dems or Repubs combined.
And they need to start actually *listening* to their base! If people want pot legalized, legalize it etc. It's *supposed* to be all about what The People want not what rich lobbyists and corporations want!

That's wonderful Popeye and I agree with you.

Now tell me some practical solutions to get it accomplished.

Because what I find interesting here is the "Independents", who invariably are conservative lately, always sit on the sidelines pretending moral superiority and complaining about both parties without offering anything.

One thing I have noticed since the Republicans lost the last election is that there's a lot of people who are obviously at the hard right edge of the conservative spectrum describing themselves as independents, despite the fact that they spent most of the last four years bigging up Bush. I don't think that's a very convincing argument coming from somebody whose obviously marching in lockstep with the madder wing of the Republican party, to be honest.

Even radio talk show host Neal Boortz has said this. He has said:

1) The Republicans had control of Congress and never did anything they said they would.

2) They are too intolerant if another Republican differs from the party platform on just 1 thing.

3) The religious right will run the Republican party into oblivion with their "crusades".

Hell, now with they way many people are applying the word conservative, I need to start calling myself a constitutionalist or something else.

Maybe we need a strong third party. Although try something like that, along with mustering some credible results and I'd almost bet you could get the Donkeys and the Elephants to combine their efforts for the destruction of that. They seem rather protective of the little politburo of corruption.

Parties evolve, so railing against what "the Republicans" did yesteryear makes about as much sense as praising todays uber left Democrats for the comparatively Conservative agenda of JFK.
