Mercnbeth -> A Law Requiring Name Disclosure (3/7/2006 7:23:37 AM)

There have been a few who have posted threads wanting to disclose the names of people who are, in their minds, "predators" or "users" or "liars" or "frauds". It seems that one state has solved all the other problems facing their citizens and has decided to take on the problem head on. A New Jersey Assemblyman, Peter Biondi (Morris/Somerset) has introduced a bill which will require internet message board sites to maintain files with the legal names and addresses of it's members. Wonder how many "misunderstood spouses" will be posting if that goes into effect? It will be interesting to see how far this proposed legislation gets.

As a former home owner in NJ have they changed their real estate tax laws. I seem to remember they just asked for any/all the money you had left over from paying all the other taxes for the privilege of sending your kids to bad public schools, drove on bad, pot-hole infested roads where you paid tolls every mile and a half, and if you wanted anything done in business you put an envelope with $25,000.00 in your trash bin for the "garbage men" to pick up. But I guess having that "GREAT" weather year round is a trade off.

quote:

This bill would require an operator of any interactive computer service or an Internet service provider to establish, maintain and enforce a policy requiring an information content provider who posts messages on a public forum website either to be identified by legal name and address or to register a legal name and address with the operator or provider prior to posting messages on a public forum website.

The bill requires an operator of an interactive computer service or an Internet service provider to establish and maintain reasonable procedures to enable any person to request and obtain disclosure of the legal name and address of an information content provider who posts false or defamatory information about the person on a public forum website.

Would you post differently if CM was required to follow this proposed legislation?

You bet, I would then feel at ease, nay; compelled to hand out sincere and straightforward shitkicking to some of the clueless.

LOL,
Ron

Is this a state law they are trying to pass? If so, is it for sites that claim origination in New Jersey?

I would imagine he is going to be surprised when he finds out the identity of the Domme he has been chatting with is his Mom!

Why yes, I would then post everything under the name "Publius."

RavenMuse -> RE: A Law Requiring Name Disclosure (3/7/2006 8:31:38 AM)

The guy obviously knows feck all about the net. Even if a bill like that came in right across America.... whilst some would comply, most would simply move servers to countrys that didn't have such stupidity.

SirKenin -> RE: A Law Requiring Name Disclosure (3/7/2006 11:25:08 AM)

My name and address is posted on My website. I have linked to the website in this forum several times. I have no problem with it. I have nothing to hide (and if you want to swing by for a beer..... [:)])

No, what do I care if New Jersey police gets to know who I am? There's literally an ocean between us. By the way, how are they supposed to check my real name? Will I be required to send in a copy of my ID?

JohnWarren -> RE: A Law Requiring Name Disclosure (3/7/2006 11:39:18 AM)

I don't suppose the "lawmaker" considered just how a web owner could find out the "legal name" of anyone if they are providing a free service.

windchymes -> RE: A Law Requiring Name Disclosure (3/7/2006 12:00:03 PM)

New Jersey isn't exactly known for it's brilliant politicians. What we pay for car insurance and property taxes is obscene. It's making me seriously consider relocating back to my home state of Ohio.

If only Ohio had an ocean attached. No, Lake Erie doesn't count.

Isn't New Jersey the same state that has a law against talking on a cell phone while driving? And wasn't it not long ago that a similar law was proposed regarding ''drinking hot coffee and eating while driving'' - More intrusive nonsense from both parties.

I think you were smart to get out of there - not that Cali is much better!

Same sate with "right to work" act. Basically stupid ass-hats passed a law which says you cant pump your own gas to create more usless artifical jobs. Now I have some slak jawed idiot putting 93 octane in my Diesel car instead of diesel because he did too much crystal meth.

Nope. I try to post with the same candor and truthfulness that I would if you all knew my name and address. Of course, I occasionally come off as rude or mean in the process.

I'm still most certainly not in favor of this bill, though. I don't want some creep to be able to stalk me by claiming he didn't agree with what I've said. It's fundamentally unsafe.

Edited due to egregious spelling errors.

And that NOMC is the rub so to speak, Anybody could get this information simply by claiming they had been slandered.....a very dangerous thing. While reading this thread, I was wondering if anybody would clue into that fact, and since you did, I have to totally rethink my post.....What she said!!

Yeah, but that NJ proposal didn't say that these lists should be accessible to all members, just that they should be maintained and available for police business... The former, I think, would be a threat to safety indeed. The latter doesn't scare me, but seems to be rather impossible to enforce in practice (and therefore silly legislation bound to fail).

Let's see. I own in NJ. I pay over ten thousand just in school taxes and guess what...I have to send my wee ones to a catholic school, which I'm not very happy about, because my public school system sucks. I live in a very rural area of NJ and get nothing for my taxes other than my roads plowed in the winter. I have well water and my own septic system.
In the ten years that I've lived in this house I've seen my taxes more than double. Things haven't changed much here. The only reason I'm still in this state is because all of my family is here. It is a corrupt state, but as long as people continue to vote in the Repubicans and Democrats there is no hope of change. It is soooo deep. I have a few very good friends that both work for different state departments and they both say that they are encouraged not to work hard and be productive.

Getting back to the OP...no I wouldn't post if my identity was available to the public...much too dangerous in terms of my safety and privacy.

Can't say that I much complain about this. I like that I don't have to pump my own gas and get that smell all over my hands.
