DedicatedDom40 -> Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 8:38:40 PM)

Her yet-to-be published memoir has been slashed in price at amazon, from $28.99 down to $9.00 hardcover

Maybe its due to new competiton?

Not to hurt your fancy, but authors agree on a price per book before sales even take place. $2.00 per book at regular price, $1.25 per book on discount will make little difference on her endeavor. Second publishings, third, and so on have different rates also. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I hate to say it, but celebrities don't need agents much of the time to write this vile shit, so they make almost pure profit based on %. She'll make a handsome reward no matter what. That is, if she hasn't already in the forward.

Amazon has a habit of doing such, no matter the chatter.

luckydawg -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 8:47:14 PM)

Naw, it's that way with every book on Amazon. And the pre ordering always gets you a significant discount.

mnottertail -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 8:59:27 PM)

go buy a maasaki hatusumi book at significant discount even the ones in japanese only, that is simply not true, only the ones falling on their face are that heavily discounted.......the yawns.

luckydawg -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 9:43:47 PM)

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=maasaki+hatusumi+&x=20&y=21

Everyone of his books on Amazon is discounted, though none have the preordering discount, because none are on deck to come out shortly and be preordered.

And pre-oredering gets you an even bigger discount.

Are you going to follow me around trying to find an error again? Don't you have a life worth living?

Does anyone read links anymore?

Because everyone is missing the funniest part.

From the NY Daily News link:

When the failed vice presidential candidate's memoir hits shelves Nov. 17, it will have some competition from a lookalike tome that spoofs the title of her book.

"Going Rouge: An American Nightmare" bears a striking resemblance to Palin's book, "Going Rogue: An American Life." Both feature the photogenic politician in red, but the spoof has her against a backdrop of black thunder clouds and lightning, instead of the image of a blue sky scattered with clouds on the ex-governor’s book.

Kirata -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 10:19:32 PM)

Yanno, I gotta wonder what some of these people use for brains. The White House attacks on Fox pushed their ratings through the roof. And now we have these guys boosting Palin.

The faux-book will address Palin's background, her rise to prominence and "the nightmarish prospect of her continuing to dominate the nation's political scene"

Yeah right, keep it up, make it come true.

K.

Sorry Kirata, it's still funny.

"Going Rouge".  [sm=rofl.gif]

Especially when it comes out at the same time.

Way too funny.

travelgman -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/27/2009 11:32:08 PM)

I'm no palin fan by any measure. But the $9.00 thing has nothing to do with the sales of her book. Wal-Mart is making a big push into the online sales world. Where they do not dominate like they do in their stores. They have slashed many upcoming big name books to $9.00. Amazon is just following suite so as not to loose customers.

Heard it on NPR last week. You can look it up on the search engine of your choice as well.

luckydawg -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 1:46:34 AM)

"It's likely Palin will make more money when it's all said and done. "Going Rogue" catapulted to No. 1 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com after HarperCollins announced in late September it had moved up the release date of 1.5 million copies from spring to Nov. 17.

Palin will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" the day before the release of her book, which is currently listed at No. 6 on Amazon.com and No. 11 on Barnes & Noble.com."

Thats falling on her face"? Playing awfull loose with the definitions here.

The spoof book doesn't seem to be listed at all on Amazon or Barnes and Nobel. I doubt it is affecting her sales at all.

kittinSol -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 5:19:09 AM)

Does anyone know what the print run for Palin's book is?

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 5:42:55 AM)

NBC reported that Palin's publisher HarperCollins has ordered an initial print run of 1.5 million books, the same amount as for late Senator Edward Kennedy's just-released memoirs.

http://my.att.net/s/community.dll?ep=4&globalmsgboard=1&discussionID=252785433&catID=103&ck=

~~also in that article about the book.... just cus it made me laugh~~

Palins has a chapter on how exorcisms have helped,on her walk with God.Palin say's she has been exorcised of 12 witches and 21 evil spirits.

The title "Going Rogue," a pejorative term, referred to allegations that while she was running mate to Republican presidential candidate John McCain, Palin was also loose cannon surreptitiously plotting her own political ascent, including a possible 2012 White House run.

Palins book covers a wide range of topics, like the benefits of witch exorcisms, cooking moose testicles, and how to keep your teen from getting pregnant.

kittinSol -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 5:53:27 AM)

[sm=biggrin.gif] Thanks, tazzy :-) .

A one and a half million copies... *whistle*. How many of those will be remaindered, I wonder?

I also read she reportedly got a cool one and a half MILLION bucks advance.

I can't wait for the *kaching* repercussions into the coffers of Obama's treasury [8D] .

tazzygirl -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 5:59:04 AM)

Something that is odd... and Master just reminded me.... didnt she accept that money before she left office?

kittinSol -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 6:02:18 AM)

Palin's financial disclosure: Reuters.

Well according to the second link you posted...

Palin's book, in the meantime, written in just four months for a reported $7 million advance, is already a blockbuster before it's actually available. Its advance sales knocked Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" from the top spot on Amazon.com this month.

Not sure how you go from blockbuster to bargin bin. Maybe you were too busy laughing at the spoof book to actually read the whole article

kittinSol -> RE: Palin book now located in the bargain bin (10/28/2009 6:33:49 AM)

Stores have bought the book; it remains to be seen whether the public buys into the scam (perhaps as a joke, for the holidays?).

So your saying the quote from that article was lying? Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Still entertaining to watch the kids jump and yell. Maybe I will buy a copy just for the hell of it. My dad would read it so it wouldn't be a total waste and the numbers would go up, which will piss off some people and that can be fun too.

Huh? Nooooooooooooo. I'm saying that since the book isn't due to publish until November 17th, what you're seeing right now are sales to bookstores, not to individual buyers.

Buy a copy, by all means: like I said, it makes for a perfect holiday present for someone [;)] . And if push comes to shove, it can always be used to prop up a wonky table.
