Oops.

Someone created a monster.

Which they were all happy to see when it suited their agenda.  Wonder how they're feeling now?

Conservatives to challenge a dozen GOP candidates

In what could be a nightmare scenario for Republican Party officials, conservative activists are gearing up to challenge leading GOP candidates in more than a dozen key House and Senate races in 2010.

Conservatives and tea party activists had already set their sights on some of the GOP’s top Senate recruits — a list that includes Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida, former Rep. Rob Simmons in Connecticut and Rep. Mark Kirk in Illinois, among others.

But their success in Tuesday’s upstate New York special election, where grass-roots efforts pushed GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava to drop out of the race and helped Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman surge into the lead on the eve of Election Day, has generated more money and enthusiasm than organizers ever imagined.

Activists predict a wave that could roll from California to Kentucky to New Hampshire and that could leave even some GOP incumbents — Utah Sen. Bob Bennett is one — facing unexpectedly fierce challenges from their right flank.

.....In almost every situation, the lay of the land is the same. Whether it’s California, Illinois, Connecticut, New Hampshire or Kentucky, the NRSC has found a candidate who appears to be an exceptionally strong general election prospect — either well-known, well-financed or ideologically well-suited to the state’s politics — who is nevertheless meeting with tough resistance at the grass-roots level from activists who believe the conservative cause would be better served over the long term, even if it means the party nominee loses in the short term.

It is too bad that they feel that only the absolutely polarized neo-cons are where this country should be, and that they are willing to cannabalize themselves getting there....The GOP is floundering.

Some governors and mayoral races today, wonder how that is gonna go? Who is gonna provide the blow by blow from the right?

I gotta agree with you 100% on this one Otter.  The GOP doesnt seem to understand a 240 year old concept "United We Stand, Divided We Fall"  The same thing will happen to the GOP that happened aobut 110 years ago when they kicked Roosevelt out for being too moderate and He went and formed the "Bull Moose Party"  The resulting split of the vote among the republicans paved the way for a Democrat victory.  Unfortunately, with our congress headed WAYYYYY left, We just cant afford this.  One party or the other needs to head to the center and straighten out this crap that We have gotten ourselves into.

Sounds great; the GOP has to go through this self destruction in order to emerge as the force it should be, and more widely restore the US political system to some semblance of sane and collective moderation, because its as sure as anything that what the GOP did to itself over the last decades spurred on extremism on all sides.

I think Ellen's on the money here: if this is the only way that the Republicans can free themselves from the demented neocon element, then it has to be a good thing, I'd have thought.

Are they freeing themselves or becoming more controlled by the neo-cons?

If they weren't trying to free themselves from that lot, the neocons wouldn't be trying this on in the first place, would they?

This is brilliant. Simply brilliant. The people who brought you Sarah Palin have decided that the reason nobody in America takes them seriously is because they aren't quite crazy enough yet.

Simply brilliant.

I don't belong to the NRA because they are not extreme enough......so this may be a brilliant play after all.

Hillary Clinton was one of those 'carpet baggers'. She never lived in NY until she wanted to be a Senator.

It is amazing how the rest of us foolishly think there are some subjects who's most important aspect is "Democrats suck". Thank you for your constant, constant, constant unending refrain to remind us that "democrats suck" is not only an answer, it is the answer.

Apparently the voters of Virginia see things the same way. They just threw the democrats out of the state house. New Jersey might just follow suit. After spending 20 million of his own money, John Corzine is losing there as well.

Sarah Palin.

But if she wins she will only serve half a term and let Hillary finish the rest.

Looks like you the socialist is threatened that true Americans that don't follow your ideology are actually gaining power.

No, not at all. Because Marx teaches us that just as capitalism replaced feudalism, socialism must inevitably replace capitalism. Therefore, it is only a matter of time before our social and political system evolves to the next level of advancement, and these disruptions are only minor deviations from the preordained course which our society is destined to follow. If anything, they serve only to further inflame the masses and lay a more fertile bed for the seeds of revolution. So really, I'm not disturbed by this at all. History is on our side.

I think I missed that part of the Constitution.

I guess you could use the Communist Mannifesto and the history of the USSR as your guide to what is happening to this country. However, socialism too my understanding can't last very long if there is a lack of resources or capital with in a nation. Remember that socialism only does great while capitol and production of a nation still exists. And, last time I checked we have negative 12,000,000,000,000 in our bank account. If anything, we are following the path of the French before they dethroned King Luis the XV (I believe). Here comes Napolean Part 2.

By the way, Marx discussed how Capitalism replaced Mercantilism while Mercantilism replaced Feudalism.

My goodness - this "socialist" thing again? Many Americans would have a heart attack and die on the spot if they ever met a real socialist it seems, given their reaction to the current President and his ideas.

Maybe its all just a relative thing.
