Aylee,   then I will add you to the list of healthy people who have no trouble eating properly with reasonable RX costs and top rate quality of health.  Consider yourself blessed.

What do your pills cost for a whole year?

People here are so fat the tables and chairs dont fit them.  So the grocery store must not sell anything with out HFCS.

The Amish plow fields- give blood.  People I see could barely walk- and I doubt could even give blood.

What pills?

I take benedryal for allergies.  I think that it is around five dollars a month.  I sometimes take ibuprofen for menstraul cramps or sore muscles.  That is probably a couple dollars a month.  Not really sure, as I buy the REALLY big bottles.

I do give blood about every 8 weeks.

Eating properly?  Most of the time.  I cook most of my food.  It is not the pre-packaged stuff.  Now.. . when I travel for work, it is all restaurant food.  However many places have soup or salad bars.

While I personally would like to loose a few pounds, I am not overweight.  I am in the "green" on the BMI chart and whatever color on the height/weight chart.  My cholesterol is fine and so is my blood pressure.

I get some sort of excercise most days.  Although I have days I do very very little.  I walk places if I can instead of driving.  I also chase a two year old around.

I will agree that a good many Americans do NOT fix their own food, instead they rely on pre-packaged stuff and take-out.

But no, it is really not that difficult to eat fairly healthy.

I wished I had stated to eat healthy at an earlier age.   It does effect a person.

the Amish they don't do just fine. They have a very high rate of genetic disease and have some serious issues in regard to domestic abuse.

This interests me. I have tried to google the incidence and prevalence of congenital diseases among the Amish, but did not get very far. Some minutes ago I have sent an e-mail to an Amish website with a request for information.

Perhaps, however, you can tell me more, DK?

The Amish have a much higher prevalence of Maple Syrup Urine Disease, Glutaric aciduria 1, Crigler-Najjar syndrome. There may be others as well those are just the ones I know about.

This clinic treats the amish and mennonites in PA with these illnesses and might have more info:

Thank you. I will approach them.

I googled some more congenital diseases among the Amish, one of them being microcephalia.

Unfortunately, the clinic's website does not offer an e-mail address.

back to your original concern about your UM's traumatic event, here's what I do.  I bring along their favorite stuffed animal but don't let them know until the nurse brings the tray around.  then I whip out bunny, or wendybear, or whoever is the favorite at the time.  instant calming.  while I am doing this I also talk about their favorite things, treats, games, whatever.  so both things distract them in different ways.

I noticed on the chart posted earlier that the rotavirus vaccine is back?  my elder had it when it was on the market the first time, and it wasn't available for the 2nd.  the difference in the number of gastrointestinal illness between the two is remarkable...I wish it had been available for the 2nd.
