McCain camp fires back

Top aides to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign hit back at Sarah Palin Friday and Saturday, calling the former vice presidential nominee’s soon-to-be-released book “revisionist and self serving” “fiction.”

Campaign manager Steve Schmidt, who emerges as Palin’s nemesis in the advance excerpts that have surfaced from her forthcoming account of the campaign, “Going Rogue,” told POLITICO Saturday that Palin's charges about him were made up.

"It's all fiction," he said.

FACT CHECK: Palin's book goes rogue on some facts

WASHINGTON – Sarah Palin's new book reprises familiar claims from the 2008 presidential campaign that haven't become any truer over time.

Ignoring substantial parts of her record if not the facts, she depicts herself as a frugal traveler on the taxpayer's dime, a reformer without ties to powerful interests and a politician roguishly indifferent to high ambition.

...PALIN: Rails against taxpayer-financed bailouts, which she attributes to Obama. She recounts telling daughter Bristol that to succeed in business, "you'll have to be brave enough to fail."

THE FACTS: Palin is blurring the lines between Obama's stimulus plan — a $787 billion package of tax cuts, state aid, social programs and government contracts — and the federal bailout that Republican presidential candidate John McCain voted for and President George W. Bush signed.

Palin's views on bailouts appeared to evolve as McCain's vice presidential running mate. In September 2008, she said "taxpayers cannot be looked to as the bailout, as the solution, to the problems on Wall Street." A week later, she said "ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy."

...PALIN: Says Ronald Reagan faced an even worse recession than the one that appears to be ending now, and "showed us how to get out of one. If you want real job growth, cut capital gains taxes and slay the death tax once and for all."

THE FACTS: The estate tax, which some call the death tax, was not repealed under Reagan and capital gains taxes are lower now than when Reagan was president. Economists overwhelmingly say the current recession is far worse. The recession Reagan faced lasted for 16 months; this one is in its 23rd month. The recession of the early 1980s did not have a financial meltdown. Unemployment peaked at 10.8 percent, worse than the October 2009 high of 10.2 percent, but the jobless rate is still expected to climb.

...PALIN: She says her team overseeing the development of a natural gas pipeline set up an open, competitive bidding process that allowed any company to compete for the right to build a 1,715-mile pipeline to bring natural gas from Alaska to the Lower 48.

THE FACTS: Palin characterized the pipeline deal the same way before an AP investigation found her team crafted terms that favored only a few independent pipeline companies and ultimately benefited a company with ties to her administration, TransCanada Corp. Despite promises and legal guidance not to talk directly with potential bidders during the process, Palin had meetings or phone calls with nearly every major candidate, including TransCanada.

...PALIN: Describing her resistance to federal stimulus money, Palin describes Alaska as a practical, libertarian haven of independent Americans who don't want "help" from government busybodies.

THE FACTS: Alaska is also one of the states most dependent on federal subsidies, receiving much more assistance from Washington than it pays in federal taxes. A study for the nonpartisan Tax Foundation found that in 2005, the state received $1.84 for every dollar it sent to Washington.

Not only is it worse now, on average people have 3 times the debt now than they did in '82.

The McCain camp ? Lets see some names...I for one don't believe unnamed sources..

kittinSol -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 5:51:38 PM)

So, you'll believe Palin over McCain? How very telling about your level of gullability [8D] .

You will be hearing a lot from Sarah Palin in the future.

AnimusRex -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 5:56:15 PM)

It's because Sarah! is not one of those "elite media types" who use stuff like "facts" and "check sources"; Sarah! is a MOM; she know how real Americans feel and love Baby Jesus and isn't gonna play "gotcha" about what are "facts" or real truth that all real American MOMS know. Sarah! is the mavericky type of gal who wears Carhardtt jackets and know what side to flip the bacon in the morning, unlike the ivory tower elitists who pal around with terrorists and use "books" and read "newspapers" and listen to hip-hop and hate America.

Sarah! is like all the MOMS who live in real America and drive F-150 trucks and listen to Toby Keith and understand what is real and not and doesn't need the filter of the MSM to praise Baby Jesus. Sarah! knows how to shoot a gun as good as Chuck Norris and wouldn't ever "press 1 for English" and Sarah! has good old time values from when a man knew how to treat a lady and isn't one of the hairy legged feminazis who enjoy aborting retarded babies.

Sarah! knows that "facts" are what the liberals use to oppress the hard working white people who would have gotten that job if it weren't for quotas, and that Socialist college professors who use things like "numbers" are really just trying to oppress Sarah! and MOMS like her all across the real America.

I have no doubt she'll be heard from. Sooner or later she'll host the conservative version of the Jerry Springer show. As for being a serious political force, she's kind of screwed that up permanently. Sooner or later she'll be recognized as the joke she is and only those clueless, mindless minions of the conservative fringe right won't be laughing.

And, she is fuckable.

What are you talking about?

Did you read the link?

Even the excerpt I provided had a named source and the article has more.

I hope so.

In fact, I'm organizing a Vote Sarah campaign for the Republican nomination in 2012.

Not only will it be exceedingly amusing but it will guarantee an Obama win.

I bet we all will. She obviously adhered to the celebrity bullshit contract in one second flat, which I predicted as soon as she appeared on the fucking scene last year, so yeah, we're going to hear from the cunt 'till she carks it. All more the pity, considering the sorry state of the popular culture scene in America today, because it's already abysmally low, but I suppose it can't get better until it hits rock bottom... Sarah's here to help us reach that proverbial pit-level of convo.

Thank you, Palin [8|] .

servantforuse -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 7:04:40 PM)

Don't forget to watch her on Oprah's show this coming Monday, the 16th..Maybe Oprah is a switch ?

kittinSol -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 7:16:03 PM)

Stop kidding me, will you? I never watch Oprah. I'm not going to make an exception for the sake of the Queen of the Welfare for Wingnuts. Merci beaucoup, mais non, merci :-). J'ai des limites, et ma limite a pour nom "Palin" :-). She is great talk-show material though... it's quite obvious, from a business point of view.

Why the fringe of the Republican party keeps on banking their hopes on her is beyond anyone's comprehension though, but I fucking well hope they keep on doing it: it's entertaining, and it ensures they shoot their own credibility in the foot each time Palin's name travels on the airwaves :-) .

tazzygirl -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 7:18:15 PM)

Any polls recently on her electability?

I keep on hearing this... as a woman who adores women, I must say that while I see that Palin is indeed a pretty woman, her essence is absolutely unattractive. She's pretty, but so UNFUCKABLE, it's actually sad when people say that she is "fuckable". She is as devoid from beauty as possible.

kittinSol-
You do understand don't you, that for all men, our first, last, and most enduring sexual relationship is with our right hand?
And the only two real criteria for being fuckable are:
1. A pulse
2. A warm orifice

And I 've known guys who will negotiate on #1.

So given all that....she is indeed fuckable. If I were wearing plugs in both ears.

tazzygirl -> RE: McCain camp: Palin account 'all fiction' (11/14/2009 8:27:38 PM)

LOL... time to buy up stock on ear plugs!
