According to Keith Olbermann other presidents who bowed are Richard Nixon and Dwight Eisenhower.

Eisenhower bowed to Charles de Gaulle of France and Richard Nixon to Jiro Hito of Japan who bombed Pearl Harbour.

Seriously!

What is President Obama doing???

The United States of America is a country founded as the antithesis to royality!

Maybe Obama should have learned from past mistakes.

Brain -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 7:07:40 PM)

You guys are such inconsistent partisan hypocrites. Like I could hear you yelling and screaming about all the stupid things George Bush did. The best thing about George Bush's presidency was that he avoided getting hit by a shoe. No, I'm wrong. The best thing is he left.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 8:28:53 PM)

Last time I checked George Bush is no longer The President.

slvemike4u -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 8:30:26 PM)

How often do you need to check?Perhaps there is a memory supplement that might help with that.

a Classical Liberal Argument"......WTF,please explain how this has anything to do with liberals or conservatives for that matter. While your at it try to make a case for our country having the right to tell the rest of the world that"Royalty of ANY sort is wrong and its high time it comes to an end on this planet"
That last is a classical argument too.....but discretion prohibits me from specifying just what type of argument!

Your opinion that this clears everything up is even more troubling than your apparent memory issues!

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 8:52:14 PM)

How is it that any modern Liberal can support Royalism?

Really... Royalism?

Especially the xenophopic, superior race royalism that is Japan?

tazzygirl -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 8:54:02 PM)

And you care about other countries why?

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 8:57:47 PM)

I care about the Rights of Man

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 9:01:02 PM)

BTW... Japan is one of the most racists countries on the planet.

If the United States praticed today, the racism that Japan pratices, I would imagine tazz you would be, and quite rightly, beside yourself.

Quite a leap you made there FDD....lets see if I can illustrate it for you....you put forth the opinion that it was high time the world got rid of all Royalty.....I suggested we had no right to tell the rest of the world what to do with their Royals....you make the amazing leap to  supporting Royalty.
Is that pretty much the way you remeber it(ooops, sorry about that I really didn't mean to bring up memory issues again...tell you what just scroll back and confirm my version of events...and for the love of pete....please try some supplements)

You assume i would object to being treated like.. perhaps.. a slave? ~smirks

Brain -> RE: Mr. President, quit bowing to royals!!! (11/16/2009 9:40:13 PM)

Obama's not perfect, but I do love his behaviour. He is always respectful to everybody and is slowly making up (a little) for some of the rudeness of previous presidents. He is always a perfect gentleman. I LOVE that! Americans are known all over the world as being ignorant louts with no taste, loud mouths and bad manners...I am glad finally one of us is acting like an educated adult!

However, once again, the criticism is of the question and comes without an answer to the question. Seems to be a simple yes or no - care to answer it?

Is this a confidence builder for the reputation of the people Obama has decided to include in his inner circle of advisers?

No, I don't care to answer it because it is a complete non-issue that would not even be talked about if Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh and the other conservative commentators didn't seize on it to create controversy, and ratings.

And I am sick and tied of hearing about the silliness of diplomacy in theses matters.

.....a very telling statement there FDD. Essentially you appear to be arguing that US politicians, of all stripes, should throw diplomacy out of the window and just be rude to foreigners whose ways are not wholly American.
So what next? Should US presidents ignore all diplomatic protocols at all times when faced with foreign heads of state?

And the winning answer in the Double Jeopardy round is..........................................................George Bush.

Condenscending comments usually do not show respect, so I have not seen much of it. It matters not to me though, as I call them as I see them.

If I meant it as condescending I would not have included the qualifying phrase that preceded it.

quote:

Yeah the internet is a good place to learn, but 12 years of doing it 5 out of seven days a week, in an environment where it really matters, tends to give a different perspective.

Well, I don't know what it is you have been doing for 12 years but my knowledge of it is firsthand, though as I admitted it is limited.

quote:

You need to reread things, as you often do, because I was not complaining. I said, and stand by that the angle, and other nuances of a bow are substantive in a discussion. Whether the bow was done or not is pretty much just Obama bashing (did you miss that post?).

Then again Master Chen instructed me in very acute ways, for the first several months of me learning to bow, so that may make me a little less objective.

No I didn't miss that post nor am I ignorant of proper protocol regarding bowing.

My point was the Japanese tend to be very tolerant of foreigners who at least make a proper attempt.

And I have no idea who Master Chen is or why I should care who he is.

Maybe we should just drop a bomb or two on them and end all that racism.

Oh wait..........I think we already tried that.
