They said they want to know WTF Obama thinks he's doing, stepping into a big stinking pile of Socialism while holding their money?

This article was on the Reuters site, no less:

quote:

China questions costs of U.S. healthcare reform

Guess what? It turns out the Chinese are kind of curious about how President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform plans would impact America’s huge fiscal deficit. Government officials are using his Asian trip as an opportunity to ask the White House questions. Detailed questions.

Boilerplate assurances that America won’t default on its debt or inflate the shortfall away are apparently not cutting it. Nor should they, when one owns nearly $2 trillion in assets denominated in the currency of a country about to double its national debt over the next decade.

Nothing happening in Washington today should give Beijing any comfort or confidence about what may happen tomorrow. Healthcare reform was originally promoted as a way to “bend the curve” on escalating entitlement costs, the major part of which is financing Medicare and Medicaid. That is looking more and more like an overpromised deliverable.

For instance, a new study from the U.S. government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services finds that the healthcare reform bill recently passed in the House of Representatives would increase healthcare spending to 21.3 percent of GDP by 2019 compared with 20.8 percent under current law. That’s bending the curve the wrong way. The study also questions the “long-term viability” of the $500 billion in Medicare cuts meant to help pay for expanded insurance coverage.

I wish our media would learn to ask this president tough questions...

Are you kidding?  Their next task is to explain why it is O.K. for our president to bow to the son of a defeated...by us...emperor who turned out not to be quite as divine as the populace thought he was.

They question the cost and wisdom of spending money to make sure our population stays healthy?

They didn't question the cost or wisdom of taking their borrowed money and using it to invade three countries and spend 1 million dollars a day, for 8 years with no end in sight?

Inscrutable, those Celestials.

So let me see if I have this straight.

You are saying that China, a communist/socialist country, is criticizing Obama's socialist policies and you are in support of that criticism.

An amazing twist of logic.

Nice try at deception here.

This isn't an article by Reuters but a blog hosted by reuters. a blog authored by a well known US conservative.

Huh???  China offers free government health care to its people as of 2008, and you question this President of caving after all Bush has done to appease China.  Perhaps you should look into just how much money Bush borrowed before you blame Obama.  Gee I thought the free market would take care of the 100's of billions bush borrowed to pay for Bushes war  Oh wait the market left bush and his ideas

Ugh, american politics.

Someone unelectably right wing by most standards being called socialist.

Blame everything on party A/B, delete as appropriate.

Someone needs to do a little more research on China, and its health care system.

Its not even close to universal coverage, and it is very expensive(by chinese standards, to americans it seems dirt cheap).

I play with a Chinese sub who travells there several times a year, and that is not all how she described the chinese medical system. But that is andecotal, as was your mysterious company owned by the Chinese gov that gves you great benefits.

But here is a news article from just over 2 weeks ago. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/28/AR2009102805081.html

I will be glad to examine any sort of evidence that I am wrong.

Chinas healthcare is not straight forward.

They are trying to provide universal healthcare, but not succeeding in some rural areas. They are working on it, from what little I know it sounds like they're heading towards something pretty similar to the french system. I don't know where anyone got the whole 'expensive' idea from, despite what Chinas communist roots may lead you to believe, govt spending isn't actually that huge....and on healthcare is especially little, which is probably most of the problem.

You could say that they do have a universal healthcare system....but one that, although is pretty good for a country of that income level in some ways, is woefully inadequate in others.

Regardless, it sounds exceptionally unlikely that they would criticise attempts to improve the american system.

No DC woody, 300 million Chinese have no insurance at all. Thats about 25% of them.

and the Gov "free plan" is stingy, causing the users to pay out huge amounts (in Chinese terms).

And thats leaving out the bribes...

By that standard you can say in America we have universal coverage also, but we don't.
