Actually a full read of Psalm 109 leaves no doubt.

Yeah, as usual, so says you. Well fine, you are welcome to support your interpretation that murder (specifically) is intended if you think you can do so from the text. Claiming it as a fact and pointing out objections to the hatred being expressed does not by itself make the case.

I will also observe that nobody yet has even established that the verse (109:8) is not simply being cited out of context, which, as we all know, is rather common among people who are fond of Biblical references.

Not to spoil anyone's fun, of course. Carry on.

Once again, I see the partisan split down the middle. And in the process, I see that I feel neither side is taking a look at the truth of the situation. The leftward posters have seemed to take the view that this is a call to assassinate Obama and so is a threat to violence. The rightward posters seem equally sure that this is an innocent hope that Obama gets voted out of office in the next election.

What it seems like to me is rather simple. The Christian rightists (and I am not tarring all Christians with this brush but only those involved in marketing and displaying this thought) are pretty obviously of the belief that it would be a good thing if Obama were to be removed by any means, including death. They think that it's such a good idea that they want to bring it up to God (by praying for it) and let him sort it out.

It very much seems to me that this is not a call to violence. It is a rather disgusting display of rage and the hope for pain against someone with whom they disagree. However, seeing how there are some who call themselves Christians who have been painting Obama as the actual anti-Christ since the election campaign, such ugliness is not unexpected.

In the final analysis, it is free speech in action and their right to say it. Not being offended has never been one of our consitutional rights.

Nice try Merc. I hated Bush but would never tolerate anyone threatening his life. I went to a lot of anti Bush demonstrations and never saw any of those signs. If I saw them I would have contacted the Secret Service just as people did in response to these threats against Obama.

It seems odd to me that so much of this is documented on right wing blogs but the cons who collected them at the time seemed unable to dial the phone and do their civic duty.

Ken, I have never seen the tee shirt or a poster of the subject of this thread, however I would never represent they don't exist.

At the risk of having myself labeled as "right wing"; which always generates a laugh when I'm talking about my posts on CM with friends, my reaction to the Bush hating death threat posters would be the same as it is for these - laugh.

I'm not one who believes that a person's ignorance exposed in public like this deserves anything more. Besides, some of those Bush posters were down right funny.

Yes, there are very dangerous people out there, the lunatic fringe, on both sides. Its the credibility they are given by others that validates them - not their poster or tee shirt.

Ah, the nectar of the Irish. I'll keep that in mind if we're ever drinking together. But if you are not constitutionally opposed to the idea, try Gentleman Jack sometime, sipped neat.

At my place we can split the difference - unblended scotch. Currently I'm on a 'Bowman' kick; although Oban is still my favorite on a cold night in front of the fire. However, it just doesn't get that cold here!

Now that we can agree on. Never had Oban though. Might try it when I finish off the Glenfiddich.

An excellent point, well made. Still, that is a lot of alleged Christians' only interaction with anything they can claim that Christ said, isn't it?

Just when I thought this thread was turning to shit, some of my favorite men stand up and rescue it.

I'm not sure but I suspect God approves of whiskey himself.

I'll have my slut fetch me a Seagrams and Seven. I like a little sweet in my drink, I am such a sour and bitter ole prick ya know.

Ron

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night

1st Chorus
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala

lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala

The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night

2nd Chorus
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala

lalalalalalala
lalalalalalala

Ahhhhh, it'll surely cure what ails ya..........

Just as well, methinks, given that a lot of what 'tis said he said he very likely didn't. I know, at least, in my many years, I've always found those who simply love Christ infinitely preferable as company and friends to those who love the Bible more.

Very true. Christ was a good man, by most accounts, but the Bible was mostly compiled by cunts who should have been shot.

What a stupid silly thread as usual. Theatrics plain and simple...no truth or proof...Just outlandish accusations against good people for political gain.

That's like you making an accusation against me and expect me to provide proof that it is not true...It is your responsibility to make an accusation then prove it.
