There weren't no bishoprics when Jesus was around.

And as for the magic numbers at the end of the quote, nice to see that gematriya live on in fundamentalist Christianity.

I stand behind my previous comments on the subject, I laughed.

I'm not one who believes that a person's ignorance exposed in public like this deserves anything more. Besides, some of those Bush posters were down right funny.

Yes, there are very dangerous people out there, the lunatic fringe, on both sides. Its the credibility they are given by others that validates them - not their poster or tee shirt.

The problem is in the degree.

You had some protesting Bush with outrageous signs.  You had some doing the same with Obama.

But do a search on psalm 109/Obama and see how many crazy bloggers are promoting this nonsense.

And it only takes one to be dangerous.

Its not more outrageous than the vile stuff spewed at huffington post or moveon.

It would have similar value as doing a search on all the "crazy bloggers" promoting the death of Bush; serving only to confirm my position. Then again, until he's out of office, you hold the "I told you so card" if anything bad does happen. Personally, and for no other reason other than not incurring another example of misguided martyr worship; I'd throw myself on a grenade if it was tossed at the feet of Obama. If I did pray - it would be that he got nothing worse than the cold I just got over for however long he's in office. BTW - The same would hold true for Bush who, as it's turning out, was only a more experienced incompetent person holding the same office.

However, getting back to your important point....

Come to think of it, I remember seeing a report that Oswald was wearing a "Death to Kennedy - THE Anti-Christ' tee-shirt under the clothing he was wearing in that famous picture of him holding the rifle on one of the conspiracy websites. I think they took the original negative and held it up to the sun during a total eclipse in the southern hemisphere. Maybe you can find that link too. It would substantiate your point.

Because the link was from Huffington, even though it has been widely reported in most major news sources.

But, of course, we must remember the evil liberal news media conspiracy.

So naturally they will all say the same thing.

Palin is TOTALLY ridiculous and I am so afraid she is going to run in 2012. This country might really elect her!

Things are worse and worse every day thanks to Christian extremists.

I wish I could think up a good short name for them.
I wish Palin would retire.

I see no difference between Christian extremistism and the 911 guys. None whatsoever. They are criminally insane, believing that what they are doing is some sort of holy crusade and that murder is okay!

I feel so worried for Obama. He isn't perfect and probably can't do everything he promised. But he's a good man, I believe, and trying hard. And he has some intelligence.

At my place we can split the difference - unblended scotch. Currently I'm on a 'Bowman' kick; although Oban is still my favorite on a cold night in front of the fire. However, it just doesn't get that cold here!

My camp fires are of oak, ash, cherry and walnut, but I am warmed inside by bourbon.

I thank the Ulstermen that brought distilling technology to the new world, and the Whiskey Rebellion for driving it solidly to the southern areas.

I will also observe that nobody yet has even established that the verse (109:8) is not simply being cited out of context, which, as we all know, is rather common among people who are fond of Biblical references.

An excellent point, well made. Still, that is a lot of alleged Christians' only interaction with anything they can claim that Christ said, isn't it?

I expect it could be claimed that Christ spake the Psalms but as the Psalms were penned a couple of thousand years before he is alleged to have lived I also expect that to indicate a high degree of cognizant dissonance.

Come to think of it, there was a strong evangelical sentiment against Kennedy because of his Catholicism.

And that was particularly strong in the southern states and in Dallas.

But see if anything in the link or the excerpt below sparks a sense of deja vu.

JFK Blown Away--Hooray! - Professor Wilkes - University of Georgia

Later that morning there were disparaging protests by right-wingers against JFK along the route of the presidential motorcade as it traveled from the airport to downtown Dallas.  As the motorcade drove through the suburbs, with President Kennedy only minutes from death, an unfriendly-looking man in a business suit stood on a sidewalk in an aggressive posture holding a protest sign which screamed: “Because of high regard for the presidency I hold you JFK and your blind socialism in complete contempt.”

Blessed are the cheese makers

'ya know, audio recording quality was quite poor back then. Maybe the scribe didn't hear correctly...

Bearded Man: Could you be quiet, please? What was that?
Wiseguy: I don't know, I was too busy talking to Bignose!
Spectator I: I think it was "Blessed are the cheesemakers".
Bearded Man's Wife: Aha, what's so special about the cheesemakers?
Bearded Man: Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.
Wiseguy: See, if you hadn't been going on we'd have heard that, Bignose.
Bignose: Hey, say that once more, I'll smash your bloody face in!
Wiseguy: Oh, better keep listening, might be a bit about "Blessed are the Bignoses".
Brian: Oh, lay off him!
Wiseguy: Oh, you're not so bad yourself, conkface. Where are you two from? Nose City?
Wiseguy: One more time, mate, I'll take you to fucking cleaners!
Bignose's Wife: Language! And don't pick your nose!
Bignose: I wasn't going to pick my nose! I'm gonna thump him!
Spectator II: Hear that, blessed are the Greek!
Bearded Man: The Greek?
Spectator II: Hmm. Well, apparently he's going to inherit the earth.
Bearded Man: Did anyone catch his name?
Bignose's Wife: You're not gonna thump anybody!
Bignose: I'll thump him if he calls me "Bignose" again!
Wiseguy: Oh, shut up, Bignose!
Bignose: Ha, right! I warned you! I really will slug you! Saaah...
Bignose's Wife: Oh, it's the meek! Blessed are the meek! Oh, that's nice, innit? I'm glad they're getting something because they
had a hell of a time.

I seem to remember a hippy (liberal) called Lynette Squeaky Fromme I believe who attempted to assassinate President Ford. This works both ways, and as I said before it doesn't matter who's in office, there will be someone who attempts to assassinate them. The real problem is that when you elect a guy who is a pure socialist, and voted with the democrats 96% of the time, that has a tendency to bring out even more wackos. A moderate will have enough people gunning for him, much less a socialist/communist. The main difference between socialism and communism, is that with socialism you get to vote in the people who take most of your paycheck.

The Socialist Party candidate for President of the U.S., Norman Thomas, said
this in a 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the
name of "liberalism, " they will adopt every fragment of the socialist
program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing
how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a
Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has
adopted our platform."

It'll be interesting to see what happens if you do ever elect somebody like that, rather than a right leaning centrist, then.

Xtians?

Corruption from the Greek, where "X" is the first letter in "Christ." This is also the genesis of the Chi-Rho symbol (first three letters of "Christ" in Greek). Like Xmas.

The story is often incorrectly told about Constantine seeing a cross in the sky and converting to Christianity. Actually (assuming the story is true at all--another famous one about the Donation of Constantine was proved false in the late Middle Ages), he saw an "X," first letter of Christ, and provided for the tolerance of Christians (and the Greek Christian Byzantine Empire).

Squeaky was a liberal? Hippy sure but liberal? Her leader is a neo nazi racist which is, despite the rights protests, a far right ideology.
