Just curious about how others feel on this........do you see a collar as being equal to, less than, or more valuable than a wedding ring? Or do you even see the two as being in the same category?

Playing the devil's advocate here heh heh ........could you give one or the other up? You don't have to answer, btw, I don't intend any of this to start trouble with anyone's home life.

i gave up my wedding ring, for reasons far exceeding my need for a collar. If my Master wished to remove my collar, i would have no choice but to give it up.

i tend to see the "roles" of wife and slave as being much different from each other. But that has only to do with my opinion and my internal needs. i know there are slaves here who are married to their Masters, and one of my dearest slave friends is also married to hers. my particular opinion of how slavery fits into my life is not an attempt to discount what others have.

In my life, the only one that plays a role is the collar. My owner would not marry property. So the collar is more important to -me-. I did give up the option of ever being married again(or at least for as long as he find me pleasing enough to keep) or ever being a lover/girlfriend when I became his. So yes, I could and did give one of them up :).

They mean different things to me too and see them both of significant importance.

To answer the question you posed to ownedgirlie: I could give my collar up before my wedding ring. Reasons:

1. My collar is representative of my slavery to Master. It represents an intimate, private, inner commitment to a Master/slave relationship. Its not there to advertise to the world what Master and my relationship is...it represents something to us, privately.

2. My wedding ring represents Master and my relationship and union to the outside world. Everyday people can look at my finger and comment "Oh your married"...which in essence means that I'm owned, or claimed.

3. Wedding ring is a worldly (external) thing to me, a collar is an internal thing...so to give up my *collar* would make no difference whatsoever, that internal reality of Master and my connection would still be there.

I do see them both as symbols of a defined relationship. One is wrapped around my love which I give freely, the other wrapped around my power which was taken from me. My wedding ring encompasses every part and parcel .. the entirity of 'me' and would never have been placed on my finger if the collar was not already attached. They are not equally important to me. The collar can exist without the wedding ring.. that wedding ring, for me, can not exist without the collar.

IMO they are both seperate but equal signs the wedding ring to me being a sign of love and fidelty between two who choose to become one and share theyre lives together. thus showing the outside world she/he is my wife/husband and i have laid claim to her. the collar is a sign between just us that i own her/him. So i guess to me they are both a symbol of ownership in a sense as the wedding ring shows the world you own her or him and the collar shows the two that you submit to your Master/Dom/Domme and therefore he or she owns you. not sure if this is coming out right as im a bit distracted with moving tomorrow lol

Ok.. got my answer... BOTH.. combination of both at all times... not having to give up one for the other... makes this so much easier on both of U/us. Specially when I get both on the same day.. big smilezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

To me it's the same as being masochistic and being submissive. THey are different dynamics but easily combine together.

I could be married to someone and not in a Ds or Ms relationship with them and vice versa. Or I could be married to someone and involved in a Ds or Ms relationship with them.

I find it fascinating why M/s couples become married when there are no legal, medical, or social needs that are lacking, but for some romantic connection it gives them something they desire and it works.

And absolutely in no way do I consider one better than the other.

Since your question used the term "valuable", the wedding ring would be the easy choice.

Perhaps I'm taking this a bit too literally.

very good question, Level, thank you.

I see a collar as a personal and intimate symbol of a bond between the giver and wearer. The collar signifies an agreement of power sharing reached mutually. The bond it represents has as many specific definitions as it has givers and wearers.

I see a wedding ring as a legal and/or religious symbol of the joining of two people as partners and lifemates.

I am married to my Master. I dont think that I could give up either my wedding ring or my collar. I think that if I had to...it would be devistating to me as a whole.

I look at it the same way.
Both are important for different reasons.

I had been married for over 15 years, and did give up the ring. I've not been collared, but hopefully one day. I will never marry again.

They are very different things and which one an individual would prefer would largely depend on their life circumstances. For instance, if you want to have children I would think being married would be the best thing for them.
