has there been any study done regarding whether or not the rock is anywhere near dense enough to depict reagan as he actually was?

I'm still not sure if I'm happy about Theodore Roosevelt being on it.

Seriously, Washington and Jefferson help to found the country and Lincoln held it together. Roosevelt (arguably) may have done some good things but nothing rising to the level of the other three.

The sculptor was apparently a big fan of Roosevelt.  There was a lot of controversy about it back then too.

The connection is a very close one to Mt Rushmore....Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mt Rushmore, was originally commissioned for the Stone Mountain project. Borglum was a member of the KKK and a member of its Imperial Kloncilium.

Do you have a source for that?

Everything I have seen suggests he was never a member and his association with the Klan was based on their funding of the Stone Mountain project.

You know Ron, I haven't heard the phrase, "brilliant legal scholor" lately. Have they found any other articles by him other than the one about kids having the right to sue their parents or whatever it was about?
A "community organizer" hmmmm.

P.S. and when will President Obama be going over to Sweden to accept his "Nobel Peace Prize", anyone know?

How many people has Obama liberated?

How many is he going to?

W liberated 50 million in Iraq and Afghanistan, while Ronald Reagan liberated all of the former Soviet "satellite states".

Maybe they can pay for the carving, as grateful as they are.

Thing is that Reagan was the most popular president in recent memory.
He won in 1984 by a *Landslide victory! *I think only Massachusetts voted for the other guy whoever that was!
Noone has even come close to that since then!

I think it would be hard to carve Obama's ears out of a big rock.

Harder yet to carve them out of a little one, if you stop to think about it.

Wasn't Theodore Roosevelt responsible for bringing the US out of the Great Depression in the '30's? Or was that Franklin? I get the two mixed up :S

Neither. Theodore was before the Great Depression. Franklin was trying to bring us out of it but only made it worse until WW2 came along and bailed his ass out.

Ahh, ok. I was gonna say - if it was Teddy that brought the country out of the Depression, then I can understand why they put him on Mt. Rushmore - afaik, all the featured presidents brought something to the table with regards to our country developing:

Washington - First president
Lincoln - Emancipation Proclaimation
Jefferson - Primary author of the Declaration of Independance

But I'm at a loss as to Theodore Roosevelt..

And some other popular figures of the 20th century are - Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Godzilla..

But it is unfair to compare - they were better actors.

He was nominated several years running, but always lost the Jap vote. Go figure.

Ahh.

If anything, I think JFK should be the next president, NOT Obama.
