Today, I surpassed a mini-goal & I'm so freakin excited I can't sit still!!!  I am just under 250 lbs!!!!!  Pardon my excessive use of exclamation points, but this is amazing to me.  I have now lost 32 lbs since the Dr diagnosed me as old, fat & out of shape in August!!!  I am now being asked how I did this & that's really new for me.  It's usually the other way around, I'm asking someone else how they successfully lost weight.  My big huge weight loss secret is this:  I stopped eating so much & started moving more.  Wait, maybe I shouldn't have just blurted that out for all the world to see.  I shoulda held back & charged for the info, huh?  But I'm a giver, so I can't help letting you all in on my big secret.

eta:  I'm really freakin hungry right now.  Can someone pass the bacon???

use the right glycemic, say----- the brown and wild rice or like that.

one serving only. not the fuckin box. it is ok to sorta cheat, so long as you do it rarely.

better than fucking up your whole life and or diet goals forever.

Thank you, Ron.  I followed your advice to the letter.  Well, kinda.  I RAN downstairs, grabbed the bag of 18g whole grain tortilla chips & shoved half a dozen in my mouth.  Then I remembered that I could slather them with hummus.  I'm sure I didn't eat more than 2 servings.  *sigh*  And then I RAN back upstairs.  I'm sure the stair running negates whatever bad I did, right???

running up and down stairs good, gorging bad...

If you got a hankering for carbs like that.........

slowly, and sensually eat each chip and close your eyes and feel and taste everything about it, let it linger and and ponder that which you felt and tasted between each one, should take you anywhere from 12 minutes to a half hour to eat those six chips, do it like it is the last sex you are gonna have with them chips for a month.

I feel like I need a cigarette after that.  And I don't even smoke!!!

ETA:
I'm really stressed.  I started a new job, caring for an elderly woman with multiple medical problems.  I was supposed to get 2 weeks' training, but during this time, the daughter has left me alone with her multiple times.  She was up half the night hallucinating, which the daughter & son-in-law didn't hear, so I was up half the night with her.  Today, the daughter left for the entire day for appts.  I don't have any medical training & I feel like I'm only getting half the story, then being told I'm wrong when I don't do it right.  So I'm frustrated too.  This is my first binge in forever.  And it was a minor one.  I didn't even binge over the holidays.

I'm living with these people who keep Kosher.  Have you ever seen how they eat on Friday night & Saturday???  It's like Thanksgiving & Christmas every freakin weekend.  But I'm only taking small amounts of each thing.  It would be easier if they cooked badly.  LOL

On the plus side, I lost another 3 lbs this week.  I actually think that I'm probably not eating enough.  Hence the craving for carbs.

I use a small salad bowl to put my Pringles in and slowly snack on them that way. Keeping that tube away from me is helpful.

Linn,

Just remember, have sex with your food, slow and sensual and filthy. My grandfather had alzheimers and lived at home with us, and would hallucinate, usually it helped to entice them to tell stories from their way gone youth, and they would sort of go into reverie and then as they told tale after tale come out of it as if from a dream, sorta like what dreams may come, without drugs.

I want carbs too. I was craving a cake all of last night before we fixed the satellite problem. Maybe an Ace of cakes withdrawal...LOL!

So far, I am down to one diet soda a day. I am on decongestants for this URI so I am dry all of the time and keep a glass of water beside me. Yesterday I was in the middle of a "friendly dispute" with Office Depot about crediting my CC for the lack of a computer and my glass was close to empty. Mom got up and fill my glass for me without me asking her to do it. When my throat gets dry, I sound really hoarse. Not goods when having a discussion about money (which I need on the 20th for yet another extraction).

Watched "the other Boleyn girl" last night, which I did buy from Office Depot on Christmas eve. I am into movies like that and it was cool watching Natalie Portman playing the entire personality changes of Anne. I think it was her best work ever.

If things look right, I will be back to exercising. I miss my workouts and though there has been no weightloss, I can feel the muscles firming up. My back lets me know when it is time to go in (the recovery pads stand up to me..LOL!)

Hi all, GREAT work Linnaea!! Keep it up. As Ron says, if you are craving having A SMALL bit will help, but also just so people know L-Glutamine is said to help with sugar cravings. Shahar, i have soo got to get on that water bandwagon!

A friend and i were speaking about low carb cooking this morning and i gave her two sites of recipes i thought i would share:

I rarely crave sugar or sweet things of any kind.  My cravings lean toward potatoes & bread & that sort of thing.  I haven't been giving in to the cravings, but I do have a little carb at each meal.  I have my cereal in the morning, a wrap thingie at lunch & usually some potatoes or such with dinner.  I used to like to eat 5-6 smaller meals each day, but with this job it's too hard to schedule that.  Granny eats 3 meals so I just eat around the same time.

I'm having some mouth pain right now, so I had to let my cereal sit in the yogurt to soften it this am.  Soft foods for a couple of days & I should be ok.

Linn, I know this is a little late, but congratulations! (I've been spending a lot less time on the computer, of late...)

In terms of the carbs... it's been COLD here (like most of the country!), but here in Houston, we just don't -get- temperatures in the teens and '20s, and what I wanted this morning was HOT CEREAL... now, I don't eat grains, and some of you have seen me after a few days of carb-loading, so you know -why-... but that hot bowl of oatmeal was calling my name... On top of that, everyone else in our household but me is SICK SICK SICK. It's passing me by, so far, and that was enough to give me a little corner of rational thought to work from. I suspect that I'm healthy and they're sick because I haven't been slowly poisoning my body for the past several months -- just the occasional times I slip off the wagon leaves me feeling run down for days, so I have been pretty good about not torturing myself that way... so... with that in mind, I created THIS -- it completely satisfied the hunger for hot cereal, and was soooo tasty even I was surprised!

2 organic medjool dates
2 dried apricots
1/4 cup dried mixed raisins
1/4 cup dried sour cherries
1/2 cup cashews
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup pecans
1/4 cup shelled hemp seed
2 tablespoons dehydrated palm syrup OR 2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 cup nut milk (I like hazelnut milk for this!)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon freshly-grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated ginger

Combine nuts and fruit in the bowl of your food processor and chop until very fine. Some chunks are ok, and add interesting texture, but it's important to get most of the ingredients down to a fine meal. Pour into a small saucepan. Add hempseed, sweetener, nut milk, and spices. Cook over low to medium-low heat until mixture comes to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to stand for about 2-3 minutes, then serve. This makes about 3 servings (a serving is about 1/2 cup and VERY filling).

This is amazingly tasty, and leftovers keep for a few days in the fridge (I'm thinking about making some up on the weekends and taking the leftovers with me to work a couple of days during the week).

If one is very active and doesn't get enough staying power from just the above, my son says that his serving lasted him longer if he added 1/4 cup of half-and-half, like pouring milk over cereal when serving it. He said that, with that, the 1/2 cup serving lasted him over 4 hours before he was -really- hungry again, and that with working outside helping his dad clear gutters. For me, the 1/2 cup serving is actually a little -too- much... 1/3 cup lasts me about 3 hours before I get hunger signals again, which is just about right.

Anyway -- I hope this helps folks who are struggling with nostalgia and/or carb cravings in these cold days.

Calla
