That does sound good, Calla.  Thanks for the recipe.  Today I fixed Granny some veggies with egg whites & cheese.  Then I fixed myself some veggies with potatoes & 2 whole eggs & a little cheese.  It was sooooooo fuckin good!!!!!  I cooked it in a little olive oil.  These people eat lots of leftovers & sometimes I throw stuff out when they're not looking because it's just too old or overcooked.  For some reason, the man of the house gets the organic eggs & I have to eat the yucky ones that I don't even want to think what they were fed or how they were treated.  Ugh!!!  Ah well...tis free food.  Down the road, I may end up having to buy my own so that I can eat more healthy things.

I rarely crave sugar or sweet things of any kind.  My cravings lean toward potatoes & bread & that sort of thing.  I haven't been giving in to the cravings, but I do have a little carb at each meal.  I have my cereal in the morning, a wrap thingie at lunch & usually some potatoes or such with dinner.  I used to like to eat 5-6 smaller meals each day, but with this job it's too hard to schedule that.  Granny eats 3 meals so I just eat around the same time.

I'm having some mouth pain right now, so I had to let my cereal sit in the yogurt to soften it this am.  Soft foods for a couple of days & I should be ok.

My Sir has Type 2 diabbetes so it is crucial that he limits his carb intake and he loves this recipe. I am getting really good at figuring out how to prepare delicous meals without his feeling unsatisfied. He has lost 30 pounds in 5 months since I have been cooking for me, his Doctor was so pleased! . So anyway, here it is.

Better Fake Mashed Potatoes
Serves:10 **So halve it for you, plus it freezes well, really.

CarbsPerServing: 6 total recipe

Effort:Easy

Ingredients:

1 head cauliflower

4 to 6 tablespoons butter *depends on you, I use olive oil

1 teaspoon pepper — up to

1 tablespoon

How to Prepare:

Cook 1 head of cauliflower until very soft. MASH all the water out of it through a screen mesh colander (If you skip this step you get cauliflower soup).. Add butter and considerable pepper (min 1 teaspoon up to a tablespoon - careful it goes from perfect to HOT very fast). Whip with mixer or in food processor, re-heat if necessary. I have served this at parties and no one has known they were not real.

I also add things like garlic, etc. to liven it up if you I want to.

Also, awesome idea on using wraps instead of bread. For Sir, I make him a lot of wraps, and I try and use the spinach ones, or tomato ones, they are better for you. I also stuff the hell out of them with things like chicken, and tons of different textures, like chickpeas, sprouts, and instead of mayo, which he loves, I have been cutting his mayo in half with non fat vanilla yogurt with a squeeze of lemon and lots of pepper. There is also a bread out there, I am not going to lie, it's not delicous, but it's okay, it's called Ezekiel bread, it's better than nothing. It's like a raw unleavened bread, a lot of health food store have it.

But anyway, try the cauliflower mashed, those rock, and congrats on the great work!!!!!

You are sneaky, Aynne!!  I love that in a person.   The cauliflower sounds really good too.  I have to give Granny certain foods & she's not really great at eating some veggies.  She's also diabetic.

I just weighed myself & I'm down 3.5 more lbs to 246.5!!!!!  That's a total of 35.5 lbs since August.  I can't hardly believe this.  I had to weigh myself again because I thought that I must have done it wrong.  I have struggled with my weight for so many years & this is now so easy.  The lady of the house keeps telling me to consolidate trips up & down the stairs, but I told her that people pay good money to use stair machines!  So I go up & down as much as I can.  I'm really farkin tired at night, but that just makes it easier to go to sleep early & get enough sleep before time to wake Granny again.

WTG Linn! I have fallen back on my dieting due to the upper respiratory infection I had but today I ate my last honeybun. I tackle bad habits one month at a time. I have cut my diet soda intake to one a day and hopefully soon that will be further reduced. I still like my Pringles but I am willing to forgo them for a healthier diet (I need grazing foods).

Doctor is after me to reduce my salt intake. I use pringles as my salt. Cannot stand putting salt on my foods at all.

Today I will be back at Curves after taking a week off to get this infection out of my system. I actually miss my workouts. Mom is noticing that some of her clothes are fitting her better now (am glad I 'forced' her to join up). We are discussing going 5 or 6 days a week to build up the muscles (lose more fat).

For me, the real key has been moving more.  I don't go to a gym to workout.  I work out all day long, up & down stairs, bending, walking around the house, etc.  There are so many things that you can do that don't require going to a gym.

If you are supposed to decrease your sodium intake & you say that you don't salt your foods, you might want to check to see how much sodium is in the foods that you eat.  Even veggies & milk have sodium.

Hooray on the diet soda cutback!!

Linnaea, Seriously your doing this without a gym is utterly facinating to me.  I have a gym membership in fact had 2 at a time for a short period AND a personal trainer and kaput -- not very good in fact just the opposite of getting in shape and a whole hell of a lot of money wasted -- in the course of a year, close to $2400.  Simply because i didn't make the decision and sort was all haphazard and half assed in doing it.

You show determination and decision making which is admireable.   Kudos to you and keep up the great work.

Thanks so much, angel.  I can't believe this is going so well, myself!  I have tried sooooo many times over the last 15 years to lose this weight.  I've been on nearly every diet program out there.  I've joined gyms several times.  I had a personal trainer for awhile also.  I started slowly, by cutting unnecessary fats out of my diet.  I used to eat a lot of cheese; bacon & I were best friends.  Did you know that they serve plain hamburgers???  No cheese, no bacon, no guac, no sauteed shrooms.  And they're tasty!!  Now that I'm eating kosher, that seems to be working better than even before.

Linn,

I decided this morning to ditch my gym membership. I realized that all of the stuff I've been doing in the gym (now that I can't swim because I have continuous new tattoo work that can't be submerged--and will continue to have such until June-ish), I can do on my own for FREE -- walking on the treadmill??? I can go out and take a walk outside for the same amount of time... up hills, down hills... got it... Stairclimber? I work on the 12th floor... I think I have plenty of stairs to climb. *LOL* I'm also discovering "weight training" using -me- as the weights... planks are bloody HARD. Harder than a weight machine!!! (And the extra $50 bucks a month in my savings towards the move... priceless!)

I have a  ton more recipes like that, if you don't mind I will send them on the other side, I am SOOOO proud of you!!! > You are doing a fantastic job, and it is hard, I know this. Good job Linnea! xoxo!

Good for you, Calla.  I think gym memberships work well sometimes when one needs the extra discipline of the act of getting up & going there on a regular basis.  Also for people who work from before dawn til after dusk & can't get out for walks.  Right now, I would love to have a little downtime & just sit on mah butt again for a bit.  LOL

I love low carb recipes -- yeah i know i can't cook lol but i love recipes.  So if you have sites and recipes and such, feel free to send them to me cmail, i will reciprocate if you wish.

One of my favories cause its quick and easy are chicken muffins:
12 ounce can chicken, drained and flaked ( I boil a chicken breast instead of useing the can chicken )
2 eggs ( can use egg subs )
1/4 cup celery, minced, 1 small stalk
1 teaspoon dry minced onion
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon chicken seasoning *
2 tablespoons pimiento, minced, optional
2 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded

Mix all ingredients well in a medium bowl. Spoon into 6 well-greased
muffin cups. Bake at 350º 30-35 minutes, until set and lightly browned.

Makes 6 muffins
Can be frozen

* Or use 1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning and 1/4 teaspoon salt

Per Muffin: 160 Calories; 9g Fat; 17g Protein; 1g
Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 1g Net Carbs
Per 2 Muffins: 319 Calories; 19g Fat; 34g Protein;
2g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 2g Net carbs

You can do so much with these, you can add bacon bits or veggies.  Or even use any type of shredded meat like ham.  or spices.

I like the original recipe without the celery or the pimento thing and with a dolp of sour cream.  They are good with a broc and cauliflower bits also.  And you can easily double the recipe and make 12 muffins in a 12 muffin tin thingy.

They are easy and quick for a snack also - heat for a minute and done.

Ok, I feel stupid, but I have to ask...

Does anyone know a good way to lose inches as opposed to pounds?  I only weigh 125 but I need to lose at least 6 inches from my stomach.  Ten would be better.  (It's that lovely Mommy pouch. )  Part of my problem is that I can't do regular sit-ups or crunches because of an old injury to my tailbone.  I can't put any pressure on it at all.  All the work out sites and videos want me to do sit ups, crunches, or some other variation of sitting or laying on my tailbone while lifting my legs and/or upper body.  Not. Gonna. Happen.

Suggestions?

That is a tough one.  I know this is going to sound cliche` but i would ask your doctor who knows the issue with your tailbone.   However, just off the top of my head for you to think about have you tried a ball that will cushion it?  Also, planks help your core, though i hate them lol.   You need to tighten your core  for that to go down i believe.  Have you searched for standing core exercises?  Or if you have access to a pull, core exercises for the pool?  Also be sure to make sure you are also strengthening your lower back.  Many people don't realize just how much strengthening your lower back helps with your abs.

If you have insurance, make an appt with a sports doctor to look at your tailbone again.  Then while in the appointment tell him what you are trying to do and see what he suggests.

http://www.ab-core-and-stomach-exercises.com/standing-abdominal-exercises.html

That's just a quick thought.   If you are part of a gym, you would probably talk to the wellness place or a trainer and explain the issue and ask someone to show you some (even as a consult).

Thanks for that site, angel.  My lady went to the hospital a little bit ago, but this doesn't mean I get to loll around, fortunately.  The previous caregiver had things in such a mess that I will be spending several hours getting granny's room into order: organizing her clothing & medical supplies.  Once I'm finished there, I get to come into my room & unpack & organize it.  The lady of the house has had a back pain for the last several days & I've been doing her bending for her.  It's been helping me a lot with squats, etc.  I don't need to go to a gym as long as I work for her!!

My situation is likely unique. As part of my job i am required to sample at least 7 food items for quality per shift. Suddenly, it hit me like  Taste does not mean i must swallow. The guys will cringe to read this, but i've learned to "spit"

Also, because of my extreme blood pressure and diabetes issues the doctor has given me diet pills. The 4 pounds i lost last month was without the pills though

I've cracked my tailbone twice.  Something didn't heal exactly right, so things like sit-ups and crunches are painful.  I can do standing exercises or ones where I lay on my stomach and lift my legs, but pressure on my tailbone is BAD.  My husband's insurance hasn't gone into effect yet, but there isn't much to be done about a tailbone injury.

I have those HipHop Abs DVDs, which are mostly standing exercises, but I'm not in good enough shape to do them.  How sad is that?  LOL.  I'll try a ball.  I don't have one and I've been looking for a way to justify spending the money.  (Same goes for getting a Wii Fit, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.)  Thanks for the URL, that's going in my bookmarks.

Yeeeaaah, not so much.  I've been trying to con my parents out of the treadmill they never use, but until I do, walking will have to wait for spring.

There are times during the day that I just walk around & around the house.  Inside, mind you.  The scenery's fairly boring, but not nearly as boring as on a treadmill, I would think.  And it does get the heart pumping.  The biggest thing I am learning to do this time around with my weight loss is to think outside the box.  That's why I love this thread!!
