I can read a book or watch a movie on a treadmill.  Boredom gone.  Pacing up and down my 7 foot hallway -- I'd die from boredom before I lost any weight.  I can also set the resistance higher or lower on a treadmill depending on how hard I want to work.  I got my parents to let me have their old Health Rider; I'm crossing my fingers for the treadmill too.

The house I'm living in has one of those floor plans where you can actually walk around, living room, hallway, kitchen, dining room, living room.  I kinda got started by walking with the 98-yr-old lady I'm taking care of.  The first day that she wasn't here to walk with, I found myself walking around by myself.  I can go considerably faster without her.  LOL

grins, you can get one of those balls for like under 30 bucks.

Must be nice.  My house...well, Small House is small.  There's a small park at the end of the block that has a walking path.  I just have moral objections to piling on 4 layers of clothes and trudging through a foot of snow for the sake of my vanity.  [;)]

Actually, walking is great for your waistline.

Yeeeaaah, not so much.  I've been trying to con my parents out of the treadmill they never use, but until I do, walking will have to wait for spring.

Mama taught me that exercise is exercise...walking is walking. She has a very small home and has about 8 feet she paces back and forth in while watching tv. 8 feet forward, turn around, 8 feet, turn around. She'll go through a whole 30 min program doing this (or more) daily. Come on. Be creative!

Ok, I feel stupid, but I have to ask...

Does anyone know a good way to lose inches as opposed to pounds?  I only weigh 125 but I need to lose at least 6 inches from my stomach.  Ten would be better.  (It's that lovely Mommy pouch. [:'(])  Part of my problem is that I can't do regular sit-ups or crunches because of an old injury to my tailbone.  I can't put any pressure on it at all.  All the work out sites and videos want me to do sit ups, crunches, or some other variation of sitting or laying on my tailbone while lifting my legs and/or upper body.  Not. Gonna. Happen.

Suggestions?

Have you considered using an exercise ball? I fractured my tailbone and hip in a motorcycle accident, and, like you, can't put any pressure on my tailbone. I use an inflatable exercise ball (I got mine from Gaiam.com, and got the exercise ball chair as well) and do my crunches, leg lifts, etc., on that. It also allows me a much greater range of motion than doing them flat on the floor does.

That being said, my trainer also recommended swimming and other core-strengthening activities as a way to tone up the belly region. He said that sit-ups and crunches really don't do as much for the belly as people tend to think they do. He has me doing the following exercises to strengthen my core, which he says will tighten the belly and provide good support for the internal organs and spine as well.

1. Walking lunges, 6 steps up, 6 steps back. 2. Floor mountain climbers, 30 seconds. 3. Lunge jumps, 6 reps per side. 4. Floor lying leg thrusts, 12 reps. 5. Squat jumps, 8 reps. 6. Side plank hold, hold for 30 secs. 7. Clapping pushups, 10 reps (I still do these against a wall -- can't do them on the floor yet). 8. Squats, using just your own bodyweight complete 12 reps.

Baby, it's not for the sake of your vanity -- it's for the sake of a strong, healthy body. I hear you on the layers of clothing. I ride a motorbike year round, so there are days when I -dread- the 4:30 am wakeup, the piling on of layers upon layers of clothing, and the feeling of being a sta-puff marshmallow woman on my way out to my bike -- but once I'm on the road, that all changes, and the euphoria and freedom kick in. It's the same with exercise, for me -- that first 10 minutes is a BITCH (pardonnez mon français) but then, the feeling of success starts kicking in, and the second wind hits, and the rest of the workout, until right before the end, I really feel like I'm getting there. I know I'm done for the day when the pain creeps back up over the endorphins... but you know what... I -love- that 'rubbery leg' feeling I get when I've walked a long way and then it's over, and I'm not sure my legs can -do- any more, but I still have to get up the stairs to my apartment before I can quit. That last few stairs... WOW... and reaching the top landing... priceless!

That's with a 2.5 mile run.

Dont suppose you have a bit of room for a late-comer from the UK??

xxblushesxx -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (1/16/2010 8:58:50 AM)

There's plenty of room here with all the weight that's been dropping!

I've been swimming an hour a day about four days a week, and treadmill on two of the others. I'm also doing some excercises to slim my calves. I stand on a step, raise myself up on my tippytoes...hold it...then lower myself as far as I can, then repeat. I do that whenever I get near the steps. A few reps each time.

BoundDragon -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (1/16/2010 9:11:16 AM)

Thank you very much & here goes then....

I am 159.8lbs but only 5ft which means quite a bit of my weight is in tummy podge which I am dying to lose and tone up.
I am supposed to be about 123lbs for my ideal weight so would like to lose 35lbs in total... seems like a big ask but I want it so bad.

I have started using a really great website which teaches you how to do a certain type of dancing which I hope will tone me up, I hope to do a minimum of 30mins a day which will increase to 45mins as I get used to it.

My reason for posting this up means I am commited and gives me more reason to keep going.

Hey! I wanna join!  This is great. I just started reporting my weight daily in my journal. I am so glad this is here. Are there any rules. At almost 500 posts I may be missing important info. Any triumphs to report so far?

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The CollarMe "Biggest Loser" Gang WANTS YOU!!1! (1/16/2010 1:29:28 PM)
