Skim milk is definitely an acquired taste, Shar! It took me awhile to get used to it but now that's the only milk I'll drink, the regular & lowfat (1-2%) is toooo rich for me now.

Have you tried fat free/or low fat chocolate cookies (Snack Well's or Entenmann's), fat free frozen yogurt?

As long as the weather is dry go for it! Don't let the cold weather hold you back, you'll warm up soon enough

I warmed up just fine at Curves today.  Mom thought that I busted a vein in my face...I was just working hard on the machines.

Lol, a bit red in the face were you?
I forgot you joined Curves, are you enjoying the gym?  Do you feel like you're getting a good workout or do you feel the need for more at the end of the session?

I do 2 circuits on the machines every other day.  Weatherwise, we have been getting rained on about 2 or 3 days apart to where the inner driveway is boggy.  Mom is thinking of getting pea gravel out to fortify it.  Every time I step into it, I sink...ever with rubber boots on.

One good thing...our daffoils are sprouting!

Normal day would be: cup of coffee, cereal w/ milk, veggies for snacks, some more coffee, some rice with salmon, more veggies or fruit, dinner - some sort of pasta/rice with meat, a glass of wine, and perhaps some popcorn with salt for TV snack in the evening. Normally I average about 2000-2300 calories per day.

What did you do today to help you toward that goal, Lin?

I've kinda lost sight of the goal, Potts.  Thanks for poking me about it.  Today I'm sorta snowed in at least for the early part of the day.  What I will try to do is walk more around the nursing home while Granny's sitting.  Walking with her is too slow to be called exercise for me.  Too bad I can't use the machines in the PT area for myself, but it's only for the patients.

You know walking in snow is a good work out. Its sorta like walking in sand. Just be sure to wear some good hiking type boots and good socks and layers that you can take off and on and hike through the snow. You will also be working on your core as you will be using it to keep your balance etc.

I think I overdid it last night at the gym....almost 2 hrs of straight working out. I tried to take it easy on the upper body since I was working last night & had to do some lifting but the Eliptical works the arms too so they're quite sore this AM. Got alot accomplished & will go again tonight. I'm so glad I joined this gym! I've gotten into the habit of eating boiled brown rice & veggies afterwards, tho last night I did fry the zucchini for flavor but I did it in fat free no stick spray, added some balsamic vinegar and had myself a tasty meal! I buy the boil in a pouch rice to regulate my intake 'cuz if I cook it I'll eat too much & there goes the workout! I've been resisting the temptation to hop on the scale until Sun.

Walking in the snow IS a great workout, too bad your boots are so far away, Lin.

I was just giving some ideas based upon something you said,  whether you can or can't do it is up to you and effects no one but you, but there is a lot of snow all over the place especially from the recent storms, so maybe my post will help someone see the snow in a different way.

Maybe you can have someone mail you your boots.

Many people use well its snowy or cold as an excuse not to exercise outside even when they have the equipment like boots and such, and in many ways they are missing a very cheap way of getting in some good workouts not only cardio but toning and core also due to using different parts of your body because you are trying to compensate for doing normal things like walking or running in the snow.

That doesn't sound too bad but let's get more specific.
Do you use skim milk or whole milk in your cereal?
Are you veggies plain or w/butter?  What about your rice?
Pasta AND rice together? What type of sauce on the pasta?
Salt on the popcorn......butter too?

You might want to try half a glass of wine, or cut it out all together & drink watter. I don't see water anywhere in your intake & a person needs at least a gallon a day (not all at once, but throughout the day)

I had to go to the doctor yesterday (not for my weigh-in, that's next week) but she weighed me and I couldn't help but notice I've lost 2 pounds already this month.  That brings me up to -23 since mid-October!  yay me!

You rock, Sophie!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, since I'm not going to the nursing home, I had thought I was going to have a day off & chill.  But then Joan told me that Harry's Parkinson's is starting to really affect him & he's unable to put things together, like the bookcase & the ceiling fan.  He's also admitted that his balance is affected now.  So I volunteered to put the bookcase together.  This will be better than lifting weights since it weighs at least 450 lbs.    Also, it's down in the basement & my room is on the 2nd floor, so lots of stair walking just because they're here to use.

I've rarely used weather as an excuse to not get outside & get moving.  I love to walk & I love the snow.  When I was in Wyoming & it was -9 degrees, I balked at walking very far!!  Since I've been here, we walk every Friday night & Saturday lunch.  The places we go are at least a mile away.  We don't not go there due to the weather.  Some of the walks have been fairly nippy, lemme tell ya!!

Oh, & you rock too, Pottsie.
