You get over 2000 calories from what you mentioned above? How much do you eat?
Do you eat heaping plateful's of pasta/or rice?
Remember that veggies have sugar in them too so read the package before consuming.

Try wholewheat pasta, brown rice, fat free butter if you absolutely have to have butter, skim milk. Also include tuna fish, egg whites (no yolk), almonds, cottage cheese when you start exercising.
Eat 5-6 small meals instead of 3 large meals w/snacks in between.

After really looking at my dieat i realized that i am a snacker... always hungry so i am always picking on food and i don't even realize it. Which means that i never stop eating. Looking at what i eat, i eat good things... it's just i never stop snacking on stuff even if it is veggies, plain rice, popcorn. At the end of the day i have eating too much and i haven't given my poor stomach a chance to digest anything properly ... i think in there lies my problem.

Am going to set up and plan my meals, and stick to it... 5-6 small meals per day and more water.
Thinking about getting a bike too for some non impact cardio.... there just aren't any pools around here that i would be willing to jump in. Thank you guys for all the great ideas and hint. Reading the posts and feedbacks here are really inspirational. To all of you that have lost weight CONGRATULATION and hopefully soon i will be one of you.

Joan kept trying to buy me "junk food" to tide me over while I'm here.

Hi Linea,

I feel your pain lol when people want to give you food you shouldn't be eating.  I am sure she knows you are attempting to lose weight and get in shape, so if she is trying to buy you junk food, be honest with her and say, you know i really don't want you wasting your money buying me stuff i shouldn't be eating but feel i must because of your kindness.  While i don't need you to buy me anything, if you are going to anyway, here are some ideas of what i can eat and DO enjoy and will enjoy even more as the scale tells me i am doing well.

I know its ackward but the problem but a huge part many people losing weight have to learn to do is how to handle such situations, its NOT easy and many times people find themselves failing their plan because of guilt because of the kindness of others lol.

Good luck cause it ain't easy dealin with a giver!

Here's a new discussion i hope linea won't mind me using her issue as a jumping off point.

What do you do when you have someone who doesn't understand what you are doing and always wants to give you things you shouldn't have?

Perhaps this discussion could be along the lines of ideas, experiences implementing such ideas, and roadblocks and such you have had in such situations.

This to me is something so many people who are trying to change their lifestyle deal with, habits you have had and are trying to break are habits that others also have as habit in interacting with you.  So how do you change others habits in interacting with you now that you are making new habits?

How's that for a tongue twister.

Thanks VP

I wish I had some amazingly wonderful trick I could share but it really comes down to taking in less calories than you expend.  The calories I do take in aren't wasted on crap...goodies(I allow a treat now and then all while keeping in mind portion size and how it fits into my plan), starch, "white" stuff...but instead lots of real food.  Like I said in the thread about dishes everyone should be know...the more I cook the more I like simple food.
You mentioned earlier about processed vs "natural" foods.  I have to laugh when I see the word "natural" used to advertise something...arsenic is natural .  I think the less you do to a food, the better...closer to it's natural state.

I was able to get some venison from a friend recently and fortunately there were lots of very lean cuts in my bundle.  He also gave me a little treat...venison pate....which I'm taking my time enjoying (I'm one of the wackos that like liver).  I've always been very into food and try to source as much as I can from local producers/farmers/friends/hunters, now I'm even more aware of how the food I choose to eat affects my body.  I'm diabetic and for me this has less to do with looks and more to do with health.  My goal is to lose 50lbs and get off my meds.  I know I can do this.

As for exercise....I try to do a minium of 40mins. on the eliptical and 15-20 with weights and then some stretching.  I've been fortunate to find a personal trainer who has a medical/chiropractic background and is able to take my limitations in to account and focus on the best exercises that will give optium  results for cardio and strength.

Thanks for listening to this ramble and best of luck to everyone.

Hi Angel.

The reason that Joan is buying my food is because that's part of my pay.  And generally speaking she's pretty good at getting me what I ask for.  Just that she's Jewish & is worried that I will be missing Shabbos food while snowed in at the nursing home this weekend.  Another part of it is that she is diabetic & needs to lose a lot of weight herself, but struggles with her eating.  So if she buys me junk food, then she can feel ok with her eating whatever, I think.  The funny thing is that when I first came to work there, she talked so badly about the previous caregiver's junk food eating habits.  LOL  So I just keep telling her kindly but firmly that I don't eat those things.

One day we went for Kosher pizza for lunch.  It was disgustingly greasy.  bleccchhh!!!  That evening, her husband asked me how I enjoyed it & I replied that it was ok, but that I wasn't much for eating junk food.  He looked surprised & said, "You think that pizza is junk food???"  Duh, yeah!!  It's not exactly a balanced meal!!!

Thanks for sharing, CarrieO! Hopefully you'll keep us posted on your progress reaching your goal of losing 50lbs

Lin, you've got yourself a couple of real winners there

Ok, for my afternoon before workout snack I had celery w/peanut butter (2 T's), 14oz of Chocolate Muscle Milk & 1 banana. I feel better already!
Time for some H20 & vitamins.

I had an early lunch (11am) of 1 protein bar, 1 cup of yogurt, 1 apple & 5 peppermints.

Breakfast was coffee, cereal w/fruit (skim milk), 2 slices of 12 grain toast w/grape jelly.

Damn, writing all this out I feel like such a HOG!!

I used to do that ALL THE TIME w/my mother! Give her boxes of chocolates for gifts and I never really appreciated her hostility until I started working out regularly! lol

I think people do it when they feel inadequate & don't want you bettering yourself leaving them behind. The old "Misery loves company" philosophy!

Mom and I are experimenting with the Walmart version of Crystal Light.  It is cheaper by a dollar and has a small variety to select from.  I love the cherry (taste like KoolAid) and the pink lemonade (makes you pucker up).  I am also trying the orange early riser since Bo does not have any orange juice around here.  Mom likes the Kiwi Strawberry flavor.

Watch this...I get back home and all of my cherry lite-aid will be gone.

Just found this thread. Sounds good :)

diagnosed diabetic last May, told to reduce weight drastically, along with cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Began medication and lost 20lbs FAST. Since then, have been yoyo-ing a little (Xmas and a low period) but now down from 125kg to 115kg and about to begin back at the gym.

having regular "where's my belly gone?" moments, which is great!

Diet regime: nothing spectacular, I try and fill up for the day before 6pm so i don't have to eat again until morning, including no snacks, unless it's fruit or healthy stuff like cardboard crackers and lo-fat cheese (think edam, etc). No fizzy or sugary drinks and a good 30 mins mild exercise as often as poss.

I use public transport, so getting off a stop early is good. Also there's lots of nice walks hereabouts.

Good luck all, will be watching and updating as and when :)

It has the same fake sugar as the Crystal Lite does.  I wish that I could find water with just essence in it, no sugar either natural or man-made in it.
